The lack of past extinction events associated with magnetic field reversals is comforting until you take into account that no previous species or even civilizations were hopelessly reliant on a power grid.
That dependence makes modern man exceptionally vulnerable. Widespread and persistent power outages would cause absolute chaos.

Fun fact, the magnetic field started moving in opposite directions in 1859 and this just so happened to be the year of the Carrington event, a massive x-class solar flare hit earth causing auroras around the entire globe, it was so bright that people were able to read their newspapers outside at night. Anyway, that flare seemed to trigger the movement of the magnetic field of earth and it's movement has been accelerating ever since.

One of the very best explanations of how the earth's magnetic field is generated that I have heard. I can see the similarities with dynamos (for example automobile dc generators, pre-alternators) in that they relied upon residual magnetism to self excite. If the residual magnetism was lost, the dynamo could be "flashed" with a battery to reinstate the field, but get it the wrong way round and the dynamo output would be reversed, even with the same direction of rotation.

I remember reading a paper about one of those computer models years ago, and it describing that "messy" intermediate period where many north and south poles pop up and then disappear. Like this PBS Space Time episode that paper said it was too soon to know if the poles were starting to reverse, but it did point to an increasing number of magnetic anomalies. It also mentioned that as far as danger from cosmic radiation goes, the hot spots would be the boundaries between those mini poles, but that those boundaries would move relatively quickly.

I fly pigeons although not from great distances just 50 miles at the most. There were times last year that caused me to lose an unusual amount of birds. Seasoned birds that were well homed in. I probably lost 30 birds or so in a 6 month period. I'm taking into account hawks and other natural type calamities they could face on their way. I didn't get into it that deep but from what I gathered from a few others they were dealing with the same thing. I didn't try to correlate or look to see if there were any magnetic anomalies during this time period it was just kind of a theory I had as to why I was losing so many birds. Animals such as homing pigeons etc would be the first signs of something like a shift about to happen.

    • @hangtownranger
      @hangtownranger 2 роки тому +1

How do you know he isn’t cherry picking ideas? This is a short video in a field where thousands of papers and decades of study have been done, so clearly he had to cherry pick the main ideas. Not saying he is right or wrong. I am only asking cause I watch other science channels and they always have a lot of studies cited, and I didn’t find any here.
Most of what he said seemed main stream so I guess he didn’t feel he should site his information, but there is a whole debate at this new shift in the poles that would be nice to see presented rather than shrugged off as…”don’t worry, it won’t happen in your life time” which again, I agree, but I felt leaving out the debate of actual real peer reviewed studies saying the shift could be from 26yrs to 500yrs plus is a worthy mention in an unbiased video about the magnetic pole shift.

  • @weewilliewinkle

If you become fearful easily you might be better off disregarding this comment and moving on.
In the 1940s the Americans sent an Air Force Scientific Team team led by a Major Maynard E. White to investigate possible movement of the earths's magnetic poles. His son later wrote a book about his father's discoveries titled World In Peril but this does not seem to currently be obtainable. What they found was not at all comforting. They concluded that the poles did not merely move a little but moved over great distances and that upon their meeting a point would be reached where they would swing back with great rapidity. They are moving now. The North Pole is now in Siberia and moving at several miles per year.
There was speculation that under these circumstances, given the great speed of spin of the earth a dislocation of the earth's tectonic plates could occur and give rise to a great cataclysm including a tsunami of unimaginable ferocity. However, even Einstein, at that time, declared himself unable to make adequate calculations about likelihood and consequences.
In 1964 Chan Thomas published a book, The Adam & Eve Story. The CIA had a convulsion and declared it Classified. More recently they released a redacted version of the first chapter only. Thomas' writings in this book may, to my mind, have provided an additional spur for the moon landings. The book predicted huge solar flare, magnetic pole reversal at high speed and tectonic plate dislocation involving cataclysm beyond biblical proportions
When man landed on the moon heat scarred areas were found which were not the result of meteor hits but which would appear to be the result of massive Solar Flare of some sort. Such heat scarred areas are also present on earth but on the moon there is no question of its source being human.
Further persuasive evidence is provided by the fact that scientists have now identified a number of suns which undergo repeated 'micro-novas' at intervals. They think there may be a lot more such suns but they can only identify them when they repeat the process, which may in some cases be at intervals of thousands of years. They now think our own sun undergoes a superflare or mini-nova at intervals of something in the order of 12,500 years. The exact link with magnetic pole reversal cannot yet be stated with certainty. They also had been thinking that the next 're-set' of our planet could be arriving anytime from now but within the next 2,000 years. But the movement of the 'Galactic Sheet' and its interaction with Barnards Star and Alpha Centauri have led to opinions that it could arrive at our own sun and provoke spectacular activity possibly as early as 2046, although nothing is confirmed yet. This would explain why many governments have been industriously busying themselves constructing underground shelters of huge capacity. Even little Finland has one. It may be that most of them would be destroyed but if even a few of them survive we, as a species, would be able to find a way to carry on. I imagine, however, that it would be unlikely that we ordinary mortals will be allocated a place in one of these shelters. It might be helpful if I add that our ancestors may have faced the problem of cosmic rays penetrating a weak magnetic field. Obviously at least some of them survived which is why you are reading this. An underground city of unknown antiquity was found in what is now Turkey, quite by chance. It is called Derinkuyu, so you can look it up quite easily. It was and is multi-level. It could house 20,000 people and their livestock and it had flat circular rock 'doors' that could be rolled into place to seal off sections. Around the Earth as a whole there are many hundreds of miles of ancient underground tunnels that were dug out in the past, and that is just the ones that have been found. It takes a lot of work to do this kind of thing so there was obviously a highly compelling reason for their construction.
Tectonic Plate Dislocation would explain the occasional finding of out of place and time artefacts in seemingly impossible places like embedded in coal or stone deep undergound in mines which, if tectonic plate dislocation occurs, could have fallen down a resulting chasm which subsequently closed up again.
It also would explain why archeologists have found seemingly inexplicable evidence of previous civilisations of sophisticated ability in the far distant past which vanished apart from their stonework, fashioned and moved around in ways we cannot fathom or reproduce even today with all our modern technology. If you are not familiar with this have a look at this for starters ua-cam.com/video/oxuiB1vhDjM/v-deo.html on the UnchartedX UA-cam Channel.

Consider that our universe is systems within systems. Magnetic systems influence each other. Relative position of a magnetic source in it's system could exibit changes in polarity or field structure.
Could the flips then be related to our sun's position in our galaxie. Keeping in mind there are many other systems and their magnetic concentrations shift as fluidly as our core.
I recommend the magnet game polarity to get an intuitive feel for this. One placement gets out of sync and the entire play field suddenly shifts.

But since they were government maps that were all 30-40 years old and they never covered the magnetic north pole shifting with time, now I know those numbers would have sent you in a bit of the wrong direction in the past few years. Glad we started using GPS instead.

@@ossiedunstan4419 I think you completely misunderstood what I was talking about. The Magnetic North Pole is not the same as the True North Pole. So depending where you are in the world the compass will be slightly off from where the true north actually is. Now when you use a map in the legend of the map there is a conversion chart that tells you for the current part of the world map covers how many degrees difference there is from the North Pole and the Magnetic North Pole. Since the Magnetic North Pole changes, the degrees in that Legend would change with it. So unless they update the maps every time the North Pole slightly changes your heading will be off by a small amount. It has nothing to do with the North Pole becoming the South Pole.

Earth's magnetic field is currently in the process of gradually reversing, though this process is very slow and happens over thousands to millions of years. The magnetic poles, which are not fixed and have already shifted throughout the planet's history, are moving at an accelerating rate. The north magnetic pole, for example, has been drifting from the Canadian Arctic towards Russia at a rate of about 10 kilometers per year. While scientists observe this movement, it’s important to note that a full geomagnetic reversal, where the north and south magnetic poles completely swap places, has not yet occurred. The last full reversal took place approximately 780,000 years ago, and the timing of future reversals is uncertain. The process is complex, occurring within the Earth's liquid outer core, where the flow of molten iron generates the magnetic field. During a reversal, the magnetic field weakens before flipping, and this can take thousands of years to unfold.
At present, the field is not undergoing a dramatic change, but scientists are monitoring it closely. A geomagnetic reversal could affect Earth's magnetosphere, which helps protect us from solar radiation and cosmic rays. During the reversal, the magnetic field could weaken temporarily, allowing more radiation to reach the Earth’s surface, though this is not expected to lead to catastrophic consequences for life on Earth, as our atmosphere and biosphere offer significant protection. Additionally, a reversal could cause disruption to technologies that rely on magnetic navigation, such as satellites, and could potentially confuse animals that use the magnetic field for navigation. However, it is unlikely to have any significant short-term impact on human life. In short, while Earth's magnetic field is indeed undergoing gradual changes and has experienced many reversals in the past, there is no immediate cause for alarm. It’s a natural process that unfolds over geological timescales, and scientists continue to study it to better understand the dynamics of Earth's interior and its magnetic behavior.

No, what they're studying here is what exactly creates the Earth's magnetic field in the first place. Anything they learn about geomagnetic pole reversals would be incidental.
There's nothing to worry about in terms of geomagnetic pole reversals anyways. Yes they do happen. But when one does happen, it likely won't be for several thousand years at the earliest, and the process will likely take hundreds, if not thousands of years. I can't cite any figures off the top of my head, so I welcome you to look some up from a credible resource. Wikipedia's a good start, then follow their citations from there. You could find out how long the whole process takes. What the odds are of another one happening in say, the next 1000 years or whatever. Stuff like that.
You must keep in mind though that a geomagnetic pole reversal is a geological event, and geological events occur over geological periods of time, which is VERY slow. Events occur over periods of thousands or millions (or more!) years.
As far as it having an effect on water. I'm not sure where you got this idea, but water isn't (very) magnetic. Not enough to be affected by the Earth's magnetic field. So a pole reversal shouldn't affect the oceans at all. But if there's some mechanism I'm missing here I would love to hear it.
Don't worry about a pole reversal though. Even if one started right this moment, it wouldn't even become strong enough to cause any problems within our lifetimes. But in reality it probably won't occur until many thousands of years after we've died. It's just pseudoscientific scare mongering. Nothing more.
Like the people who say Yellowstone will erupt soon. Or that Los Angeles will break off of California when "the next big one" comes." Or that we're overdue for a tunguska sized meteor to hit a place like New York. It's just scare mongering meant to sell books or documentaries. So you're safe from that. In terms of geomagnetic events, I'd be more worried about solar storms. Those actually pose a real threat of doing significant damage to humanity within the next few decades. The odds aren't staggering, but considering what could happen, they're high enough.

These plumes can also interact with the galactic sheet affecting our solar system on a cyclical pattern.. And now the geomagnetic north pole is moving at a greater pace than previously expected, and our magnetic shield is decreasing as well. Couple that with the mid cycle sunspot cycle, heavy ion and proton bombardment of our planet by solar activity induced by encountering more dust in this region of space in our galaxy, and we have a recipe for extinction level events.. Extinctions have occurred within partial or full reversals. Birds and other migratory species are being affected, two years after this video.

@pierrecurie minor extinction events happen several times per million years, that's why today's fauna is slightly different from the fauna of 200,000 years ago, or even only 20,000 years ago. A 1 km asteroid hits our planet on average every half a million years, which means over 100 of them has impacted the planet since the K-Pg extinction event, and they're large enough to have an effect globally. This "fauna change" isn't commonly known cuz when we think of the time of the dinosaurs we think of a 135 million year period dominated by the same creatures, but in reality pick any two timeframes within that era only one million years apart and you'll find they're just as unrecognizable compared to each other as if you travelled one million years ago and compared with today.

      @legendarypussydestroyer6943 2 роки тому +2

@@pierrecurie If it was purely evolution then the world would've looked pretty much the same for a much longer time. The background extinction rate is one species every 4 years. This is the average extinction rate since the start of the Cambrian period, outside of any extinction events. As there are an estimated 8.7 million species on this planet, it would take over 35 million years to replace them all. We're now in an ice age (it's true, the period we're in right now is just an interglacial period of the ice age) so the planet is much colder now than what it usually has been. Think of the planet-wide tropical rainforests during the Jurassic and you'll get the idea. As there were more tropical regions and shallow seas back then, it supported greater biodiversity and likely had a greater number of species compared with today.
But we have a problem, the average lifetime of a species is mostly between 1 - 10 million years, and over half of them within the 3 - 4 million year range, which is grossly inconsistent with the 35 million year estimate. If the 4 year extinction rate was always the case except in the major 5, meaning there were no minor extinctions other than those, then you should expect only 3% of the species of an ecosystem to have been replaced in any two timeframes a million years apart, a negligible amount. With half the species being replaced every 3 - 4 million years, you'll see a replacement of upto 17% in any two timeframes a million years apart, which would raise a few eyebrows in recognizability. This wouldn't have been possible unless there were some small extinction events here and there. All it takes is a relatively sharp change in global climate, within decades to a couple millenia (major mass extinctions usually last hundreds of millienia, occuring in waves after waves back to back until most of the planet is dead). There were many. Just in the past million years alone we had several climate altering events which could've possibly caused minor extinction events globally. The Toba eruption of 74,000 years ago, the Yellowstone eruption of 631,000 years ago, Zhamanshin impact caused by a 1 km asteroid 900,000 years ago. All of those could've caused the extinction of upto a few percent of the planet's species per event. If you go beyond, lemme tell ya we've found upto 4 other impact craters caused by 1 - 2 km asteroids within the last 5 million years, and additionally a huge impact crater in Tajikistan likely originating from a giant 4 km asteroid, less than 5 million years in age.
Extinction events are extremely common if you look at Earth's history, but only a fringe minority of them have the power to wipe out most of the species like the Great Dying and K-Pg did.
Let's take the Spinosaurus as an example. They lived from 102 to 95 million years ago. That's a 7 million year period. However, that doesn't mean they shared the ecosystem with the same plants and animals all those 7 million years. A Spinosaurus from 100 million years ago would likely see that upto a sixth of the contemporary plants and animals of his time didn't exist when his distant ancestor from 101 million years ago lived. Likewise, another sixth of the contemporary plants and animals won't exist anymore and replaced by something else by the time his distant descendant from 99 million years ago was born. The ecosystem would've been 75% different for a Spinosaurus that lived 102 million years ago compared to one that lived 95 million years ago. A 75% loss of species would've normally been classified as a major mass extinction event, but it's not in this context, because in this case this happens over a timespan several times longer than required, plus the recovery rate is just as high. The species just got replaced, it could only be classified as a mass extinction if the 75% loss is replaced by nothing but empty niches. The minor extinctions along the way, which as said usually takes out a few percent of the species, do indeed produce a few percent vacancy in niches so they are classified as extinction events. But they can't be "major" unless the vacancy itself surpasses 75%.

So if you imagine the strings that get bent towards the centre of an iron atom and the negative space they make... the magnetism of iron extends 28x the distance of the magnetism of helium (they both have magnetism, but iron is huge in the number of space-time strings it pinches inside its core).

The entire solar system moves as a single unit and is drawn to the Dialectic inertia plane of the galaxy much like Saturn's galactic plane creates its flat disc of rings... and it passes it up then iit s attracted to it once again and passes it up..... and continually repeats. Like a carousel horse our solar system travels from the positive to the negative side of the galactic plane.
Like a giant magnet floating in a vacume, when it goes from the positive to negative the magnet flips poles. The magnetic molten core can move independently of the earth's crust but only to a point. When all is said and done some estimates put China under ice and the USA at the equator.

The earth's magnetic field isn't reversing as researchers suggest.....rather it is tweaking due to an unknown cause which is yet to be found out.

It appears the Matt O'Dowd didn't get the memo that the inner core and outer core of the earth is counter rotating .. Counter rotating fields explains the polar magnetic shifts .. I read an article which I don't pretend to understand that talks about a plasma layer that occurs between the inner and out cores plays the biggest role in the flipping of the mass of the inner core .. The rotation of the inner core does not change .. It undergoes magnetic changes that can cause eddies which will cause many poles to occur .. This tug of war could flip the magnetic fields or they could just go back to the way they were .. When the tug of war happens and more than 2 eddies spin the earth will have areas not fully covered by the magnetic field .. If their are 3 or more eddies their will be many blanks that will allow more solar radiation to effect the earths surface .. In 1998 we had 3 north poles for about a month .. The eddies weren't strong enough to also include multiple south poles so the overall magnetic fields did not wane badly .. In 1990 the earths resonance was about 8 Hz .. Looking at the resonances today we see several modal resonance which don't look anything like the 1990 data .. What does this mean ? .. Are countries using high energy electromagnetic devices for weather modification .. To answer this we need to understand Mammatus Clouds .. Are countries causing enough electromagnetic disturbances to cause massive pulse perturbations in our magnetic fields ? .. Is 100 Giga Joules of burst energy into the upper atmosphere enough to cause a circuit that loops into the earth that disrupts the earths magnetic core ? .. You know how scientists created nuclear weapons right .. This is another weapon "AND IT MUST BE FULLY TESTED" right ? .. This kind of action is the action of those who now have a need to destroy a country through drought and famine .. We won't go to war with you but we will kill your water supply and your aquifer which supports life ..

Wasn't it just a few months ago that the scientific community said it was thousands of years away from an excursion or complete flip , An amateur observatory has built there own magnetometers ( maverickstar ), and they believe this human lifetime we will encounter its effects. It's speeding up , field is dropping 10% a decade .. it's around 80% now. No one knows what will happen once the field gets below 50 or 40% field strength ( maybe a day out in the sun will be deadly to your health at that point , especially for the south America anomaly region ) .We do know that mammoths where frozen solid instantly when then atmospheric loss occurred on some regions of the planet , causing the oxygen and other gases to be vented out to space. Whichever way it's a real sh#t show, and there's nothing we can do. Even sending Greta thunburg to the earth's core with a set of screwdrivers ain't gonna fix it .Glad PBS sugarcoated it all for the youtube shepple , and didn't for once blame climate change for this natural reversal .😆
