I’ve met Arch, Palafox 25 years ago, we’ve worked on some of their projects, I was very young then and just starting my career. He would talked to me like we’re in the same level and even asking my opinion, very humbling. I won’t forget those times. he’s a very down to earth guy.

Land reclamation like Manila Bay Land Reclamation has severe environmental consequences. It threatens those same livelihoods it’s supposed to serve. Our planet relies on these coastal ecosystems for biodiversity and greenhouse gas absorption. And at the root of this artificial expansion is remorseless economic growth and batters the environment in the process. **Temperatures are rising world-wide due to greenhouse gases trapping more heat in the atmosphere. Tropical storms becoming more severe due to warmer ocean water temperatures.!!!** United States Embassy raised concerns that the Manila Bay reclamation projects in the area could harm the environment - land reclamation activities can, directly and indirectly, impact the environment. Examples of direct effects include alterations in coastal geomorphology, variations in the chemical content of water and changes in biological composition along the littoral zone. The indirect impacts can involve geological changes and increase vulnerability to natural disasters - **LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO DUBAI RECENTLY - SUPER TYPHOON WITH HEAVY RAINS AND VERY STRONG WINDS DUE TO GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS DURING THEIR RECLAMATION. THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO UNITED ARAB EMIRATES BEFORE!!!** Reclamation processes also result in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from vehicle and machinery fuel use and through the release of carbon stored in vegetation, soils and sediment in mangroves and seagrass ecosystems. Considering the global extent of land reclamation, the scale of these emissions is likely to be of widespread interest. The case of Jakarta Bay provides useful insights that can contribute to the improved environmental management of kindred land development projects in Indonesia and other parts of Asia. More than 5,100 ha of new land mass is planned from the Jakarta Bay reclamation. Preliminary analysis suggests that 30% of the planned area will require more than 150.7 million cubic meters of sand sourced from 8,628 ha of marine quarry area. In this study, they examine the sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in these activities and the potential opportunities available to reduce them. The audience for their paper includes policymakers, environmental practitioners, city developers and postgraduate scholars dealing with land reclamation or other major infrastructure developments.

No. One concern is the flooding and ultimately the sinking of parts of NCR.
      My question:
What will happen to displaced water coming from inland? Will this water get to the main seawater?
Palafox is not cincerned with the flooding. He is concern in promoting his business.
Reclamation should be totally stopped. This is a silly project.
Reclamation will flood the whole NCR and environs. Duterte the dirty and his bagmen and women should be held accountable NOW!

@@juanitamasian9414 Look at this ... As lockdown ends, activists brace to resume fight over Manila Bay reclamation - May 25, 2020 - Land reclamation projects in Manila Bay are expected to resume once Metro Manila transitions from lockdown this month, some part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s flagship “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program. In early April, Duterte said he was willing to sell government properties to fund his administration’s pandemic response, including allowing reclamation projects in Manila Bay that he’d previously opposed in exchange for rice and cash. “Our reserves can only last for a few months,” Duterte said on April 6. “I am willing to sell the whole Dewey Boulevard for whoever wants to reclaim the land around it. Give me rice and I will approve that even if I don’t agree to reclamation.” **CHINA RESPONDED TO FORMER PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE AND THEN HE APPROVED IT - BIG "BLUNDER"!!!**

Floods have been occurring in Bulacan even prior to the commencement of the new Manila International Airport's construction. The responsibility primarily lies with the LGU and provincial government. They appear to be allowing Bulacan citizens to attribute the flooding issues to the airport construction, thereby avoiding taking accountability themselves. The airport construction is being used as a convenient scapegoat. In reality, it is the government that should be held accountable due to their decades-long negligence towards their constituents

Engineering study and intervention is always the answer to all small and big water drainage problems. Engineering study always includes environmental assessment. Politics should not be used to defeat good study and assessment. Good example was the immediate cancellation of the properly-studied contract of the Belgian company to dredge Laguna Bay to eliminate flooding in Metro Manila. The cancellation was done by Pres Noynoy Aquino just few days after Pres Aquino became president without any technical reason except that it was signed during the previous Arroyo administration.

That is why the Philippines is and will remain outside the radar of foreign investors (we have very low FDI flows). All these reclamation projects had the full approval of previous administrations (ECC, EIA, etc), including the final approval of the President of the Philippines. A new administration comes and suspends all these? What does this say about our investment environment??? Whether the Projects are, overall beneficial or not, should have been studied BEFORE final approval was granted.

Glitzy hotels dot the skyline, luxury villas line the beaches and opulent restaurants cater to the 0.1%. For a county aspiring to be developed, modernized, competitive and a safe investment destination, "suspending" large scale private infrastructure works give a bad look. It shows we do not know how to run things. In the first place, how can the currently working reclamation activities be allowed to proceed if they did not have the clearances from the PRA, the DENR, the PPA, the Coast Guard, and all concerned agencies. If we keep giving the green light on these projects and then the senate or congress, after a couple of months says "stop!" it's like saying those agencies are not working. What's the use of these agencies? Why are we going through the lengthy process in the first place kung incompetent naman pala yung mga ahensya natin. Besides, if these projects are cancelled... who's going to pay for them to take out all the sand that has already been poured in?

Sea levels will definitely rise if coastal countries decide on increasing the number of reclamation projects. Bringing in substrate from far inland and dumping them on the coast lines to produce reclamed land is quite similar to placing pebbles inside an already filled glass of water. That glass of water will spill. And we add climate change with the thawing of inland ice making their way to the sea worsens the issue of global sea level rise.

Sabi nga ni Presidente lahat ng dating nakagawian ay baka hindi na applicable because of climate change. Iba ang condition sa Dubai to be compaired sa condition sa Pinas years ago & now. Kailangan talaga ang bagong pag aaral, bagong assessment at designs. Magagaling ang PH Engineers, Architects & Sir Falafox is only one of them.

Learn from history in Europe and US that land recovery has many negative impact. The global warming is raising the sea water level, super storms, PI is in the ring of fire means earthquake are often, Buildings need to have deep foundation drilled to the bedrock. For as long as the government is partially funding this project it will continue. This is not a sustainable project. Use the money to elevate the shelters of low income and provide a much improved urban planning within metro Manila. If you want investment flow in the country, you must have an improve infrastructures where it is 24/7 reliability. Human labor (OFW) is still the number one export of the Island.
