Usman is also the smaller guy in his fight, but moving up in weight isn't as bad for him, since he's already big at 170, and older, so less of a weight cut might be good. He's old though and has bad knees and possibly now a questionable chin. Taking the fight on short notice. Both fighting in enemy territory, short notice, after traveling. It would be a big upset. If they both had full camps I'd favor them to win. You can't favor them now, but they still can.

Their plan will be the same for almost every fight. Get a takedown in the first and the second round, take the explosiveness out of the opponent, wear them down without threatening with submissions, then look for the finish in the 3rd or 4th round. Standard unfortunately

I know this is easy to say after the fact, but i remember the build up to his first fight with Max and I was struck by his AUTHENTIC confidence. He wasn't just talking himself up, he was eerily certain of himself. I think he's among the most mentally tough fighters ive seen in a decade of warching this sport.

The dehydration in first fight made knight and day difference. The second fight even the Thai clinch Islam had such control in that landing knees and elbows and had volk on that backfoot. He also knocked him out, I think volk is great but Islam is on a complete other level of great, as proven.

I don’t get how people argue Volk has nothing to loose. He would have gotten the title shot at light weight. He could have waited, prepared fully and gone for the double champ. If he looses, he won’t get that title shot again, has one more loss on his record. Volk is putting him legacy on the line. Islam is getting the easier version of the rematch that was about to happen anyway.
As good as the rematch will be and a good fight indeed.But Islam will definitely finished him and it's not gonna go to a decision...So volk himself says he confidence and ready to fight the rematch. When Islam defeats him again, please don't give any excuses or reasons and IV accusations too.
his big advantage showed up in the last fight was his cardio in the last two rounds. Islam was onviously very exhausted and close to be finished at the end. The bell saved him. This time Alex could not do the cardio stuff on toplevel for about another 3-4 weeks.
While The Incredible Volk lost the first fight, he won the war at the end with the most dominate moment of the fight ( standing over a tired Islam, grounding and pounding).... Now think if The 2nd fight is similar... But Volks got an extra 30 seconds on top...

Part of me thinks if a fighter stays in shape and trains year round, 2 or 3 weeks notice may actually be ideal, especially for someone he fought before.

He would have gotten the title shot at light weight. He could have waited, prepared fully and gone for the double champ. If he looses, he won’t get that title shot again, has one more loss on his record.

his big advantage showed up in the last fight was his cardio in the last two rounds. Islam was onviously very exhausted and close to be finished at the end. The bell saved him. This time Alex could not do the cardio stuff on toplevel for about another 3-4 weeks.
