I de-Bubba'd my Winchester 670 with Birch Stock. Someone had painted it. Instead of trying to replicate the darker factory finish (Which was similar to a Ruger 10/22) I took inspiration from the M70 Supergrade in AAAA Maple. I replicated the color pretty close, but of course I don't have the contrasting caps or the figure. The lighter color seems to cause less issue with obvious blotches.
That stock looks great, I really love the gloss. I just re-did a birch Marlin stock with some super-blonde shellac and spar urethane on top. It came out much lighter than yours, but I love the blonde look on birch. I'm into milsurps and such, and although I love it, there's more to life than walnut!
