NOLA is my favorite city in the US. I had the pleasure of going to Dookie Chase in 2017 and Ms. Leah was there cooking at 94yrs old and I got to eat her cooking and she allowed us to go down in the kitchen and chatted with us and she took many pictures with us. We were given the history of the restaurants and a lot of those pictures hanging in the place that she has. From the outside, we weren't impressed BUT when we stepped inside, we were all in awe of how BEAUTIFULanf ELEGANT it is. I will ALWAYS love that place and I can't wait to go back. We had the pleasure of enjoying the lunch buffet that day. I LOVE the people, the culture, the food, and their accent is EVERYTHING. I can ride that St. Charles Trolley back and forth for hours and hours after I enjoy the sites.
Thank you for this. I grew up in the projects right across the street (before it was rebuilt) and ate there often. Ms Leah was always sweet and the food was always good.
Iam from Nola, so just a tip, you will more than likely not find authentic gumbo, poboys etc at any restaurants here, you have to go into the hood and into the homes to find that good good!!!

These are foods that are well known in our city and we think it's good. If you are not from here and are not used to certain flavors/spices/seasonings just move on.
