those were the times. We picked before school, after school, and on weekends. That,s the way it was. If you want to eat, you work. Education was the way out of that situation. One thing puzzles me --- I have seen workers picking cotton in the deep south with the sack over their shoulder. we always dragged the sack from between the legs. this way the sack will hold you up instead of your back.
