I´ve also tested the closed version and it really sounds very different from the normal sundara. In general i had the feeling hifiman is better with open-back headphones rather than closed ones.
Definetly, if you never did that before I suggest looking on Reddit for "oratory1990" - there you often find good presets for different headphones that you could try out! :)
These either have massive unit variation or they changed them since release. The first one I heard was horrific. After 10 seconds I just laughed and had enough. A newer pair I tried recently was much better. Issues in every part of the FR still, but nothing horrendous. I wouldn't recommend these without EQ especially since Fiio FT1 exists, but I got a pair for 90€ for which these are pretty good.
No doubt, I have both of them. Ft1 is more 3d sound, almost perfect for a close can, it does sound as an open headphone, except for that bass that is very good although is elevated. Minus 3 - 4 db in the sub 100hz and would have been perfect
Thanks for the Review! :D
Nice work! The first batch I tried had terrible quality control too-good to know it’s improving.
Solid review! I’ve also noticed some big differences in tuning between units. Keep it up!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Hifiman’s open-back tuning is definitely a step ahead.
Good stuff! Keep it going!
Thanks for the insights! Do you feel the Sundara Closed has potential with EQ?

Good review! Have you tried pairing these with different amps?
Hi thanks! Yes I tried it with different amps -> Dongle DAC/AMP, Ifi Zen Stack, Chord Mojo 2, Burson Playmate 3
Good Review!

Really helpful! I’ve also felt Hifiman excels more with open-backs.
Great stuff! I had a similar experience with unit variation-super inconsistent.
Loved the review! Do you think the Fiio FT1 is a better choice at a similar price?
I heard a lot of good things about the FT1 - but I didn't test them myself yet
