That was never stated in the manga (source material) and by extension, the Japanese version of the anime. But guess who made that up... the usual culprit 4kids. This is why 4kids dialogue is not used as a source... ever.

Thats because in duel links yami is treated as an hologram thats why you see kaiba say "it wasnt the real pharaoh so i didnt really beat him"
