Crickets are definitely the most annoying. They smell alot and they are escape artists. So i started using dubias a few years ago and never looked back. Dubias are definitely the best feeder option for tarantulas
I was indifferent to mildly annoyed with crickets before I got my tarantulas. Now I absolutely cannot stand them. The smell, the noise, how quickly they die, the escapes, just maddening creatures to deal with. I also found out that I'm allergic to them. I was getting hives on my hands on feeding days and thought it was a sensitivity to urticating hairs until there were a couple of times I hadn't even gone near my enclosures yet but my hand had touched the inside of the cricket bag while I was reaching in with tongs. Since then I've been extremely careful around crickets and haven't had any more issues. Bonus I also found out I'm not sensitive to the urticating hairs when my G pulchripes was in cranky pre-molt and had some real feelings about my trying to clean his water dish. I will say the only tarantula thing that icks me is the molts. I don't know why but picking up the papery disintegrating mangled molts gives me the willies.
Dubias are by far the least gross and annoying of the food options! I hate hate hate hate HATE crickets but I usually keep some smaller ones on hand for the slings and for my leopard gecko. I keep my dubias in with my powder blue isopod colony which seems to work really well and is less gross to me than having a dirtless bin of roaches! 😝
G/M Patricia. Another fine video on this hot and steamy Tuesday. Thanks for the info. on the super worms. I do keep a small amount of crickets. I have found clearing the dead out as soon as possible cuts down on the odors. I also keep springtails and isopods. Both enjoy the crickets. If my critters don’t eat right away I pull whatever I’ve offered. With their feeding schedule I’ve been pretty lucky. Stay cool, see you in a week.

So interesting! I never had that reaction to molts but I get it, it is kind weird. Yes the crickets are horrid!
Have you ever tried shrimp? My 3 spiders LUUHV it!!
Omg I never have! That is so interesting. I have to look into that.
I cleaned Koppe's cage on the inside, yesterday. I find the poop really gross!😖
But she IS a hungry girl, and what comes in, must go out.😂
How is she?!

Thanks for the info about isopods. That's something I need to learn more about!
Do you ever make videos without yourself always sitting down ?
She sits behind the enclosure so the focus can be on Spidey in front of her
It’s her show. If she wants to sit she sits. The content is the important part.

Maybe it's been the stores I have gotten the crickets at bc I noticed that they just SMELL even out of the bag when there are no dead ones.
