  • There is a push to ban children under the age of 16 from being allowed on social media, as the government announces a $6.5 million age verification trial.
Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli has co-founded 36 Months, a campaign calling on the social media age to be raised to 16, and he joins us.

As you socially isolate children from their peer groups, their psychological health will collapse.
This is going to be disasterous.

Your comment is absolutely ridiculous..how the hell did we all get along before society media...
13 how to take a 100 selfies of oneself or how to filter your face at 13 this is what most kids do on instragam and Facebook...and if you think other wise you must be very uneducated for an adult
Communication skills and thinking for oneself
And being able 2 actually proud of who you are and not be influenced by others is healthy. ..in my opinion....

@user-gx8by7vv7m I've consumed entire human behavioral research journals.
You are some random ego on the internet who thinks they are a God. You're the reason for poor psychological health in children.
The reason 63% of children in Australia are neglected or abused.
      Your ego.
      You.

If internet providers can turn you off if you don’t pay them then surly they can adjust the times available.

Simple Fines and exposure, this is fundamentally our children’s future, lazy parenting is the problem as it’s easy to let them indulge themselves than to spend quality time playing sport and other outside activities.

I'm sorry this is just not going to work even when I was 10 years old making a MySpace account just change the DOB and two factor authentication will not work, if a kid has a phone then that kid probably got a phone number to unless you're gonna make it so you have to put in a driver's licence or 18 plus card it will not work and no way would I hand that information over

Forget about threats, it’s the addiction of the whole phone and social media thing. I personally know of families being torn apart because of this scourge. My solution is all children who get a phone or iPad get a plan that allows internet connection between 8am-8pm it then turns off internet access and only allows phone calls. It’s not threats it’s the constant scrolling through the internet that’s the problem. Children need sleep to develop their brains not social media.

It won’t work because it can’t be policed, but it would certainly decrease some of the youth crime as it would give them less incentive to film themselves stealing cars & stranger bullying. Won’t stop the bullies that they know though unfortunately.

It's just a trojan horse for the digital ID they want to introduce.

Social Media companies can simply rectify this but don't want to. It can be done with algorithms that reverse the current status quo, but current algorithms benefit from this conduct that needs to be controlled.

RATE THE AGE TO 21 YEARS OLD. Not under 16 yrs this is not good enough.
