I never knew PR had swells like this! Might have to make it my next trip! Where is this wave located and what time of year was it?
Couple of tips for PR as Ive lived there in the past.
Always be massively respectful, you may still be hassled in some places but you just gotta deal with that by conceeding to the locals.
Surf incredibly early in the a.m. the trade winds are side shore for the north coast and they kick in between 10am-12pm. Take a break and chilll till the evening when the winds lighten up again.
If you are driving a car leave nothing in it. you should feel comfortable with the windows down while you are out surfing.
There are a ton of gem waves on that island. Lots of amazing people and the best food you've ever had. That being said they have been through a lot of tough times recently and while tourism is pretty key for survival theres still places outsiders have to tread very lightly.
