Either way, the romantic nature of your travel always shines through - even when you find yourself freezing away on nondescript bridges. Or rather, precisely because of such episodes. By the way -- I guess that being born and currently residing in the weird end of Europe does help with the above cravings... inter-city and/or cross-country travel by public transport is not a breeze around here - and certainly not all that romantic.
Nice journey. We will do our annually vacation 2 week road trip in autumn: from Switzerland to the north of Portugal, on to the Lisbon area and ending south at the Algarve, then driving back home to Switzerland. Our stopps will be in the Auvergne on our way too Portugal and in Basque Country on our way back.
Another really enjoyable video. Sometimes, and I've experienced this myself, travel plans gone awry can have the silver lining of experiencing nice places you wouldn't otherwise have seen. May I suggest a lav mic for recording the audio while on location. It is quite difficult to understand at times.
Thanks - and absolutely agree re plans going awry sometimes having silver linings! (I’ve just purchased a lavalier mic - apologies, I hadn’t realised while recording it quite how noisy St Pancras was…!)
Your travelogues are so great. Indeed this was a very great challenge but you were just unlucky with ALSA and the night coach. I soon will have an overnight Flixbus from Milan to Basel and hope it would run on time
Great video. I caught the train overnight from henday to Lisbon in summer 2019 and I am glad I did. It is history now. Sniff have reinstated some night trains, let’s hope Spain and Portugal do likewise at some point.
@@travelling_turtle just noticed what predictive text did to Sncf. The carriages were quite old and getting tired so could have done with either a major overhaul or replacement. The buffet car however was a Joy one long counter and you took it in turns to sit at the counter and have your meal in the evening. This actually meant that people were forced to talk to each other and we had a very social evening with some Americans, Belgium, a man from Norway and a couple of others. Cheers.
Great video as always - enjoy watching the travel documentary style challenges on public transport on this channel! Although the time limit didn't make 24hrs, the journey was still intriguing and factual as ever!
Thank you for another delightful video. It was a shame you couldn't make it in 24 hours, but at least we were able to see a little of Vitoria on the way, which seems like a charming town.
What a delight to have a new 24 hour challenge video. The choice for the celebratory overture as you are released from that dreary wait and coach is quite understandable. I’d say that the failures make for an as interesting story and video as the successes. And a good argument for better cross-Pyrenees high-speed rail connections.
Thank you - and yes, there’s probably more stories to tell in the failures really… That cross-Pyrenean high speed line with three trains a day on it gets my goat!
Excellent as always! Hopefully the journey will be a bit more practical soon. I spent a lovely four months 'stranded' during a lockdown a few miles north of Cabo do Roca and loved it around there, and I really got to appreciate Lisbon.

I have to admit that part of me completely sympathizes and would absolutely love to travel the same way you do... yet the other part(s) of me would definitely prefer to be on a motorcycle.
Sounds wonderful!
I soon will have an overnight Flixbus from Milan to Basel and hope it would run on time
Thank you! My experiences with Flixbus has been that they are generally quite punctual, so fingers crossed for you!
Oh happy day. Another Travelling Turtle Video! I haven't even watched it yet but I had to comment because I'm so excited! ❤
Enjoy!
Great video. I caught the train overnight from henday to Lisbon in summer 2019 and I am glad I did. It is history now. Sniff have reinstated some night trains, let’s hope Spain and Portugal do likewise at some point.
Thank you! I hope so too, though I think Spain has now got rid of all its sleeper carriages, so I'm not holding my breath...
Cheers.
Wonderful vlog thank you. As always it's informative, fun, upbeat, splendidly researched and just great.
Thanks so much, that is so kind!
Great video as always - enjoy watching the travel documentary style challenges on public transport on this channel! Although the time limit didn't make 24hrs, the journey was still intriguing and factual as ever!
Delighted you enjoyed it!
Happy birthday Portugal!
Thank you for another delightful video. It was a shame you couldn't make it in 24 hours, but at least we were able to see a little of Vitoria on the way, which seems like a charming town.
Yes, Vitoria was very much a consolation prize. Well worth seeing.
"Cardinal bus stops"? Priceless! Nice to see you pass through Montparnasse, one of my regular haunts, too.
Think I might have originated that phrase!
Great video as usual, thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Thanks for coming with!
Great to see you back. Always an inspiration. Train travel from Madrid to Lisbon is possible but it takes 12 hours once a day but what a trip.
Thanks! Yes, the Madrid-Lisbon situation is ludicrous currently. Hopefully not for too much longer…
I enjoyed the Berwick-upon-Tweed comparison. Mostly because I've just started my week's holiday in Berwick-upon-Tweed 🎉
Love the Northumbria coastline. Enjoy!
Excellent as always! Hopefully the journey will be a bit more practical soon. I spent a lovely four months 'stranded' during a lockdown a few miles north of Cabo do Roca and loved it around there, and I really got to appreciate Lisbon.
Thank you! There’s much worse places to be locked down than that gorgeous coastline.
