Whoever turned you on to these guys deservers a medal.
While that would be me, but such a medal belongs to the person who first enlightened me. I think he still wants to stay anonymous though. I love everything J Geils whether it is a recording or better yet, one of their concert experiences.
Very underrated band, then and now. Peter Wolf was a clown prince of a frontman. Tight musicians, what more do you want from a band?
A great ‘70’s boogie jam band. Their live album, Full House, is among the best. Love your Beatles/Stones analogy to this song. ✌️❤️🎶
One of the best bands ever!!!! LOVE THEM!!! That harmonica! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Whammer Jammer is another banger!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The 70s!!!! The best music
Saw them 3 times in the early 70's. Great show band
Love The J. Geils Band.
This was a great live band… Their live albums are the ones to listen to.
They were such a funky group! I like almost everything they've done.
One of the greatest live bands of the 70s.
Live version of must have got lost is a must
You’re 100% right about live version. “Blow Your Face Out”, live version of this song will do exactly that. Saw them live in 1982.
Played on all stations, because back then good music was all that mattered
BY FARRRR their best song ever. I wore the grooves off this album back when
Try Whammer Jammer, First I look at the Purse, just play the whole Full House album. Can't be beat.
I swear Harri, you just keep hitting it out of the park on finding songs we almost forgot about! Wish the radio still played "the oldies" in my neck of the woods! As always, thank you Harri!
Harri reacts to the songs but Dave requested the song.
not forgotten, and youtube is full of old stuff so what you mean?
The ultimate party band when I was in High School in the 70's. And this song in particular got played at every weekend house party, for sure!
The J. Giles band was one of the best concerts
you could go to. You would like their song musta got lost. From their J.giles live album.
I agree. Fantastic live
geils
If I were to list the bands I regret not seeing live, they top that list. When they toured “Freeze Frame” I had the chance and thought they were just another new 80’s pop band.. I only wanted hard rock and heavy metal back then, still a kid mentality. Thank goodness for all their vinyl, especially those live albums.. they were just a smokin’ hot live act, and I’m sure just a total raging party wherever they played!
I saw this band blow the roof off Cobo Hall Detroit in the 70s. Best party band of of that era.
Man do you know how cool you are for reacting to this song! Youre stock has hit the ceiling ! Thank you so much! This song brings me back to the late 70s when my two older brothers played this nonstop! Love it!
hmmm song dropped in 73-74 so your brothers were late to the party too
They were a tremendous band to see live. Even the life albums don't do it justice. Even the videos don't really capture it. The atmosphere was such a party. Saw them a couple times, once with Edgar Winter opening. Tremendous show.
One of the best live bands I've ever seen 🙌 👌. Also, one of the loudest!
Agree
Glad you chose the right version, ultimate jam!
only version ive ever heard, if you know of an alternate version do post a link;)
Another double header night Beezer I love J Geils. Thanks Dave and Harri.
With all humility, I was pleasantly exhausted going through my J Geils catalogue. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the doubleheader tonight.
You should see a full dance floor shakin' down to this song.
Bring the house down! We did in the 70's.
I got to see these guys once in 74, I think. What a great group of musicians, all very dedicated to their craft. High, high energy, all of them. Thanks for this reaction!
Living in Massachusetts I saw these guys more than anyone. They opened for a lot of bands mostly at the Springfield Civic Center.
Great song! Love the funkiness and the break is killer!
One of the greatest live acts ever. The radio in Detroit.played it a lot.
Saw them twice once 1975, then in NYC in 94. Still rockin then.
Love-itis,,,,💥💥💥👍🤪
I know this song better by Mandala in Toronto.
Love it, thanks
From the 1973 album, " Bloodshot", this song charted at Number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100's.
A great energetic performance with raw and powerful sound, with lyrics filled with passion and desire.
Peter Wolf has an intense vocal performance, emphasizing the explicit nature of the song. As you say Harri, this great rock, blues, raggae sound, with driving guitar riffs, catchy bass line and powerful drumming producing an infectious
groove. Love this song, so groovy. ✌️ Glad you love the musical compositions that all encompassed my youth, a great time to be alive. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Dave. 👏👏 Cheers ftom Canada. 🇨🇦
and mr wolf got to hump faye dunaway in her prime!!
Well stated and really glad that you enjoyed this one so much.
@davebzen795 You're batting 1000 lately Dave. Thanks for the great requests. ✌️👍🎶🇨🇦
MaryB - What nice things to say. Thank you very much. @@marybaillie8907
J. Geils is pronounced with a hard G. They are criminally under appreciated IMO. They had a few hits later in their career, Freeze Frame and Centerfold, but to me their first albums were much better. If you check out their early stuff you will be amazed. House Party, Detroit Breakdown, Peter Wolf's hilarious antics on Must Have Got Lost, Lay Your Good Thing Down, Their great Curtis Mayfield cover Believe In Me, and the amazing Magic Dick harmonica blow out Whammer Jammer. Too damn much fun!
early albums were fire...
This song was a hit as well - ton of FM radio play - only reason it didn't get higher than 30 on the Top 40 was am radio censorship over the "get it up" lyric. Must Have Got Lost hit number twelve and four other top forty appearances (and four gold albums) before Freeze Frame - plus consistent FM play. Yeah, they were better known as a live band in the 70s but certainly had some - if often intermittent - success on the charts. FF, for all the criticism from older fans was -- outside of the gimmicky Centerfold and maybe Rage in the Cage -- pretty much in tune with their roots, if heavily updated for the early 80s - Freeze Frame song had some old Stax influence, Flamethrower, pretty R&B (enough to appear on the R&B charts), Insane Insane again had an Electro feel, Piss on the Wall, rockabilly, etc. Love Stinks was more AOR rock and pop than FF.
And let's not forget "CENTERFOLD" One day way back in the mid 90's,(?), I was driving through Carbon Canyon.....in California. It was known for this place called La Vida Hot Springs that had this funky old biker bar with live music. There was an outdoor bandstand for summertime shows. I almost wrecked when I saw on the marquis....Sunday...J. Geils Band. Could not believe my luck. Guess where I was on Sunday? 😃 Good times.
Wow, I hadn't heard or thought of this song in years. Thanks Dave and Harri!
Saw these guys several times in the seventies. First time was at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago where they headlined. They threw down a party. Also at Soldier Field in 1977 along with Foghat, Climax Blues Band and headliner Emerson Lake and Palmer.
Peter Wolf still out there singing great till this day.
You're right Harri, seeing them live was "next level", they were one of the best live bands I ever saw.
They were very popular in Michigan. All over the radio. I saw them live in the late 70's and it was a blast.
DaveBZen, this song is an off the chart pick man. Thank you for bringing this to Harri and back for us J Geils fans to jam on once again!!! ✌✌✌🔥🔥🔥
Wow, I struck gold with you with you on this and future J Geils submissions. Time to party says it all. Well nearly all😮.
I was 16 when this song came out. Answer to your question: It got plenty of radio play. The problem was that the song was long and got cut down for time purposes
That whole part that you refer to as "Where did that all come from" didn't make it to radio on many stations. Im glad you reacted to the full length version. Better to appreciate what a great song this is. Very popular in the bars in the mid to late 70s. Great reaction
Fantastic song ..the outro is absolutely mind blowing. It rivals The Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and The Outlaws' "Geeen Grass And High Tides Forever". Love it!!
Great one Harri. Check out the song by J.Geils Nothing But A House Party.
J Geils concerts were LEGENDARY !! PAAAAARTY!
They were one of the best live bands ever defiantly one of the most underrated ever check out their live songs well worth it
yesss ! Great tune... from the great Bloodshot album
I enjoy Harri like I used to enjoy MTV in the 80's ❤❤❤
Dave just look what came in during the Night 😊🤗🥰 What a funky Tune 💃🕺🏿
Never heard it before, but not the last time 😇 Thanks to you and Harri 👍👍👍
Agnete - Om my, such a pleasant first time J Giels experience. Yes, they are that good. I am thrilled that you enjoyed it.
their best album by far was "Full House" - great songs, hard drivin - I saw them in '72 in NY - Peter Wolf was dating Faye Dunaway - she was in the audience. The venue was awesome - an old theater - the loudest concert I've ever been to. What a rush.
Another Funky one from J Geils. (pronounced Guy-elz,, soft G)
Thans Harri
Such a groovy jam !
This band was a staple at any house parties back in the day, that is until they decided to go more commercial/pop with their Freeze Frame album in 1981. They were more rock/blues, basically all your party songs band.
My favorite J Geils song. It gets even better as is goes.
Great band to see live!
J.Geils Full House album. Blow your face out!! Blues, rock, funk LIVE.
The bad boys of Boston! They put on a party everytime they hit the stage. I think Detroit, Michigan was one of their favorite place to play. The crowd went wild everytime they played there.
Yeeaaaaaah🎉🎉🎉 What a JAM & Fantastic in Concert Woooo😊
Harri, these cats could put on a show. I saw them at a college bar (I mean the bar was part of the student activity center on campus) in Troy NY in 1973 as the undercard to Dizzy Gillespie. They were tight, humorous and loud. Should you want a party sound for guests they fit the bill. Salute!
The J. Geils Band (pronounced with a hard G) was, first and foremost, a party band, as demonstrated here when Seth Justman busts in with that organ after the bridge. One of the great bands I've seen live; they were just so much damn fun. And yes, Peter Wolf was married to Faye Dunaway. Great upload.
J.Geils, great band to see live. Had a friend get thrower off the stage 3 times, they gave him drum sticks.😂😂😂😂
I saw these guys open for ZZ Top in Nashville in the mid 1970's. What a show!
I am so envious what a concert that must have been.
@@davebzen795 R.E.O. Speedwagon went on before J.geils this was before they were a power pop band
The "Full House" album is one of the greatest live records ever recorded!!!!
As a young teen during the 70s J. Geils was one of the bands we never missed when they came anywhere close to where we lived.
Great choice Dave. I love these guys and am proud to say they come from my hometown of Boston. Great summary. Thanks Harri and Dave 🌺✌️
Debbie, thank you! Well then more on the way it shall be, you Bostonian.
One of their very best songs. Peter Wolf is a bad assed dude.
Great song from a great era. Still great 👍
funny song 😊
We were listening to this in the early 70's. They have a live album, Full House, that came out before this that you have to listen to and it is fantastic from start to finish. There's a song called Whammer Jammer that has a powerful blues harp solo going in it and played by Magic Dick (I kid you not).....just get it and listen to it!. My copy of Bloodshot was on red vinyl when I bought it in the summer of 1973! J. Geils played guitar and Peter Wolf was the singer.
Thanks Harri and they who suggestion! Great gun band. Saw them live around '80 and they put on an amazing show. Musta Got Lost live is an epic and legendary intro and song!!
I was in a wedding a long time ago when the bridal party made a circle and danced to this . laughing out loud remembering it ! great suggest !!
I wonder what they wanted at that wedding? 😂😅😊
the outro is perfection...
Reminds me of California in the 70's. In the summertime. Great choice
Yeah it was popular mid 70s for sure. I love Peter Wolfs voice, this is one of my favorite songs by them. He's a great performer. Its said he was a DJ at WBZ Boston huge 50,000 watt station back in the day. They did a great cover of a great doowop song I DO by the Marvellos and Were did our Love Go by the Supremes
Harry! Talking about the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, they were a lot closer than you might think. Back in their early days, they actually shared a flat in London.
My first concert was J Geils
By the way pronounced J GUY LLLs
Such a great band with a lot of awesome songs with grove that makes one want to dance.
Peter Wolfe was a energetic front man/singer.
Musta got lost with intro off of the BLOW YOUR FACE OUT ALBUM IS A MUST REACTION...
Southside shuffle, Detroit Breakdown, and so many more
✌🏽🤠💨🎶🎵🎶
“The Beatles to the Stones” nice description :)
DJs used to cut out the instrumentals in the middle to keep the time below 3 minutes. Can you imagine?! The drum solo is my favorite part!!!
Check out their live performance at The Winterland circa 1977. Songs like Homework and First I Look At the Purse. The lead singer Peter Wolf, is still performing today in a band full of great session players, called The Midnight Travelers. He’s also one of the nicest people in the business.
Harri….. it’s pronounced
J. Guy-L’s great reaction 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
This was heavily played on the Boston airways back in the 70’s. Shout out to Majic Dick. 🤘🏼 “Peter Wolf” (Boston) 🎸 “1973” ❤️🔥
Harri please play their biggest hit called Centerfold. Thank you
This song was from the 70's but it became more popular in the 80's. We loved it then.
mmmmm wrong nope.
J Geils lived up the street from my cousin's house. They said he was a good dude.🥁☮☘
One of their hits not mentioned is
LOVE STINKS!! 🤘
Great band !
Keep their stuff coming please !
This was the first eight track I ever received this and Rio grande mud zztop. Love them both to this day
Love this album blood shot I had the vinyl and it was red
Down in Louisiana never heard this on radio, heard first time only year ago.😊
Being from Massachusetts I saw these guys more than almost any band. They opened for many bands at the Springfield Civic Center. They are from Worcester Mass which is about 40 miles away.
The Wista thing is a bit of a stretch - Geils, Salwitz, and Klein were WPI students at first and had an acoustic, jug-type band there - Geils transferred to Northeastern and they ended up in Boston connecting with Wolf and Bladd. The full electric band really started in and was based in Boston.
Love that Gibson Flying V. Great guitar.
Geils fans need to check out " i did you no wrong". Shoulda been huge
I love the 70s
Next up J Geils "Back to get ya" and Rare Earth "Hum along and dance". Say Thank You Steve.
Any of us for J.Geils for so long I'm happy to see you have it please try Whammer Jammer or an underrated song called Sno cone
Transcending genres. One of the most dangerous bands ever. When they finally had huge success it killed their vibe.
Bloodshot is a fantastic album!
Serves you right to suffer, and First I Look at the Purse are a must. The entire album Full House Live is also not to be missed 🔥 🔥 oh yeah, also Flamethrower 😊
I was so little when this came out, and I don’t know if it crossed over or not. I know my dad had like a 1973 greatest hugs 8 track tape, and this song was on it. I assume it was 1973, si ce the video says it was. They really were an awesome and. I remember them from the late 70s and early 80s.
Hard Gee sound to J.Geils amazing party band . They were a staple in Boston MA back in the day local band. and they played it on radio WBCN all the time, but we had the most amazing F.M. Radio that is still loved by those who were there ☮️ always wondered what was wrong with the rest of the country that they weren’t huge
You are right , Harri. Ska/reggae/funk! Keyboards are fire,as is the harmonica.
They had a popular live album called, I believe it was Full House Live. It was quite good. Tske a stab, you wont regret it.
This album and especially this song was burned into my 12 year old mind by my two older brothers! Not complaining! Jus saying!
I love J.Geils! It was the first concert I when too!
During the time they were popular, Aerosmith was also big but more famous in international stage. Both were “Bad Boys of Boston”. Had the rare honor to see them in concert together at historic Fenway Park. They “opened” for Aerosmith. They were the better band BY FAR and I’m saying that as a MASSIVE fan of both. I’ve gone to see Danny Klein play with other members of the band. They have done well for themselves after the fame of Centerfold(the worst song they ever released!). People in Detroit were also huge fans of the band as well!
