This looks exactly like the real thing, except made by Lego ;-) The price! TBH, The nose doesn't scream Geländewagen because it's too square at the front. The lights and hood should be at a (more obvious) angle. And the thick bumper doesn't help, either. That said, it's a pretty good effort, but the price! the price!
the blue pins still there though. WHY? it look very neat, I even am fine with the red oins (fine because its an orange car) and the price - well for Lego its actually not too much... The DO go in a better direction finally. Concurrence is working :)just hope the logos are printed, sticker license is ...bad :D
I pray for the when we go back to the golden age of technic where we got a bunch of Crazy builds like the 2001 Rahi or 1998 Technic competition sets and other Technic sets that aren't boring as heck Licenced cars.
If it sells well, they will make it. Lego was throwing ideas at the wall between the late 90s-mid2000s as they were in a terrible financial state and needed to find additional ways to make money
@@Majorlydevilish Out of the sets releasing on August 1st, the boat is my favourite. Something unique, not a car, and it looks like it’s got a decent amount of functions too.
Wow this looks pretty good. When I first heard of it, I thought they would go for a safe boring color like black or white but orange is pretty nice, looks very off roady
Those "piston pins" are quite recent pieces indeed, and work in conjunction with an eccentric "crank" disk, which is actually more like a cam. So no connecting rods, just connect the pin straight to that disk (and different from earlier solutions, not relying on gravity). Not very prototypical, but I think there will be some interesting possibilities with these pieces for completely other purposes. As for this set, I actually quite like it! Way more than the P1 yesterday at least. Though it would have been so much better had this been the 6x6 version.... Biggest question will be the mechanisms though. Seems like the gearbox itself is just DNR, no actual gears. There is that sticker for a hi and lo ratio, but that's never mentioned anywhere. And there's also the sticker for the diff locks, yet it seems like you just have to engange those manually on the axle, so no mechanism whatsoever. So looking forward to reviews which should show what's actually there and what's not.
@@WizardOfOss for the locking diffs, I'm assuming that possibly, the one in the cabin is for the center diff, because the rear is only shown to be completely manual. And looking at the photos, nothing like the mechanism on the rear is visibke in the middle. And for the hi-lo, I'm assuming it's just a multiplier on the engine to make it go faster or slower or in real terms a multiplier for the amount of torque sent to the wheels. That also could be why there is no transmission like the land rover for instance.
Love the functions in this one, and the G Wagon lends itself well to System and Technic treatment. Not usually a fan of Technic sets, but I might pick this one up!
When I see this set I think about what Karl Benz (inventor of the ICE with heavy finance help from his wife) would think about modern vehicles and the state of the current auto industry. Even as Electric cars improve slowly. Most vehicles on the road are still using his Internal Combustion Engines almost 140 years later.
That slider actually does lock the lego technic diffs. It forces the housing to turn at the same speed as that axle therfore preventing the gears from turning inside.
After seeing the pictures for the first time, I decided that this is the next thing I want to build. I'm not a big fan of Lego Technic, but this looks like a very impressive set, I have the Land Rover, I wonder how it would look next to it
Aren't the pins coloured so that they are easily distinguishable during the build process? There is probably a better way for compromise's sake, but I don't begrudge them this method, as I experience its benefits.
I find it crazy that it costs the the same as the Icons Land Rover from last year despite having more pieces, being larger, and way more functional. Biggest scale Technic model I've built so far has been the Land Rover, and this looks like a fantastic follow up to it. :and Rover also used a similar engine style though I think the piston design is completely new for this year used in some earlier Technic sets. Definite buy for me.
I LOVE watching the models 'play' and 'put together' the Lego sets, wonder how they feel messing with this stuff, if they're Lego fans in real life or not :D
I crave my gaps in the rear section (from the speed series).... But honestly, it should have been all black or at least dark grey. Orange for me is McLaren or an old Volvo from the swedish tele-company! ;-)
This LandRover looks super clean and very interesting in all, it's a very good looking build fully functional, heck, all it's missing is a way to remote control it with a motor, otherwise, it's amazing, price is more affordable than the McLaren P1 at least, still too steep for me.
This looks like the new deep orange? They're using the new motorcycle piston setup, which is meh. I was concerned that this would be a "re-paint" of the Land Rover, but they're using the new differentials, with yes, working differential locks, so the gearing is definitely all new inside.
One thing to bear in mind off the bat, the price of this is actually on par and virtually the same as the Technic Land Rover Defender set that came out in 2019. That set was £175 and $200, but that was five years ago; with inflation, that set would be around under three pounds or under five dollars less than this new G500 set, by today's standards. So the price is par for the course, relatively speaking. Still expensive, but not that massively outrageous. As for the set, I'm not a fan of the real car itself, as I don't like these kinds of cars in general, especially for how very common and fashion-statement like the 4x4s, SUVs and crossovers have become and still are, but as a model and toy, this is pretty awesome! I guess it's like a "cut-price alternative" of the 1/8th scaled Supercars series of sets, since this still has the majority of the functions as the supercars plus a bit more, it's a similarish overall volume as it's shorter in length but much taller in height, but it is drastically less costly by a massive $200, or 200 Euros, or £170. It's gonna be a question of do you like what you see?
I honestly think the G63 or the car that every influencer ever has is ugly, but the g500 goes back to the early g-wagon militant routes, and I think mercedes has always nailed it with the non-AMG regular g-series.
I had hoped it would have the full gearbox from the Defender set, it would've been perfect with it. I still think it's really cool, will definitely be picking it up once it's a little discounted
Designer Milan Reindl removed the complex gearbox and give this Benz a simple high speed and low speed gearbox. Adding Rear Differential Lock and Central Locking feature. Overall is stepdown from Land Rover Defender. BTW, Engine piston are from Kawasaki H2R.
From a gearbox complexity standpoint yes, but I think the quality and overall stability will be better. With the land rover, it had some issues with the gearbox not working correctly and making some clicking noises. I actually prefer this design to make it a more sound model.
its a real locking diff yeah, idk why they didnt make the front diff lock as well as I've basically already added that in an LDCAD mockup, i had to resort to using the 5L axle-cv joins that came in the technic ford GT unfortunatley, if I widen either the axles or scale the whole model up I can get the planetary hubs in
Maybe it's the color, but from pictures and videos it gives me more of a feeling of an oversized Jeep lol But the model seems neat and the price seems fair.
The g63 has a twin turbo v8. The regular g500 has an inline 6 because in this case the professional line g500 is built more to go offroad than its amg counterpart.
The windshield looks really bad. The angles don't fit and it looks open at the top. The fenders aren't good either. In contrast to the Technic Defender, this set is a big disappointment. At most the front section is reminiscent of the G-Class. The rest looks arbitrary and simple.
Why is the speed champ g series in black and not orange, yet they do the lambo in white. You would think Lego would know black and white bricks suck. Black collect dust like no other and white turn yellow. Only color worse is dark brown and dark red because they just shatter. Lego living in denial gives us lesser sets.
This set is WAY to overpriced, it is basically a Lego Land Rover Defender that people could get for 120 Dollars some years ago, 130 Dollars for 318 more pieces.
@@JANGBRiCKS Still, the price jump from Lego is too much for my taste and the more people buy these inappropriately priced products the more pricier Lego will get in the Future.
@@JANGBRiCKS yeah, sure, but I doubt that Lego would incrementally remove the blue studs. This strikes me more like a lucky coincidence. If they decided that the blue studs were wrong, they would probably cut them out in one fell swoop.
Lucky coincidence on two huge sets back to back? Possible... I guess. Don't expect blue pins & red axles to ever go away; they're far too valuable to the build experience for the non-UA-cam-commenting majority. Best we can ask for is this sort of major reduction seen here & on the P1, and perhaps some new cap/cover vanity parts. An alternate bag of uncolored substitutes for expert builders would be great, too.

This is the Landrover with a new coat of paint. I really liked the Landrover. For the original 179€ this is a wishlist item.
It doesn’t look like a land rover imo, probably because it is a Mercedes.

I feel with some strategic repositioning of parts, this could be a decent INEOS Grenadier or even LC70.

For the piece count and functions + new pieces and tires, I'd say the price isn't bad. Definitely gonna be picking this one up.
To me the color just doesn’t scream mercedes, more like a jeep. I think besides the color being a bit odd the size and scale looks good.
If you look up the actual rig, it is a very similar shade of orange believe it or not.
Design looks splendid! i don't like colour, though...
