Saturday morning Cartoons got nothin on this video! Glowing, screaming, smoking, spinning wheels & swinging bells… what a show! We loved it!! My son’s pick for the whistle is the Hooter because “owls are spooky!”
The Lionel whistle . No comparison. Your theatrics are always sooo much fun to watch. Hope to see U at York in the halls or the meet and greet You tubers on Friday.
I think what I love most about Lionel’s choice for using the Triplex in there Halloween line is that the Triplex truly lives up to that Frankenstein monster aesthetic since the engine in real life was considered a truly odd creation! Enjoy the spooky season Chris!
You’re definitely right there! The Virginian even had one with a 2-8-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, though it didn’t fare so well either. I wonder if Lionel bought the Railking tooling as MTH made one in Railking? Would Lionel perhaps produce one for O-31 layouts with as much detail and features?
This engine is just plain cool. Lionel has really hit it out of the park with their holiday theme trains. The Legacy Pacific from 2018 with its matching heavyweights is 1 of my favorites in my collection. Looking forward to seeing the soon-to-be-shipped Halloween F19 and the Doom Liner next summer.
I love your videos! I know you must have heard this before, but the resemblance to Jim Carey is undeniable, as well as the wit! You are a great ambassador for the greatest hobby in the world!
Well what a train to fit the vibe! And plus I love your layout cris! You made me make my own layout since I’ve watched your videos. Keep up the good work.
i don't know why but i really like the halloween engines halloween makes, both ironically and unironically paintscheme is epic eerie railroad its a perfect being, and i love it. lionel's years of making model trains has all culminated in this masterpiece, and i am HERE FOR IT!
Wow What a beautiful locomotive Chris So many different machines that you have presented on your layout I found this locomotive very beautiful, The steam whistle I found beautiful just like a steamboat on the Mississippi river, I enjoy your episodes on this Canal every time Chris One word Great, Greetings from your friend Henk At the Belgian Border Essen,Driver at the NMBS Railway,If you lived closer I would definitely come and visit, To see all that beauty,❤😀👍
I ❤love❤, "A clean train is a 😊Happy😊Train!" When comes to pronunciation, I prefer Tri - plex, just like your pronunciation! MTH's whistle is much more authentic to my ear. The🔔 bell is an underrated effect. Thanks for the posting, and keep up the Great Work!! Sincerely, Nathan in Chicago 🇺🇲
As someone who models in OO and N scale, this engine is seriously impressive. Like, I've seen a coupe of your reviews, but THIS is the most amazing locomotive I have ever seen. The glow in the dark looks absolutely spectacular, as if it is a real ghost train. The bell moving is quite cool too but man, that wheelslip feature is the most fun and amazing feature. Love the spooky vibe of it. Great review 👍👍
Those dudes at Lionel must be smokin' some good stuff. lol. I dig the ghost light under the firebox. Tremendous. Glow in the dark too. What's not to like. Have fun Chris!
The model is phenomenal! Love how intimidating it looks and the whistle was just the icing on the cake due to how intimidating she is! Also you weren’t wrong about the prices on the eBay market 😅
That is such a beautiful locomotive Chris. I love the sound effects and I was particularly impressed with the chuff rates between the locomotive and the tender. Three thumbs up (is that possible?) for the Lionel Halloween tri-plex (or is it "tripple ex" who knows?) ha ha. I loved the wolf howl whistle.
Got mine from Dixie Union Station, got lucky, didn't pre-order, got it because the order was cancelled. This is definitely a very cool.engine. Great video Chris
That Lionel triplex is awesome. Definitely the Lionel won the whistle battle as it’s Halloween and it’s a lot more eerie as in the name. Sure to shiver the spine in real life
I love big steam and I love Halloween so this locomotive is Awesome! Some think it's silly but I honeslty this it's awesome! Love the "EERIE" name very clever!
The engine was outstanding!!! The details, bell, whistle, everything. When it glowed in the dark, that really completed it. All that's missing is some glow in the dark passenger cars. The whistles were good too. I like the werewolf better. The bell sounded like the bell from the Lionel Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine Set. In my opinion, I think the number on the engine should be 1031 instead of 3131 because the 10 represents October as the tenth month of the year and the 31 represents the day of halloween.
The best Halloween Triplex review of them all! That was excellent. Thank you Chris! The MTH sounded a little better. Maybe Lionel needed to install a sound baffle, like it needed to on the last Big Boy to bring out the bass a little more. But you have a choice of 5 different whistles with the Lionel so that's a big plus. I ordered the Matt Shay and then I said, that Halloween is going to be so awesome, so I went ahead and bit the bullit and ordered it too. I have the matching passenger cars on order too.
Buying strategies 1st is preorder (up to 20% off) 2nd is msrp in stock 3rd is eBay when sold out for above msrp 4th is got out of hobby, changed scale, estate sale, etc. Using the 4th strategy and waiting for the roadname I wanted = 37% off my legacy engine on eBay. Nos condition. Box included. This is how I buy all my stuff. It allows me to have nicer stuff.
The Lionel whistle has the best whistle because of the echo after you are done blowing the whistle. I also have the Ho scale Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and I just love the sound of the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 whistle
The biggest news with SL&L 1084 literally had me hyped up completely as this is gonna be the first 4-6-2 to operate ever since 1361 was undergoing operational restoration and since 425 went down for an overhaul.
Okay I'm sorry but that is freaking creepy and cool this new Lionel vision line triplex steam locomotive is ridiculously cool and frickin terrifying and this is the first time I'm seeing a Locomotive glowing in the dark
I love the Lionel triplex being a Holiday locomotive it is hard to compare it to MTH triplex that is a Normal triplex both are great models and jealous you have both Chris
The whistle does sound great on the Lionel one however I'm pretty sure it's the wrong whistle for the triplex considering that sounds like a C&O Hooter
Funny you should do a video on triplex when I just got a message from someone wanting me (Phoenix Train Works) to design one in Lego. Well, your excellent video is now my study material. :)
Hey RBP trains, I think there is a big steam locomotive you might want to get in O scale, and it is the Australian Garratt engine, either 6029 or 6040 specifically that I am (aware of) being the last remaining but preserved ones, as 6029 is still ran from time to time for special steam passenger rides when it is in use, you should have a look to see if you can find one to add to your collection!
I’m glad Lionel got the bell to sync with the sounds. I’m sure that’s not something they had to do. That’s something that would bug the heck out of me if it didn’t!
HEY CHRIS NICE HALOWEEN LOCOMOTIVE THE GROOVY GHOULIES EXPRESS NOW ALL YOU NEED ARE THE GLOW IN THE DARK HALOWEEN PASSENGER CARS TO GO WITH IT I THINK ERIC SIEGEL ORDERED THAT WHOLE TRAIN ;-)
I am curious as well. The price tag makes this one too tough to predict. I am really liking the Doom Liner Diesel set that Lionel is making. Didn't order one...yet....but that one really has my eye!
Whistle battle, I would say MTH but only if it was louder. So I guess that’s a tie for me. As far as the locomotive goes. It’s to one seasonal for me to enjoy year around. But I have to say the wheel slip and moving bell are pretty cool.
Saturday morning Cartoons got nothin on this video! Glowing, screaming, smoking, spinning wheels & swinging bells… what a show! We loved it!! My son’s pick for the whistle is the Hooter because “owls are spooky!”
Hi dadified!
The Lionel whistle . No comparison. Your theatrics are always sooo much fun to watch. Hope to see U at York in the halls or the meet and greet You tubers on Friday.
that wheelslip feature is SO UNBELIEVABLY COOL
Yes, it is
This is one of the main reasons I wanted to try out this engine. Wild!
With me being a Railfan I didn’t even notice that I would spell eerie “Erie” on some of my assignments! Great video Chris!
I think what I love most about Lionel’s choice for using the Triplex in there Halloween line is that the Triplex truly lives up to that Frankenstein monster aesthetic since the engine in real life was considered a truly odd creation!

Lionel whistle hands-down. Thank for the review! Looking forward to running mine after York.
Super Triplex! Lionel's whistle wins hands down! Hope they bring out a nice set of 18" spooky passenger cars to go with it! Congrats on your purchase!
They have 21" cars coming in 2025
@@kevinmartin9940 Thanks for the heads up!

I have always had a soft spot for the Triplex. The greatest thing to come out of Erie.
I've never been much of a fan of Halloween-Themed locomotives, but this one is sharp!! Congrats and thanks for sharing!
i don't know why but i really like the halloween engines halloween makes, both ironically and unironically
paintscheme is epic
eerie railroad
its a perfect being, and i love it.
lionel's years of making model trains has all culminated in this masterpiece, and i am HERE FOR IT!
Not gonna lie, it's fun seeing the Gundam models slowly increase over time in the background
If you ever get a chance to watch "Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz", I highly recommend it, one of the best movies I've seen!
Should definitely have mobile suit strapped to a flat car or something being transported around the layout. Combining both hobbies!
Spooky Woo Woo. I like the MTH for the whistle battle.
Every version of this Triplex is just awesome and I hope more engines have that physical wheel slip in the future. Fantastic video as always Chris!
The glow in the dark feature makes it look more like a ghost of a triplex that has returned from beyond the scrapyard
Rbp: clean trains are happy trains
Me: glowing trains are happy trains
LOVE THIS VIDEO CHRIS!!!! RAVE ON BRO, RAVE ON!!!! ~~ Howard & Jane M.😀🙃😊🥰🤟🤘☝👍👍👍👍🚂🚃🚂🚃👍❤🤍💙😉😍🤩🥰
Glow in the dark got my vote, and both are beautiful engines Chris😊😊
Dude, you’re a modern day Gomez Addams! Keep having fun.
Always awesome to see an other one of your train videos. Also, glad to see the gunpla collection growing with that Sinanju in the background.
As someone who models in OO and N scale, this engine is seriously impressive. Like, I've seen a coupe of your reviews, but THIS is the most amazing locomotive I have ever seen. I really like the features that Lionel packed in it. Very cool. Thanks for watching!
Hi Chris, good to see you back. MTH for whistle and the model detail. Lionel for wheel slip. Bill
Nice video love your Lionel O scale and Halloween steam locomotive fun there all good
Wow! Really cool! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this Halloween party! Beautiful trains!
I love the new halloween triplex with its looks and sounds. Triplex burnout! Ha ha chris. See you at york.
Not looking like I will make York this year. Hopefully next time!
@RBPTrains I'm sorry to hear that buddy. You will be missed at the youtuber show.
Love that version of the Triplex. Great video yet again!!
Those dudes at Lionel must be smokin' some good stuff. lol. I dig the ghost light under the firebox. Tremendous. Glow in the dark too. What's not to like. Have fun Chris!
I like the mth whistle awesome UA-cam channel Mr Chris very comical down to earth guy 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
The model is phenomenal! Love how intimidating it looks and the whistle was just the icing on the cake due to how intimidating she is!

Budd your videos are FUN !!! THANK YOU
Got mine from Dixie Union Station, got lucky, didn't pre-order, got it because the order was cancelled. This is definitely a very cool.engine. Great video Chris
You snagged a one-of-a-kind! Luck was on your side :)
@@RBPTrains I would agree but I am probably one of their best customers. The only place I saw one was Charles Ro and that might already be gone.
I'd be extremely happy to have in my back pocket what you and Eric have spent only on locomotives!
Chris, you're like an acquired taste, I bet your wife tells you that too. Always enjoy your videos. Thank You!
This has gotta be the coolest engine your collection Chris! I'm jealous....
WOW!! IT'S GREAT!!! CONGRATULATIONS FROM MONTEVIDEO URUGUAY, SOUTH AMÉRICA!!
I've never been one for trains with gimmicks but this one is awesome!
That Lionel triplex is awesome. Definitely the Lionel won the whistle battle as it’s Halloween and it’s a lot more eerie as in the name. Sure to shiver the spine in real life
Congratulations 🎉looks great on your beautiful layout 👋👍🚆🚂
Very enjoyable video,thank you.
Keith (London UK )
I love big steam and I love Halloween so this locomotive is Awesome! Some think it's silly but I honeslty this it's awesome! Love the "EERIE" name very clever!
super video, Lionel has a winner
I was hoping you made a video of the new vision line triplex! Glad you did it
The engine was outstanding!!! The details, bell, whistle, everything. When it glowed in the dark, that really completed it. All that's missing is some glow in the dark passenger cars. Man I’d love to get one of these someday it’s the biggest fantasy holiday themed locomotive Lionel has ever made it’s super cool
The best Halloween Triplex review of them all! That was excellent. Thank you Chris! The MTH sounded a little better. I think Lionel won that whistle battle, hahaha! The Halloween version is so cool!
I'm a Milwaukee Road fan, so thanks for Hiawatha as backdrop and additional action.
Thanks Chris, very enjoyable video!
Awesome demo of the Eerie Triplex!
The Lionel whistle has the best whistle because of the echo after you are done blowing the whistle. I also have the Ho scale Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and I just love the sound of the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 whistle
Spookily Amazing!!!
Good to know your voice is back
Both locos are so cool the features are amazing 👍
That thing is awesome, Chris!
I VOTE FOR THE LIONEL WHISTLE. I ALSO HAVE THE MR MUFFINS ARMY GREEN TRIPLEX. I LOVE IT. GOOD LUCK WITH YOURS. 🙂
I love the Lionel triplex being a Holiday locomotive it is hard to compare it to MTH triplex that is a Normal triplex both are great models and jealous you have both Chris
Hey Chris. Like your videos. I vote for the Lionel. It has a whistle as robust as the engine. The MTH Triplex whistle sounds wimpy.
I think it would be cool if Lionel did defunct railroads as glow-in-the-dark ghost trains.
The whistle does sound great on the Lionel one however I'm pretty sure it's the wrong whistle for the triplex considering that sounds like a C&O Hooter
Look, its mini dressed up as chris for halloween...😊😊😊❤❤❤
MTH whistle for me. Love the Halloween themed Triplex.
Funny you should do a video on triplex when I just got a message from someone wanting me (Phoenix Train Works) to design one in Lego. Well, your excellent video is now my study material. :)
Very Nicely Done👍👍👍👍.
Amazing train
i'm second!
You should recreate the train scene from, sometimes they come back. for a Halloween video
Very entertaining, you remind me of a young Jim Carry !
that is so cool about it glowing in the dark
I like how it glows in the dark
Love Halloween love the train love the video
I’m glad Lionel got the bell to sync with the sounds. I’m sure that’s not something they had to do. That’s something that would bug the heck out of me if it didn’t!
Nice video !!
HEY CHRIS NICE HALOWEEN LOCOMOTIVE THE GROOVY GHOULIES EXPRESS NOW ALL YOU NEED ARE THE GLOW IN THE DARK HALOWEEN PASSENGER CARS TO GO WITH IT I THINK ERIC SIEGEL ORDERED THAT WHOLE TRAIN ;-)
Looking forward to seeing them when Eric gets them. I am sticking with my spooky freight cars for now :)
This. Is. Cool.
And those are some huge fkn cylinders.
The paint scheme kinda reminds me of Arcade and Attica 18's paint scheme from a few years ago when she was in Orange
It will be interesting to see how collectible this engine becomes. It certainly has its place in history as the first big high end Halloween engine.
I am curious as well. The price tag makes this one too tough to predict. I am really liking the Doom Liner Diesel set that Lionel is making. Didn't order one...yet....but that one really has my eye!
The 2025 vol 1 catalog by Lionel featuring a scary big boy Yellowstone j1e 😂 😈
Lionel whistle….hands down…..NOT EVEN CLOSE!! 💥
Cool train run👍🔥🙏💪❤️🇺🇸 Your videos are always exciting 🙏🙏🙏🔥
Since you seem interested in Halloween themed trains, try taking a look at the Halloween Crusader from MTH
hi chris im leaning toward the mth triplex whisle your vidieos are great .
Luv the Triplex got one myself doesnt glow but a great model
Don’t worry about it it’s named triplex and the hallowing one wins
Awesome triplex Chris.
wow great video a+
In my opinion, MTH whistle is the winner hands down!

The best Show happy Halloween 🎃☠️🇺🇸🚂🇩🇪🎃☠️ Great from Germany
Clean trains are happy trains
TECHNOLOGY HAS COME A LONG WAY. BACK IN THE DAY WE UES TO MAKE THE SOUNDS OURSELVES.
WOO WOO CHOO CHOO 😂
MTH BROTHERMAN!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰❤🤟🤘👍👍👍👍🚂🚃🚂🚃😁🙃😊
Awesome video! First!
If you want to make it really scary make it a Guilford back from the dead locomotive. All you need is a big G on the tender.
