I had friends who were super into bands like this when I was in high school. I knew that it was good music, but try as I might, I could never get past how in-touch with their feelings they were and as a positive hardcore kid, I just couldn't relate. Now I'm older and dead inside, so I'm finally able to appreciate it more.
takes me back to tenth grade staring out the window of my english classroom while listening to this, not paying attention at all and not really feeling the need to. really lovely how music can produce such strong memories and emotions.
@Conor Obbberst stfu Conor oberst sucks bright eyes sucks commander Venus was the only good thing he was in and it's cause Tim Kasher and the Faint boys were in it you know nothing I know everything you don't even like emo poseur
i've come back to this same upload like a hundred times since discovering it in high school and every time i find a stronger appreciation for it. thanks for uploading. truly amazing record
Never heard the term "post-emo" before. Commonly i've heard music like this beeing described either as "90sEmo" or "MidwestEmo". Not that what genre it is really matters, its a great album. Thanks for the upload.
All those terms describe the same thing, it just depends on where you live or who you talk to. Generally post emo, midwest emo etc etc refer to the 2nd wave of the genre. Glad you enjoyed the upload.
***** emo violence was just another term for screamo and indie emo was just another term for post emo. as far as I'm concerned 'pop-emo' isn't a thing. also 'emocore' is just short for emotive hardcore.
@Liam B Jones Lol, Penfold are also "derivative punk-influenced rock." to believe such clean, poppy, polished, soft indie rock is "pure emo"...LOL. this is post-emo indie rock, the second most popular offshoot of "emo" which gave way to all that 2000s pop rock...pretty obviously I might add, it's no far stretch from this stuff to the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Boys Night Out, or The Academy Is..., who all share a common ancestry in the likes of Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz, and Jawbreaker. If you would like some "pure emo" from this era, try Forstella Ford, The Khayembii Communique, You & I, Rye Coalition, Four Hundred Years, Bread and Circuits, Orchid, Yaphet Kotto, Funeral Diner, Reversal of Man, The Red Scare, Twelve Hour Turn, Gods Reflex, Three Penny Opera, Ambassador 990, or Still Life. "pure emo" = emotional hardcore. I agree it's only fair to reserve the distinction to the true pioneers, but if you're gonna be elitist, better go all the way, or else you're just inconsistent. ;)
StillNoIdea same shit though. Midwest emo, post emo, second wave, indie emo etc, they all describe the same stuff. which term you use depends on your location or sometimes preference.
It makes me laugh that people take this shit so serious. I love this song just as much as I love some Hawthorne Heights and Motion City tracks. Emo is emo; how it sounds is relevant to time. But it's still emo. The word emotive got shortened to a canonical term for a reason. I can listen to Indian Summer and Something Corporate in the same day and tell someone I was listening to "emo". Get over it try-hards.
No, hawthorne heights and motion city aren't emo in anyway shape or form. It has nothing to do with taking things seriously or not, the facts are just the facts. They were kinda-sorta influenced by a few post emo bands, that doesn't make them emo. Musically speaking they are completely different, different song structure, writing style, playing style, everything. Calling or comparing a band like hawthorne heights to emo Is like comparing an nsx to a civic lol By all means though, please like what you like but emo is emo and alt pop rock is alt pop rock.
Alice Hernandez things change to a certain degree but emo was always (and always will be) an off shoot of mid 80's hardcore punk, it will never be the commercialized bullshit people label it today. and furthermore it was a dead genre, it didn't 'evolve' the term was hijacked. the word emo was turned into a buzz word and slapped on every whine-fest pop rock band that came out in the early 00's, doesn't mean that bullshit had anything to do with emo in the first place. bands label themselves with bullshit all of the time, for example Saosin to this day describe themselves as 'screamo' which to say the least isn't even remotely similar to what they actually play.
Calling Hawthorne Heights (lol who still thinks of that trash derivative band?) emo is unserious. Those post 2001 bands: TBS, Thursday, New Found Glory, The Used, MCR, Fallout Boy, The Starting Line, etc. those were all pop punk, maybe in some cases post hardcore, alt or pop rock. That's not being "elitist" it's just ... not this music, it sounds nothing like this music. Music from that era that is actually emo is few and far between but I could think of maybe Brand New or Further Seems Forever. Also lmao at mentioning Something Corporate? That's piano rock. What else are you going to claim is emo, The Postal Service and Death Cab? Just because something existed in the 2000s doesn't mean it was emo. You're both wrong and you're also being a dick about it.
thatguyonstage .......ok dont you mean mineral, rites of spring, fugazi, at the drive-in, and jawbreaker are first wave? Fam post-emo would be like stuff from 2003 and beyond. There's two types of emo sound---screamo and emo. That's it. There is no post-emo unlike youre referring to that scene kid music from 05 and beyond
It's cool if you want to be ignorant. Post emo was the second wave of the genre. And honestly played side by side with the first wave the differences are night and day.
AYVSO Lol how can you reject an entire genre of music as shitty (BTW I've never heard this described as post-emo)? You must not have put very much time or effort into learning to appreciate a diverse array of music.
I had friends who were super into bands like this when I was in high school. I knew that it was good music, but try as I might, I could never get past how in-touch with their feelings they were and as a positive hardcore kid, I just couldn't relate. hahahahahah!!!!!! That's hilarious!
the same happened to me xd
Careful this music will make you bi
Gonna second "mineralcore." It's like mineral and penfold have their own little slice of this genre. No other bands sound quite like them.
What si mineralcore?
So true add Appleseed cast pls
also empire! empire!
Reno Kid and Leiah also have that sort of sound.
The two bands I listen to ✊️
It's sad how a great album like this has few views
Now, this album has many views. This masterpiece will last forever.
The thing is, people into this sort of thing are usually collectors of physical music so that might be a factor in lower views here too
It took me a couple years but I got a CD copy. It is absolutely treasured. I'm still in disbelief I own a copy.
where and how, so lucky!!
you can get em on discogs bud👍👍
>Music starts playing
>Whiny white boy singing

Man, this album is awesome. I've been listening to this since I started college and it brings me back some memories of better days...

second wave emo - indiemo - midwest emo - post-emo
third wave emo - emo pop - mtvemo
TBH there is no 3rd wave. The genre died with post emo.

There's no such thing.
Everything has to end. Emo is no exception.
A trait all good music must possess.

acuras are hondas TOO man come on XD
+thatguyonstage Emo has evolved overtime, things change. But they literally are by definition emo.
Alice Hernandez things change to a certain degree but emo was always (and always will be) an off shoot of mid 80's hardcore punk, it will never be the commercialized bullshit people label it today. and furthermore it was a dead genre, it didn't 'evolve' the term was hijacked.

"Post-emo" ? Im sorry but this is what emo used to sound like.
This sound/style is 100% second wave. When I think of emo I think of bands like Anomie or Indian Summer.
thatguyonstage .......ok dont you mean mineral, rites of spring, fugazi, at the drive-in, and jawbreaker are first wave? Fam post-emo would be like stuff from 2003 and beyond. There's two types of emo sound---screamo and emo. That's it. There is no post-emo unlike youre referring to that scene kid music from 05 and beyond
I agree. "Post-emo" doesn't actually exist, the uploader is on crack, probably, and making up a genre.
It's cool if you want to be ignorant. Post emo was the second wave of the genre. And honestly played side by side with the first wave the differences are night and day.
thatguyonstage Id rather we just call this the Midwest style and the other stuff screamo
The other 2003 shit is post-"emo".
thanks for upload, but this is sucks
sucks? this is one of the best post emo records ever released smh...
>post emo
that explains it
AYVSO Lol how can you reject an entire genre of music as shitty (BTW I've never heard this described as post-emo)? You must not have put very much time or effort into learning to appreciate a diverse array of music.
Norman Trushaev Yep this would be considered post emo. Similar artists Texas Is The Reason, Mineral, Christie Front Drive, Cap'n Jazz etc
im going to start thanking people for shitty things now lol
Feels good
