“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” I rest in that. Piper’s assertion that faith only gets God “on our side” and that works (how many? How pure?) are required to get us into Heaven is nothing but Roman Catholicism without the hope of purgatory.
@@rebeccabooker9394 I agree that Pipers teachings about salvation are flawed. However, I do not think we should assume we know if he's saved or not. It's possible, at some point in his past, that he truly believed and put his faith in Jesus Christ. I believe he did. However, he's not perfect. And God will deal with him about his teachings either here on earth or judgement day. Just like He will deal with me on things I shouldn't have done and things I should've done. I mean, who knows, perhaps God is already chastening Piper by hardening the heart of Pipers son. Last I saw, Pipers son has fallen away and it crushes Piper. I'm not saying for sure that it's God's doing... but it's possible.

I believe repentance may be necessary, I believe we must continue believing and that we are believing and, I believe a Christian won't sin like they used to (1 John 3:6-10, 1 john 5:18) finally, i know we can't lose salvation. That said, what does free grace teach on these topics or if you can give me resources (I lean towards free grace by the way)?
The irony is that John the Beloved and the Apostle Paul wrote some of the clearest Gospel verses that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Yet, the biggest works-based preachers in the modern era are John MacArthur, John Piper, and Paul Washer.
Jesus tells us we must do more than believe, we must strive to get through the narrow gate. Luke 13:23-30 kj Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. The gate is narrow because the process is hard, and the perspective we need to see the entrance to the narrow gate comes only through the Savior, Christ Jesus. We don’t do it on our own but operate by the power of Christ, in us, so God receives all the glory. The goal of the narrow gate starts with repentance followed obedience to live a life that glorifies God. It may seem counterproductive to fight through the narrow gate of persecution and hardship by resting in Jesus. His burden is light, He promises. Putting it down all that entangles us is difficult! However, the possibility of missing our chance at eternity is extremely plausible if we clutch onto sinfull desires, lusts and pursuits of the world the wide gate.Destruction means a loss that produces utter ruin, perishing, and here refers to loss of eternal life with God.
@@2Chronicles714_ Read the passage in its proper context. The gate isn't narrow because the process is hard. The gate is narrow because few people can believe that their works has nothing to do with salvation but by the blood of Jesus. The parallel passage of Luke 13 is Matt 7. And in Matt 7:21 - 23, it says this: "21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; *but he that doeth the will of my Father* which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." What is the will of the Father? It is explicitly mentioned in John 6:40: "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and *believeth* on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." And if you go a few verses before that, Jesus was even more explicit in his answer to the Pharisees: "28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, *that ye believe on him* whom he hath sent." - John 6:28-29 The Pharisees specifically asked what must they do to work the works of God (that is to get to heaven). And Jesus said that you must believe on him whom the Father had sent. Believing is the condition. Most people trust in their works, that's why they aren't saved. Who did Jesus say he never knew? Those who were trusting their " *many wonderful works* " If you think you need to do more other than just your faith in Christ's finished work on the cross, you have not repented. The repentance is to turn from trusting in yourself and to believing on Christ alone. All religions teach you must do good works to be saved. And for as long as you think your works have merit the way you clearly do, it means you've never had faith on Christ, you haven't repented, ergo you aren't saved. Repent from your foolishness in believing your works matter in getting you to heaven. Here's something you need to reflect upon: "28 Come unto me, all ye that *labour and are heavy laden* , and *I will give you rest* . 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find *rest unto your souls* . 30 For *my yoke is easy*, and my *burden is light* ." - Matt 11: 28-30 Jesus says explicitly that his yoke is EASY, and his burden is LIGHT. Why? Because he did ALL THE WORK when he died on the cross, was buried and rose from the dead. That's his work that fulfills the requirement to be saved. All you need is to come to him with childlike faith. Believe on Him and salvation is the gift given to you. It's an easy yoke and a light burden because Jesus did ALL THE HARD WORK. What were you saying about the process being hard? You think the process is hard because you don't have faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Repent from your foolishness.
This topic in my opinion is the most important one in Christianity. Either it is faith alone or its faith plus works. There is no in-between one position is a lie. I am beginning to suspect that the likes of Piper, MacArthur, Washer et al are the real wolves in sheep's clothing.
I think the reason they are diverting the conversation/message to works is because they don’t truly believe Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God and that they will have eternal life simply by believing through faith.
Yeah john say you mauch keep his commandments if you belive in the son of Jesus. You conveniently left all the thing listed and the requirement of those who love God.
@@jesusp4620 all I can say is how Jesus says it. "Deny yourself and follow Jesus" he also says " strive to enter the narrow gate for many seek and few will find" we know aethiest aren't seeking the narrow road, only believers. This tells me it isn't easy believism because many people would enter if that were the case. He says many who call him Lord Lord will not get in heaven ( Matthew 7 21) . We know these are christans since it says they did many miracles in his name but we're still rejected. He tells them depart Because of their Iniquity. One must be born again
Matrix means mother's WOMB. Humans are made of EARTH. Formation of DNA means a SOUL is born. The SEED war in Gen3:15 is the SPIRIT war. SEED+EARTH= new identity in God's Image or in the Serpent's Image. Like a woman travailing in birth.
@NikoR96 Bible says don’t be deceived you are righteous if you do what is righteous. Christ can make you righteous , but that’s by Him changing you into someone who does what is righteous . Jesus will render everyone according to their deeds. You are No exception , so be righteous by faith and do what is righteous by imitating Christ
The righteous will be judged according to their good works and the unrighteous will be judged according to their evil works. Believers are justified the moment they come to faith in Christ and who He Is and what He accomplished to justify us. The sanctification process does not save anyone IT IS ONLY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST. The fruit of the Spirit is the result of being saved. The fruit of the Spirit does not justify or save. Jesus did ALL THE WORK.
People are attracted to pride and self righteousness, there they REFUSE to believe that salvation is by grace through faith ALONE, and not by works, it is the gift of God, lest any man should boast. People wanna feel the pride and the self righteousness of saying " I will be saved because I was such a good person"
Faith enables us for good works, changes our perspectives, attitudes and responses towards ourselves, others and life itself. Faith changes us inwardly as we abide in him, then we are enabled for good works as we renew our minds daily. As we come to Him and abide in Him, God works through us as He alone transforms us.

Obedience is required by God. The false church denies the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from sin. False ministers deny the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us to righteousness. They teach that the spirit will struggle with the flesh until we die, and that there is no remedy for this condition. In truth, we do not have both the Holy Spirit and the flesh nature. We only have one or the other. Jesus wins the battle for us when we are Born Again. Scripture says: Colossians 2:11 "In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ." Jesus cuts away the flesh when we receive the Holy Spirit, and we lose sinful desires. The Apostle Paul tells us this: Galatians 5:24 "And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." We dont have both the Holy Spirit and the flesh nature. Scripture tells us so: Romans 8:9 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you." Everyone who dies while still in their flesh has not been born again. Scripture tells us that sinning Christians are guaranteed to end up in hell: Romans 8:13 "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." God only gives the Holy Spirit to those who are obedient. Scripture tells us so: Acts 5:32 "We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” The Apostle John who was taught by Jesus face to face agrees with these things. 1 John 3:9 "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." God’s grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin. ◄ Jude 1:24 says: "To him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (sin) and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy- Romans 6:18 also says: "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness."
This is how we know that satan and doctrines of devils are at work during the end times....trying to pervert the glorious gospel of grace. Lord, give us the strength and courage to continue to contend for the faith. We cannot pervert the pure Gospel of Grace
James 2:24, “you see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” ESV Piper is simply saying that works are not needed to bring us into a saving relationship with God, but the faith that truly brings us into that relationship will produce good works and if it doesn’t it’s not a saving faith and we won’t get to heaven. Ie works are necessary to get to heaven as they evidence the faith that truly brings us into connection with Christs saving work. It’s not confused. It’s what the NT teaches. See also Matt 7:21-27; 25:31-46; John 5:28-29, 15:2-5; Rom. 2:6-7; 8:13, 17; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:6, 6:7-8; Heb. 12:14; 1 John 3:8-10; Ephesians 5:3-6; Rev. 2:26-27, 20:11-21:8.
Of course the huge problem with that is that God is the judge, not man, so i ges if piper wants to look at someone's life and declare them saved or not based on the " evidence of works" he can take a wild gess at it. But to say that works are necessary for final salvation as evidence is still adding works because they would have to be presented to God, not man.
Here’s Piper giving a full explanation. ua-cam.com/video/8dh4Ifb4vCY/v-deo.html Now let’s be clear... Piper doesn’t teach that you can lose your salvation, what he teaches is that justification and final salvation are two different things. What he teaches unfortunately results in endless fruit sniffing. In short, his idea is that if you don’t have the works then you were never saved to begin with. In other words, If you have “saving faith” then you WILL have the works. If you DONT have the works (and we are all watching) then you never had a true conversion. I’m trying to think of a different term than “damnable heresy” for this but one isn’t coming to mind right now. Now this teaching doesn’t send anyone to hell, I think, because nobody was saved by Reformed thought, but rather Christians are lost to it. And what I mean is that they come to Christ and then they fall into weird little thought labyrinths and they get lost in them and become mostly useless. “You’re anti works!” No.. I love good works. I think a believer who has grown in love with the Lord will also love good works. Even in 1John2 John says a person who lacks these things walks I darkness, and right after he says “you are forgiven (children) and you have known Him (father’s) and you are strong in the word (young men) and then even goes on to say “don’t love the world (system) because if you do love the world (system) that love of the Father is not in you. What? Not saved? No... he didn’t say not saved. He JUST SAID they were saved but the warning was lacking LOVE. if anything John and Paul are totally convinced of the SECURITY of the people they are writing to. Insomuch that Paul even tells them to look at themselves to see if they are in the faith in order to prove Paul’s genuine apostleship. These other ideas though try to rob us of our assurance of what IS true. A baby in Christ is carnal, the exhortation is to KNOW God deeply and grow in maturity in HIM, not to get all twisted in stupid philosophical knots and gazing at your own naval saying, “I think I’m saved? Maybe? Gosh...” every day.
Man y’all makin this way!! Too complicated… and I question if you guys understand faith, and repentance… my mans said some people’s fruit means going from beating your wife once every 3 years…now what I will say is we are dealing with extremities here… because while that could possibly be true I have to question if this person understands repentance… is this a repentance because of brokenness of sin.. does this person feel awful when they do such an evil thing… is there a sorrow when they do such a thing… or have they just kinda slowed down just for the sake of just trying to do a little better… are they now sensitive to the sins they commit and if they were to beat their girlfriend God will come on convict them and discipline them? Is their repentance a genuine repentance that makes them feel a deep sorrow? Or is their thinking just simply “ well let me not beat my girlfriend as much, but she deserves it so I’ll slow down but I won’t stop” … if it’s the latter than you should be careful because your idea of being saved may be off… are you a new creature, who hates sin now? Or are you just trying to slow down on sinning but still set certain days out of the year where you’ll still make sure you enjoy sin… like once a month I’m gonna enjoy cheating on my wife and then the rest of the month I’ll be a good person
@@Muzicboy3 People take a low view of the law and think they can somehow attain obedience to it. God demanded perfection. We can't be good in one area and bad or kind of bad in another. We must live it 100%, and remember if you break one law you are guilty of breaking them all. I am the biggest sinner I know. I know my own heart, the hidden sins, the judgemental thoughts and attitudes..it is sickening! God said sell everything you own and give the money to the poor, he didn't say just pinch off a few dollars. Love thy neighbor as thyself - who keeps this one??? Before judging someone's fruit, question your own obedience to God's law. Fruit is different for everyone, maybe someone cussed like a sailor and now they don't, maybe someone had a bad attitude but God is slowly changing them. There are people in this world that were severely abused and traumatized as a child and maybe they are not grasping change as fast as others. If you take the time to really look at your own heart, you will be in despair because you know that you don't measure up! Thanks be to God he sent his son who was obedient to the law! We have his righteousness and his goodness because ours is like filthy rags! I don't have time to question the fruit or motives of someone else because I am too aware of my own depravity! Even our good works should be repented of because even those are about us, at the core they makes us feel good and super spiritual. Apart from Christ we are nothing! He replaces our badness with his goodness. Yes, we hate sin, but we will struggle with it until we leave here.Salavtion is easy enough for an illiterate man on the backside of a mountain to understand. Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I work around atheists and progressives that would NEVER call on the name of the Lord, those are the ones that are lost. You can not call on the name of the Lord unless God himself put it in your heart to do so! Take a low view of man and a high view of the law and work towards accepting the grace God offers to sinners just like everyone of us!
The teaching that sinners are "Justified" by "faith alone", in an UNBIBLICAL HERESY! Jesus' first words in the Gospel of Mark, are, " and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (1:15). Note, REPENT from your sins, and FAITH. At the end of His Ministry on earth, Jesus says clearly "and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem" (Luke 24:47. Original reading) Peter's first sermon in Acts chapter 2 says, that when those who heard him, and were "cut to the heart (convicted by the Holy Spirit, see also John 16:8-10)", they said "what must we DO". Peter does not say, "DO nothing", instead, "“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (verses 37-38). REPENT for the FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS" in 2 Corinthians 7:10, Paul says, "For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death" There is NO salvation that does not include REPENTANCE BEFORE the sinner is saved
Arminianism and Calvinism are twin brothers whereby, salvation depends on us. Salvation by grace through faith is scriptural and is all of God apart from any works on our part, giving God all the glory. In believing on the Lord Jesus Christ alone having left whatever we have been trusting in for salvation and receiving the gift of eternal life.
@NikoR96 lol, no im not an atheist. If you are you referring to regeneration before believing than you couldn't be more wrong. Such an unscriptural false doctrine.
@NikoR96 well then if that's true as you say then atheist can't not steal atheist can't not murder atheists can't not covet things they're unable to stop from adultery in any of the ten commandments so they can't love God with all their heart come to think of it I don't know many Christians that even love God with all their heart it's like the ten commandments is designed to show us our sin.hmmmmm
There isn't a single person in the world he hasn't done 1 work. Just saying a prayer is work. But it doesn't matter if they have a million or 0 works, we are saved by faith alone.
He's simply saying if you have trusted christ for salvation there will be evidence of your salvation jesus said some will produce 30, 60, 90 fold. Professing and possessing are totally different. Its the james 2 argurment. Yes he could do a better job clarifying his statement but you can't just cherry pick his qoutes and take them to mean this or that without putting all his qoutes and explanation together.
@@steenystuff1075 No i totally get and understand the good news. You apparently think that christ saved us so we could remain in our sins instead of set us free from our sin and empower us with the HS to overcome are sin in the sanctification process which is on going.
@Infinite Adriannn Well of course not. But i don't excuse it either. Sanctification is on going and will be till i go home. But plz don't tell me you can sin all you want and cuz you believe in jesus you have eternal life. Show me that scripture for i most of missed that one.
@Infinite Adriannn Lol...i love how you mis quote me and say what i didn't say. I said can you sin all you want and just live the way you want and go to heaven. Tell the demons believe are they heaven bound? What marks a christian different from a non believer?. Is it they just believe? Look how the disciples life changed after pentecost how they preached grace by faith alone but also followed up with our life style change. You skipped over all the commands to live a holy life and being a new creature in christ. I could list 50 scriptures showing were to live holy lifes now that we have the holy spirit to enable us. Shall we sin so grace can abound . NO..
Amen Brothers. If we could be saved by works, then Jesus died in vain. We can only be saved by grace. Romans11:6 and Romans 4:5. We are born again when we believe the gospel of our salvation. That our sin debt has been paid in full. First Corinthians 15:1-4. When we believe that gospel, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13 and 4:30. John 10:28-29. Double eternal security. If Jesus had not paid for all our sin, (First John 2:2), no one could be saved. But He did pay for all our sin so he will no longer impute sin to our account. Romans 4:6-8 He imputes His righteousness to us, and will not more impute sin to our account. We have eternal life because of what He did, not by what we do. Our works. Christ died for our sins. 5 words. 5 is grace. It is what he did for us that we could have never do for our self. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. It is free. AMAZING GRACE, Not amazing works. Ephesians 2:8-9 They read that verse, but they do not believe it. Just like John 3:16 People read that verse, but they do not believe it. If they believed it they would know they have eternal life. Based on the finished work of Christ, not on what we do. Thank God for grace, I need it every day. First John 5:13. Hebrews 13:5 He will never leave us or forsake us. That is good news.
Worthy Brief - May 27, 2020 break forth! Micah 2:13 The breaker is goes up before them: they will break out, pass through the gate, and go out by it. So their king shall pass before them, with the LORD at their head. An ancient Hebrew commentator wrote of this verse, "In the words of our teachers of blessed memory and in the Midrash [ancient Hebrew commentaries of the O.T.], it is taught that the 'breaker' is Elijah and 'their King' is the branch of the son of David." As I read this commentary, I was blown away by the interpretation of this scripture by ancient Hebrew scholars! The Jewish people were clearly expecting a prophet like Elijah who would call the people back to repentance, and, afterward, the branch, the son of David, who would bring peace and freedom to his people. The fulfillment of these expectations began 2000 years ago with John the Baptist, whose prophetic ministry prepared the entire nation through repentance for the coming Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus), whose death and resurrection brought peace with God and freedom from sin, which laid the spiritual foundation for His coming Kingdom. While the physical reign of the Messiah/King on Earth is yet future, and will begin when He returns, for the past 2000 years the Kingdom of heaven has been breaking forth in the hearts of men, and every true believer is breaking out with it. This wonderful message, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand", hasn't changed since the Lord first proclaimed it in Galilee [Mark 1:14]! The word "repent", is "metanoia" in Greek, which means to "change one's mind for the better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins." the message of repentance remains central to the breaking forth of God's Kingdom! Through it Yeshua brought peace and freedom - and without it there can be no true faith or spiritual life; so let's stay focused, always remembering that this gospel of the Kingdom always begins with repentance from sin, continues in faith toward God, and results in freedom and peace. With so many who have still not heard it, let's proclaim it because there's so much work to be done!
Hang on a second. You say Piper is saying the other conditions are "works". You've got the book in your hands. He surely must explain what the other conditions are. What are they?
If "sola fide" is not the sole condition, then what could these additional conditions ever be if not something other than faith? And if something isn't faith, what's left?
That is just it. He does not say what the conditions are. First he says it is by faith alone, Romans 4:5 John 6:47. then he says it is not by faith alone, their are conditions. He is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Romans 4:5 Faith alone apart from works. Romans 11:6 John 3:18 and a host of other bible verses. Believe for the free gift of eternal life. John 6:40. Should we do good works? Yes, But good works are for rewards in heaven for believers. First Corinthians 3:11-21 Not to save us. Good works never saved one person. If they did, then Jesus died in vain. Galatians 2:21. Romans 3:26-28
@@jimkraft9445 The conditions for salvation are faith in Christ + that you buy Piper's many books, introduce them to your friends, buy his pal's arguments (Rick Warren, Beth Moore, Lausanne Ecumenicalism) and try hard to understand his subtle statements where he usually mixes orthodox ideas with heresy sounding and confusing theological lingo. Just kidding.
Perhaps his idea is just faith without works is dead ? Those works are absolutely necessary to prove that the faith is a genuine faith but those works don't actually contribute to the salvation.. They validate it. "You will know them by their fruit" kind of thing? "If you love me keep my commands" kind of thing? If the fruit isn't present, if there are no works, and if there is no keeping of commandments it demonstrates that the faith is not a true faith and thus you will not attain heaven. I think it's the idea that "we are saved by faith alone but faith does not stay alone" God *will* bring about fruit in those who have genuine faith. So is that fruit and commandment keeping and works necessary for salvation? Not in terms of contributing to it but yes in terms of validating it (from a human perspective, of course the Holy Spirit is our seal). If you have faith you will necessarily bear fruit. I think that's what Piper is going for; perhaps it is phrased weirdly because they aren't really conditions they're necessary products, but I can see where you are coming from and where you could see it the way you are.
As Christians we must have discernment and wisdom as not to be confused with those who want to led us astray. I listen to John piper a lots but always testing what he say with the Word of God. He is very faithful with the word of God. A faith that led to salvation will result in works. We are not saved by the "works" but salvation will always result in pleasing God.
Totally false. Matthew 7:21-23 Those who trust in their works are not saved. Only those that have done the will of His Father in heaven. John 6:40. Romans 4:2 . If Abraham were justified by works, he would have something to glory in, but not before God. We can justify ourselves before men by good works, but not before God. Romans 11:6 Ephesians 2:8-9. You can not boast in free. Romans 6:23 Romans 4:5. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Faith alone in Christ alone apart from any works.
@@jimkraft9445 "Oh foolish one, don't you know that faith without works is dead" James says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26)Faith without works is a dead faith because the lack of works reveals an unchanged life or a spiritually dead heart. There are many verses that say that true saving faith will result in a transformed life, that faith is demonstrated by the works we do. How we live reveals what we believe and whether the faith we profess to have is a living faith. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Note, "WORK" does NOT earn us salvation. But salvation earns us life which result in works. Jesus said, "we will recognize them by their fruits" Matthew 7:16). Do not take someone else's words for it. Read the bible and pray for right understanding.
Not so. Romans 4:2 If Abraham were justified by works, he would have something to glory in, but not before God. We can justify our selves before men by good works, but not before God. We can only be justified by faith apart from works. Our works can not save us. Only Jesus finished work on the cross can save sinners which we all are. First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. The second we believe that gospel, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13-14 and Ephesians 4:30. He gives us eternal life the second we believe on Jesus alone plus nothing, because nothing else can save sinners except what He did. John 6:47 John 3:18 and First John 5:13. Faith alone. Romans 4:5-8 Faith alone apart from any works. John 6:40
Was the thief on the cross saved by faith alone, or by works? How many works do you have to do? I took out the trash yesterday, did that save me? In Matthew 7:15-23 Jesus was talking about wolves in sheep's clothing, that come in and preach a false gospel of works salvation They called him lord, and did many wonderful works, but never did the will of His Father in heaven. John 6:40 and John 6:29 They trusted in what they did to save themselves by keeping the law and doing good works. Those are good things to do , but can not save a sinner. We can only be saved by what Jesus did for us, not by anything we do. Sinners can not pay their own debt.
Perhaps what needs to be clarified is, saved by faith but a faith that is not alone, never alone. True regeneration = true faith = producing works, fruits. Producing the works and the fruits is a part of sanctification.
@@leod5609 Ah.. the Ol' what about James 2 objection. I love that verse. "But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works."Where exactly does it say that faith is never alone? It doesn't. It says he shows his faith by his works. In fact the book of James was written to believers. James considers them "brethren" verse 1:2. He's imploring already saved people to put their faith into practice. He's imploring them to have a faith that is alive and active, not dead and inactive. One that is beneficial to our fellow man. Our works justify us before other men/women. Not before God.If believing that Jesus is the Christ guaranteed perpetual good works, James 2:18 wouldn't even make sense.
@@garyleemusic and that's what I meant by it. It's also a fruit of salvation, that the Saint is sanctified and he bears fruit. Visible signs that he is in ongoing sanctification. Becoming Christlike. Is the Saint without sin? No, never will he be without sin on this side of the world, but there will be visible progress. It is important we make the distinction that salvation is never by works, but someone who is truly saved will display those spiritual attributes. Behold, he is a new creation, the old has passed.
@@leod5609great! You didn't provide any explanation so I didn't know what you meant by just posting a verse. I actually agree with you for the most part. I just don't think we are in a position to judge someone's works as evidence of what they believe. Sanctification looks different for each person. And we shouldn't look inward at our own works to know if we are saved. We should look at the promise of Jesus that the believer will never perish and has eternal life. God bless!
James 2 :“ 17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” “19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ” “26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
Good thought provoking comments but think again. One cannot read the Bible selectively and draw these simplistic conclusions. Piper clearly says that salvation is by nothing other than by faith alone - sola fidè. However: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV Paul writes that we are created for good works that result from faith and confirm our purpose (not the other way round). Too many people say they’re saved to righteousness yet does their life display any fruit of salvation? “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, “and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” 2 Peter 1:5-10 ESV Nothing teaches us better than the word of God - sola scriptura. The apostle Peter states our faith is supplemented by these seven traits. All God requires of us is obedience, which begins with our salvation by grace alone. It clearly does not stop there. We’re not “helping God out” by being obedient to His instruction. We’re doing His will.

Me being new to Christianity after hearing some of John Piper it made me feel unsure and depressed and that made me think that if I'm just fooling myself and I'm not really saved I might as well just jump head first back into my sin
Don't do that brother. Trust Jesus and read your bible slowly. RC Sproul is also an encouragement to me. He died but there are lots of vidoes on UA-cam by RC Sproul.
FGT doesn’t accurately reflect the Reformation teaching of justification by faith alone, which was often summarized in the formula “We are justified by faith alone, but the faith that justifies is never alone” (26). Translation: even though faith is the only human act God responds to in justification (it’s alone in that sense), faith never exists alone in the believer since it always brings with it certain other graces. Grudem’s survey of Protestant confessions spanning five centuries amply demonstrates that this formula represents the pan-Protestant understanding of faith alone (26-30). That this formula stands squarely at odds with FGT teaching is confirmed by the fact some openly reject the formula as an illogical cliché (34-35).
False. Romans 4:5 Justification is by faith alone because we can not save our selves by works. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputeth righteousness apart from works. Blessed is the man whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. John 3:18 Romans 11:6 ALL GRACE, NO WORKS. Romans 4:2. Faith alone apart from works. If you add one work, then it is all works and no grace. Oil and water. Law/works can not mix with grace. And we can not be saved by any works. Jesus plus nothing is salvation by grace.
“Saved by faith alone but that faith is never alone” is not a biblical statement nor is it accurate. There can and will be people who trust by faith in heaven with nothing to show for it. All their works burn up They themselves will be saved, but it will be like escaping fire. Unless Paul the apostle was lying, which he wasn’t Any attempt to qualify faith with works in anathema
I don't know about FGT, but I do know about the Reformation. In the Reformation view, Piper does err because if the issue is definitional, he wrongly separates what comprises saving faith from faith itself. For instance, in my view, true saving faith cannot be alone because it is defined by being, in part, something that necessarily leads to goods works, by definition. Another part of the definition of saving faith is that it is lasting faith (I John 2:19, Matt. 24:13, Hebrews 3:6, 14 -- Hebrews 3:6, 14 are the most powerful), so the argument that one can lose their salvation is debunked by definition. SO, for Piper to say that one can be made right with God through faith, that being right with God means the faith is salvific and therefore encompasses all the attributes of a saving faith already, as the issue is definitional, and therefore he cannot then say it (saving faith) is not enough and must be supported by other things, because those things he supposes should by definition be within the faith that makes one right with God (otherwise it would not sufficiently make one right with God in any sense).
Faith alone isn't a condition. Salvation is by grace through faith, not of us, but the free gift of God, so that none can boast. If faith is a condition then man can boast in his faith, but if faith is God given, then where can we boast.
Romans 3:19 - Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Romans 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:21 - But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Romans 3:22 - Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:24 - Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Romans 3:25 - Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Romans 3:26 - To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Romans 3:27 - Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Romans 3:28 - Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
What "KIND" of faith saves? What "KIND" of "WORKS OF THE LAW" condemn. We MUST define "Faith" according to scripture, which is NOT "Belief" alone. ie. "Even the demons believe". So, if faith is NOT MEARLY belief, than it MUST BE ACTIVE. In my assessment, this entire argument could be solved if we could simply see that Paul is making a SPECIFIC ARGUMENT about the "Works of the Law" which he always defines as circumcision and various OT Law rituals, but he is NOT talking about the moral law of walking by the Spirit. "Unless your righteousness exceeds the scribes and Pharisees you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven" -Jesus. This debate is so convoluted because we fail to understand the primary distinctions of "works of the law" vs obedient faith or walking in faith, or abiding in Christ, or setting our mind on the things of the Spirit. Of COURSE we "work" in our faith, but we MUST MUST MUST define the "work". If the word "work" makes you uncomfortable, just say, "action" or "obedience". Honestly, we shoot ourselves in the foot when we use the term "faith alone" because IN FACT the ONLY time the term "faith alone" is used is in the negative sense. James 2:24 "You see that a person is considered righteous by WHAT THEY DO and NOT by FAITH ALONE. This point is obvious and scriptural. The only way to confuse this issue is to misunderstand Paul. As I already stated, Paul is ONLY talking about the "Works of the law" NAMELY: circumcision, sacrifice and external rituals. Of course he is not talking about obedience (a type of "work" or activity) to Christ. What would you say then to Galatians 3:10 "For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse..."? So, if one tries to obey Jesus in the perfect law of love (Gal. 5:14, Romans 13:8) they are under a curse? Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Finally, I'll leave you with 2 Peter 3:14-16 "So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, MAKE EVERY EFFORT [What kind of effort? is that "works of the law"] to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain SOME THINGS THAT ARE HARD TO UNDERSTAND, which IGNORANT AND UNSTABLE people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Good stuff Zachary. I agree they have fundamentally missed the point of what faith is. Just like they do with repentance, eternal life, the New Covenant, etc.

Gentlemen, have you examined John Piper's other works to clarify what he is saying? He is stating that works are evidence of salvation. If the evidence is not present, the salvation of the individual is in question. As you repeat, the "conditions," these are works which are evidence of salvation. If you were being objective about this you would examine other works of Piper to clarify. Or perhaps it your intent to simply discredit the reformer. Let me finish with this, whether you are a reformer or follow another camp of theology, theology doesn't save anyone, Christ does. How much time do you spend sharing the gospel in contrast to how much time you spend trying to discredit other believers.
why spend time on this? b/c its an issue of salvation. One is the Gospel and the other is not. Lots of people confused in churches and some not hearing the true Gospel at all anymore. Its not an issue where one can agree to disagree.

The bible said faith without work is dead, in short faith that led to salvation will result in works. We Christian know that a person who is truly saved will have a desire, a desire to please God. Pleasing Him is not how we gain salvation but the result of salvation. My only problem with piper is that: he holds hands with too many false teachers but His teachings are biblical.
There is no difference between Calvinism and Arminianism in all practical sense. The only difference is philosophical. Calvinism puts regeneration before faith, Arminianism has regeneration after faith. Calvinism says that regeneration will cause enduring faith and good works, Arminianism says that those depend on human effort. Calvinism says that salvation is irresistible and will persevere, Arminianism says that it requires consent and can be lost. But in practice both require practicing faith and good works, and persevering in both unto the end to be saved or stay saved, and you can't really be sure of it until after death. The real Gospel is that you can be sure that when you believe in Christ for justification and eternal life, then you are saved and have eternal life, with no ifs or buts attached!
I agree that justification is by faith alone. But what does the writer of Hebrews mean when he says, "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14 NIV.
Sorry, but I think you guys miss Piper’s point (and misrepresent him). He finds his argument in James 2 - Faith without works is dead. He started the whole section arguing from that point.

Faith alone is not the way to heaven. Scripture says Repent and believe. Jesus said we must repent from sin and believe. You can't (have faith) claim to believe in Christ if you reject repenting of sin. 2 Corinthians 7:10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. Luke 3:8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing.
If your have been persuaded that you can be saved by a faith that does not accompany works, then you are deceived. James makes clear that such faith cannot save anyone. If "Reformed" people would spend more time reading their Bibles instead of each others commentaries, it wouldn't be such a hard pill to swallow to understand that good works are necessary for final salvation. Listen to the criticism in this video. They say, "It doesn't sound like Calvinism. It sounds like Arminianism." No matter that Piper sounds JUST LIKE Paul and Jesus. Paul: (Romans 6:22) But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. Let me simply exegete Paul here: Justification > Set free from sin > Become slaves of God > Fruit you get > sanctification > eternal life if this salvation is achieved by power of the indwelling Spirit of God, then it should not be thought of as works of the law achieved in the power of the flesh, done to merit eternal life. Rather, this salvation is made possible by the power of the Holy Spirit, putting do death the deeds of the body and dying to self, becoming united to Jesus, and being raised to walk in newness of life. Yes, this newness of life is necessary for final salvation. If you live according to the flesh you will die, but if you by the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body you will live.
The central question is, if we are saved by faith alone, why repent ? Repentance is an act of obedience we choose to do in order to be saved. It isn't just a change of mind towards God but a willingness to obey God. Repentance is incomplete unless it is demonstrated by the believer being water baptized. The protestant definition of the word " works" is that it is something that we do in order to somehow earn salvation. Do you have to obey God in order to be saved ? Having faith isn't an act of obedience because the Word says that our faith comes about because of our recieving the seed of the Word. Now we must respond to it one way or another, to refuse to turn from our life of sin or choose to obey God. The protestant author Tozier wrote concerning protestantism, " In our zeal to escape the saved by works of the catholics we have committed the opposite error of faith without obedience".
I see there are quite a few people on here that don’t know what a work is. A work is anything you do that you think will, along with or without faith, get you into Heaven. Being baptized, feeding the hungry, nursing the sick, keeping the church nursery for 10 year, teaching Sunday School, doing church sacraments, charity work, any little sacrifice of your time or money that you believe pleases God enough to let you in. Beware!! Every denomination requires some kind of work from you. There may be some here that don’t know the gospel, “ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” l Corinthians 15: 1-4
dime droppin Thank you for your question. Let me start at the beginning. Verse 1. Paul preached the gospel to the Corinthian people and they received it and were committed to it. 2. Those who heard it and believed it were saved by it, keeping in mind what he preached to them...unless they had not believed any of what he said and were not saved...or believed in vain. In vain means fruitless, not successful or counterproductive. Does that answer your question? If not let me know, or if you have any other questions l will happy to help you.
Such a thought provoking discussion. The gym analogy was good, but I see it this way. The membership IS free. But you must DO the work IN the free gym in order to receive the changed body. Doing the work is the evidence that you USE the free membership instead of just carrying the membership card. The moment I became a Christian, and believed that Christ died for me, I stepped into faith and received my salvation. But the MOMENT I activated my heart faith in Christ, I changed my ways and acted in accordance to my faith. That’s how I took the “gym membership” and did something with it.

Pretty arrogant huh? I repent. Thank God for grace. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures.

I think everyone here can agree we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. But this I ask, are we judged by our faith or by our works? Can anyone point me to a verse that says we will be judged that day by our faith apart from our works? And if we are judged by our works then why condemn those who believe we ought to obey Christ and practice righteousness? As it is written 1 John 2:29 if you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who doeth righteousness is born of him. Should we also ignore James 2:21-24? Or hebrews 5:9? Or Titus 3:14? Why are you willingly ignorant that by faith we pursue the righteousness of God that we might be found in Christ. We do not pursue our own righteousness but we seek to obey our Lord Jesus Christ. He who began a good work in us will complete it because we obey Him. Why do you think you grace is a license to daily fail him and be in right relationship when grace itself teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lust Titus 2:11-13? How can you preach to sinners that their sin separates them from God but yet continue in your own sins saying there is grace because I believe. Will not your own sin separate you from God or is Christ therefore the mediator of sin that we should continue in sin that grace may abound? If anyone would argue, argue with Jesus in Matthew 25
Anyone who says you can only attain ultimate glorification by faith plus any kind of work is saying Christ's payment on the cross was insufficient. That is heresy! Piper holds fast to the approach of including NT discipleship requirements as necessary for and evidence of salvation. GES holds fast to separating these two. I’d appreciate a discussion on why these respected men can get this so wrong. How did they come by this way of thinking? Are they saved without assurance or saved at all?
Total misunderstanding of Piper's words. His point is to contrast a "dead faith" which has no works with a true saving faith that results in good works (Eph. 2:8-10). He begins his forward by quoting James 2 which sets the context for his later comments. He emphasizes being right with God by faith alone above attaining heaven because that is what is necessary to attaining heaven. In other words, in order to live in fellowship with our Holy God forever in heaven, we must be justified first by faith and then also be sanctified (Hebrews 12:14--"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord"). These are both by faith, but the latter also involves Holy Spirit empowered effort on our part (Philippians 2:12-13). This is a very serious and dangerous charge you are making and it is unfounded.
Amen Brothers. Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth in him who justiifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Jesus paid it all, not just part. If it was not a free gift no sinner could be saved. A sinner can not redeem himself, but thank God we have a savior who paid our sin debt in full, so we can never be condemned again. John 3:18. Romans 11:6 Ephesians 2:8-9 Since Jesus paid it all I have nothing to boast in. I did nothing for it but believe He did it for me. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life. You can not boast in free. If I could do one thing, that would save me, then Jesus died in vain. If there were conditions, I could not meet them in my condition. I am a sinner. First John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we are deceived and the TRUTH is not in us. First John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doeth not commit sin, For HIS SEED, remaineth in him, and HE can not sin because He is born of God. Ephesians 1:13-14 and Ephesians 4:30. If you add one work to grace, it is no more grace, but all works. And no one ever got saved by works. Matthew 7:21-23
I think there's a mistake in this book. Piper could give a more clear explanation of what he was trying to say here. But anyways, Salvation is by Faith alone, but when one Truly Believes in Christ, they DO BEAR fruits of salvation/ conversion AS A RESULT (not as a pre-requisite) of a True conversion. Repentance is necessary for salvation. However, Repentance IS NOT what saves us. Because, we cannot truly Believe in Christ, unless we Repent. (Luke 13:3 & 5) "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Just like one needs to believe in Jesus for Salvation, but that does not mean that Faith is what saves us, it is CHRIST that saves us not Faith. And this is why it doesn't matter how big or small your Faith is, even if it's small as a Mustard Seed.
@@dillxn554 what did Paul mean in Acts 26:20 when he said to repent and do Works befitting repentance? See also Matthew 3:8, Luke 3:8. She also Jeremiah 18:11, 35:15; Isaiah 55:6 & 7. True repentance is going to look like something, just like genuine faith. Look at Hebrews 11 and see there was an outward witness of an inward reality! They were given a promise, just like we are, and there lives reflected their ongoing faith in the promise. Jesus said, my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they FOLLOW Me! Not a one step, one-and-done, but continue to follow me, and that's going to look like something
@@philhall7570 Hi Phil. I definitely can see from a non-technical point of view the obvious need for repentance. And sidestepping the discussion on whether or not it is required for salvation, I know that for me personally I want to repent. I try to repent. My issue is that I still sin every day. How can one say they have forsaken their evil way if they continue to commit evil every day? And if we are saved only if we repent, what is the standard for how good one's repentance must be? How can I know I have sufficiently repented in order to receive eternal salvation? If it is based on belief in Christ, then I feel confident I am saved. I think of John 11:25-26 "Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”" In a very childlike way I know I can say "I believe, Lord, I believe" I've read and appreciate the scriptures you brought up. I can only ask and hope that you trust that my intentions are sincere. Thank you for your time and help, Phil.
I gave you a thumbs up. The only thing I would add Ephesians 2:8 says for by grace you have been saved through faith. Faith is how we appropriate God's grace initially and ongoingly. I am justified and reconciled to God through faith, and I continue to grow in holiness and love through faith." "Therefore being justified BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in Hope of the glory of God." Rom. 5:1,2 For it the first fruit is Holy, the lump is also holy, and if the root is Holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, we're grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the Olive Tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." Well said because of unbelief they were broken off and you STAND BY FAITH. Do not be haughty but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore, consider the goodness and severity of God, on those who fell, severity, but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. Romans 11:14-22 And when they had preached the gospel to that City and MADE many DISCIPLES, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening The souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, we must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God. So when they had appointed elders in every Church and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Acts 14:21-23 You come in by faith( become a disciple), and you continue by faith. God justifies and reconciles us when we repent and believe the gospel and now as a disciple, or follower of Christ, He will continue to give me Grace to escape the coming Wrath as I continue to trust Him. see Romans 5:9,10; 1st Thessalonians 1:10; Hebrews 7 :11-15; Hebrews 10:35-39; Matthew 24: 12, 13 You therefore, beloved, since you know this before hand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever, amen. 2nd Peter 3:17, 18
Thanks for this information. Dr Piper does not only reflect his “Lordship salvation” in that foreword but also in some other books he wrote in connection with explaining Matthew 7:21-23. And by the way, classic Arminianism does not teach salvation by works. They are those who adhere to semi-Pelagianism.
Thank you two for preaching the true gospel of salvation by grace. So many are deceived believing they are saved by keeping the law and doing good works. Matthew 7:21-23. True believers know they are saved by what Jesus did for us, not by what we do or do not do to save us by works. We do what we do because we are saved, they do what they do to earn salvation by works. They are deceived. No one has ever earned heaven. We all deserve to go to hell. But, Jesus loved us so much that He made a way of salvation by faith, that if we believe He paid our sin debt in full by His blood sacrifice for all sin, we have eternal life, and can never be cast out. John 6:37. The Gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. If you believe He did it for you, you are saved and given the free gift of salvation and the Holy Spirit who is our righteousness before God. Romans 4:6-8. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know ye have eternal life. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. Second Timothy 2:19. The Lord knows us because we have His Spirit in us because we have believed.
If I was setting things up, I'd make it just like Piper suggests. I'd have an app available for those who want to know their account balances with suggestions on how to improve their scores.
I've listened to Piper many times he never preaches works salvation. According to Bob following the new testament teaching on the laws if Christ is works. Perhaps they should explain what following Jesus as Shepherd means.
Pipers “Q and A” sessions are chock full of worksy inconsistencies. I’ve listened to a lot of them. He’s a passionate, hand wringing prophet of confusion. Sorry.
◾because Abraham *obeyed* My Voice, and kept My mandate, My commands, My statutes, and My torah. Gen 26^5 ◾By faith, Abraham when he was called, *obeyed to go forth* to a place he was about to receive ... Heb 11^8
You cant read until the interesting"He surely has to preach workrightoussness salbation part". This is a badly discussion. Where is the context the following sentence to understand what he means. I dont listen to piper realls but this analysis is just bad. Subjective and not objective. Full content and don't just break up at a point Where you feel comfortable. The fear of god could produce good food as well but who cares..
It's interesting that you don't read the next couple of sentences in that forward. There's a lot of misrepresentation in this video, and it's hard not to see it as intentional since it's so easy to find Piper's full thoughts on this subject.
the work there is to show love to you neighbour on earth. Live a Christ like life on earth by carrying your cross daily. Salvation is not a free ride by just saying sinner prayer and believing the message. Read James 2:17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. NLT
I also have major problems with Piper, this being the thing that he literally said that confirms what it seemed he was already teaching. That said, my understanding is that Thomas S. does not talk along these lines as Piper does (though he allowed the foreword in his book). I also don't think Washer or John MacArthur teaches this either. Salvation is in the here and now and future. If we are being saved from our sins, then be saved from your sins. Sanctification is by the Spirit, it needs to be there. I'm by no means saying it will be perfect, but there will be something.
I think what hurts the most is being lied to. People are not forthright or don’t know we’re they stand on the sovereignty of God. They get it all confused and yet scripture declares both. God is soverin and man has free will. As a pastor I’ve seen both taken to there extreme and ruins people.
The Islamic believe is the correct believe. A person can NOT purchase Salvation with works, but with works and effort GoD shows them his mercy and Salvation. Muslims always help out the Christians to come back to the way of Jesus (Islam) the submission to the ONE GoD of Abraham. leave the innovation of trinity that leads to Hell Fire, will you NOT abstain from it?
Obeidence builds strength. Sin weakens the believer. Jesus could do what he did and the apostles could do what they did through obeidence. The more you obey the stronger and more like Jesus you become.
Yes it's a given that many do. Particularly those who believe or accept Lordship salvation as a right theology. But some, many, believe salvation from beginning to end us dependent only upon a Sovereign God and His free will to have mercy upon who He will have mercy. And whom He will He hardens.
I’ve been thinking this..is it really going too far to suggest that these reformed people aren’t actually saved? I don’t think it is..the path is very narrow..The SBC teaches worksbased lordship faith along with those in the reformed movement same with catholics etc all these folks might actually be going to hell
John Jones I believe in predestination but I don’t believe in any form of works, neither to show you are saved, for David lived a very sinful life and yet no one would doubt his salvation, nor do I believe works are needed in order to achieve salvation. No true Calvinist would claim that God would change His mind, in fact, the strongest argument for Calvinism is that God never changes His mind and that He set all things from before the foundation of the world, “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all of my pleasure”. Calvinism claims, along side Arminianism, that God knows all things that will come to pass, but it differs from the later inasmuch as it states that God knows all things before He set them to be so.
Exactly like the story of RT Kendall's study of the leaders of the English Reformation. They almost all doubted their salvation on their death beds. Because if you subscribe to perserverence of the saints, then the only way to judge whether or not you have perservered is to examine your works. It's de facto works salvation. I'm a Galatians Christian, I can't view Calvinists as saved because they teach a different gospel and that's clear.
Predestination is when we believe the gospel, First Corinthians 15:1-4, We are predestinated to be raised at the resurrection. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH EVERLASTING LIFE. Our faith is based on what Jesus did for us on the cross plus nothing. I personally do not believe these Lordship salvationists are saved. They have bypassed the cross and believe they are saved by discipleship. They are deceived, and are leading others into deception. Matthew 7:15-23. Galatians 1:7-9 Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let the be accursed. As we said before, so say I again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let Him be accursed. Lordship salvation is salvation by works. The opposite of Romans 11:6. Salvation can only be received as a free gift. All grace. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. It is free. Romans 6:23 and Ephesians 2:8-9. These false teachers say they believe Ephesians 2:8-9 but they really do not believe it. They do not believe John 3:16 either. It does not agree with what they believe. That they are chosen, but they can not tell you how they know they are chosen except by some experience or vague understanding of some obscure scripture. It is really Gnosticism.
+José Furgiuele I hope you believe in true Biblical predestination and not Calvinism's perversion of it. Calvinism's version of "predestination" is no different from Islam's false concept of "Fatalism". Calvinism's assertion that God never changes His mind is false as there are Biblical examples of God changing His mind. The context of Jeremiah 18:6-10 clearly states that God changes His mind when His people turn from evil to good or from good to evil. God CHANGED HIS MIND about the evil He was going to do to His people when they built the golden calf when Moses reasoned with God in Exodus 32:11-13. 1) Exodus 32:14 - And the Lord REPENTED OF THE EVIL which he thought to do unto his people. God CHANGED HIS MIND about what He was going to do to the Ninevites in Jonah 3:10 when He saw that the people turned from their evil ways. 2) Jonah 3:10 - And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God REPENTED of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; AND HE DID IT NOT. 3) Jonah 4:2 - He prayed to the Lord, “Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who RELENTS from sending calamity. 4) Jeremiah 18:6-10 - 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. 7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, TURN FROM THEIR EVIL, I WILL REPENT OF THE EVIL THAT I THOUGHT TO DO UNTO THEM. 9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 IF IT DO EVIL IN MY SIGHT, THAT IT OBEY NOT MY VOICE, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. 5) Jeremiah 26:3 - Perhaps they will listen and each will turn from their evil ways. Then I will RELENT AND NOT INFLICT ON THEM THE DISASTER I WAS PLANNING BECAUSE OF THE EVIL THEY HAVE DONE. 6) Jeremiah 26:13 - Now reform your ways and your actions and obey the LORD your God. Then the LORD will RELENT and NOT BRING THE DISASTER HE HAS PRONOUNCED AGAINST YOU. 7) Jeremiah 26:19 - "Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah fear the LORD and seek his favor? And did not the LORD RELENT, SO THAT HE DID NOT BRING THE DISASTER HE PRONOUNCED AGAINST THEM? We are about to bring a terrible disaster on ourselves!" 8) Amos 7:1-6 - This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!” 3 So the Lord RELENTED. “THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN,” the Lord said. 4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!” 6 So the Lord RELENTED. “THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN EITHER,” the Sovereign Lord said. 9) 2 Kings 20:1-11. In this passage God CHANGED HIS MIND and extended the lifespan of King Hezekiah by adding 15 more years to his life after Hezekiah prayed and cried to God. God initially told Hezekiah that he would not recover from his illness, but will die - 2 Kings 20:1. God CHANGES HIS MIND about Hezekiah and heals him - 2 Kings 20:5-7. God then confirmed his promise to heal Hezekiah in 2 Kings 20:8-11.
John Piper was totally spot on. According to Jesus’s own words, He also believes that your good works are necessary for final salvation. Jesus will judge your works. You will enter heaven, or not, based on your deeds. ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
SO, for Piper to say that one can be made right with God through faith, that being right with God means the faith is salvific and therefore encompasses all the attributes of a saving faith already, as the issue is definitional, and therefore he cannot then say it (saving faith) is not enough and must be supported by other things, because those things he supposes should by definition be within the faith that makes one right with God (otherwise it would not sufficiently make one right with God in any sense).
i like this Bob Wilkin as a man, he is cool, calm and collected, i find it interesting he came out of a cult that taught sinless perfection, to his new belief..... basically, say Jesus Name and be saved so to speak, two total polar opposites. ( i wonder if he has ever truly thought i went from one Supreme Extreme, to the Opposite Supreme extreme? (truly screams some sort of delusional thinking) ) two polar opposite extremes, imagine if you followed him before and after... wow what a trip that would have been.... Bob has helped me in the sense that this guy can intellectually answer all the Bible Questions you throw at him,, all while i am thinking is this guy truly a sincere christian?,, ( which i believe ) or just a straight up false teacher, what would a false teacher look like?, i am sure he would not be easy to spot if he was worth a lick of salt... his belief is totally out to lunch, however he can certainly put an argument together,,, i would love if his beliefs were right, and Billions going to heaven,,, but truly the only people that could believe this heresy are unregenerate, still in the flesh, or people that dont read The Holy Bible, or they read some watered down version of The Bible. I am sorry if this sounds harsh, perhaps you should think of it as a wake up call, rather than anything else... i humbly give you my opinion, if you believe this stuff you are the truly lost in all that i understand, but if you listen to Bob he might say, well i am talking about them that will go to heaven, not rule and rein with Christ gathering rewards.... that said i would hope he is right, but that is what fantasies are for..... i speak of what i have learned on my journey, perhaps Bob speaks what he has learned on his, but i believe i am trying to help you repent, and he is blind in all that matters, in all that i understand, if i am wrong i truly apologize, but if i am wrong i must truly be mentally incapable of any discernment what so ever, Try This..... Pick up the Bible anywhere OLD/or New Testament, say a prayer to Jesus ( humbly ) and see i SPEAK THE TRUTH!!!

Pipers “Q and A” sessions are chock full of worksy inconsistencies. I’ve listened to a lot of them. He’s a passionate, hand wringing prophet of confusion. Sorry.
Piper is definitely inconsistent. Instead of answering he can just say “I don’t know” and that would be more correct than to actually answer some of the questions.
gratitude is not the only motivation mentioned in Scripture. Read the book of Hebrews! Read 1st and 2nd Peter! Read Jude! Read revelation, Romans 11! It is a healthy thing to have a holy fear of God and who he is. Be careful of listening to false teachers and you end up back in the pig pen as in 2nd Peter 2 whose last state is worse than the first!
Christians Rebuke John Piper for Calling Trump’s Re-Election Win an ‘Evil’ John Piper faced significant backlash after describing Donald Trump’s election victory as an "evil," suggesting that God was testing believers with another challenge following the election. His remarks, referencing Deuteronomy 13:3, stirred strong responses from Trump supporters, including prominent Christian figures who accused Piper of failing to recognize the alleged moral differences between the candidates. While critics condemned Piper’s view as misguided, others defended his stance, praising his theological perspective on testing faith and remaining steadfast to Christ's teachings.
I don't understand why there's confusion over these statements given an understanding of the three parts of salvation: justification, sanctification, and glorification. We are justified by faith alone. The "other conditions" for Heaven are the subsequent processes of sanctification and glorification, I would assume. I've only read a couple of Piper's books, and I don't have any of the context besides what you've quoted. Yet, you quote Piper as saying, "In fact, one must already be in a right relationship with God by faith alone in order to meet the other conditions." Basically, you won't be sanctified or glorified without having first been justified. One can quibble over whether or not sanctification is monergistic or synergistic, but it's not fair to call a synergistic view of sanctification "salvation by works." Even from what I know of Piper, I'm not even sure if he'd hold to a synergist view of sanctification. Maybe there's more content surrounding the bit you've sniped out of the foreword, but it's pretty clear that merely from the statements you've read, there's nothing works based about what Piper has said. Are the "other conditions listed" as works or have you assumed that?
Thank you for being the only person in the room with common sense and for having the good grace to say something with gentleness and respect. God bless you sir.
Matthew 7:21-23 Those that trust in their works are not saved. Only those that have done the will of His Father. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that all that seeth the Son, and believeth in Him, may have eternal life, and I will raise Him up on the last day. There are no conditions for salvation because it is a free GIFT from God. If we did anything to deserve salvation, then we would have something to boast in. Ephesians 2:8-9 Salvation is all grace. Romans 11:6. You can not add law/works with grace. They can not mix. We can only be saved by grace. All of our sins have been paid for forever. First John 2:2. Christ died for our sins. 5 words. 5 is grace. We are saved and give eternal life by faith alone. Romans 4:5 Romans 3:28 and Romans 6:23. You can not add what we do to what Jesus has already done. That is blasphemy. His finished work on the cross is sufficient for all our sin.
Lordship salvation is a counterfeit gospel of works salvation. We can only be saved by grace, not by what we do. Either Jesus finished work on the cross is good enough plus nothing. or we are not saved. We can not save our selves. If we could, then Jesus died in vain.
Piper believes the doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints as opposed to the doctrine of eternal security. He believes IF saved always saved. So a person who professes faith in Christ and does not bear fruit showing growth in grace and progress in sanctification is not someone who, on Piper's view, is authentically saved, and therefore such a person would not inherit eternal life and spend eternity with Christ. This is standard Calvinistic doctrine. Infact, Arminians agree with Calvinists that a person who professes faith in Christ but goes on living in sin is someone who will suffer in hell for all eternity if they do not come to genuine repentance and faith in Christ. It is only those who believe the FALSE doctrine of eternal security that teaches a person can profess faith in Christ and then go on being a drug dealer, or wife-abuser, or sodomite, or drunkard, or gossip etc... and still be in right relationship with God. It is this false doctrine that does not take the warnings of scripture seriously. "If we go on sinning wilfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins remains, but just the fearful expectation of judgement that will consume the adversaries. He who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely does one deserve to be punished, who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and insulted the Spirit of grace. For we know him who said, 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' and again, 'The Lord will judge his people.' It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Hebrews 10:26-31 Both Calvinists and Arminians take these warnings seriously... Although the scriptures are interpreted differently by both camps. It seems to me that only the OSAS camp disregards the warnings entirely. That is dangerous. Piper does not believe works salvation. He believes biblical salvation.
William Bradley That was not a WARNING...it was FACT! The author was conveying that the ONLY sacrifice to PURGE sin is the BLOOD of Jesus. There is no other sacrifice that can be offered to God for the remission of sins that reconciles sinners to the Father FOR EVER, but the offering of the BLOOD of Christ Jesus! The blood of bulls and goats only PURIFIED the flesh for a time...FAITH in the blood of Jesus PURGES all of yours FOREVER!!! The author was speaking to Hebrew UNBELIEVERS just receiving the knowledge of the truth...they hadn't yet decided to accept this knowledge or reject it! Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with THOSE sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto PERFECT. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers ONCE PURGED should have had no more conscience of sins. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected FOR EVER them that are sanctified. You become Sanctified by the holy Spirit at the same moment you are Justified by your Faith in his BLOOD. Ephesians 1:12 That we (Israel) should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also (Gentiles) trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER that YE BELIEVED, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance UNTIL the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.....The Holy Spirit is the EARNEST of our inheritance!!! Thank you Jesus! Our works that follow salvation are because we LOVE him, NOT for salvation! LOVE!!! Peace.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. I believe that but I also believe the rest of the New Testament as well, we are not saved by works but you had better have them. Mat 25:14-46, James 2:14-26, John 15:1-10, there are many passages about Christian works, and one particular church is the largest in the USA, they did not become the largest by practicing 100% no works dogma, no these people got out and evangelized to become the largest church in America. I would give just about anything for them to actually practice their no works mantra 100% because if the Lord tarried, as their elders died out, then the next set would die out, and so on and so forth until the last one died and that would be that. they did not become the largest denomination setting on the stool of do nothing as they claim their dogma says they can do.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” I rest in that. Piper’s assertion that faith only gets God “on our side” and that works (how many? How pure?) are required to get us into Heaven is nothing but Roman Catholicism without the hope of purgatory.
Oh wow, Piper's heaven is so much harder to get to than Jesus'. I'll stick with Jesus' Heaven through faith alone in Jesus.
Pipers not saved. He preaches a false gospel

Very good point ...
Luke 13:23-30 kj
Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?
29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from
the north and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
And in Matt 7:21 - 23, it says this:
"21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; *but he that doeth the will of my Father* which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
What is the will of the Father? It is explicitly mentioned in John 6:40: "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and *believeth* on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
And if you go a few verses before that, Jesus was even more explicit in his answer to the Pharisees:
"28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, *that ye believe on him* whom he hath sent." - John 6:28-29
The Pharisees specifically asked what must they do to work the works of God (that is to get to heaven). And Jesus said that you must believe on him whom the Father had sent.
Believing is the condition. Most people trust in their works, that's why they aren't saved. Who did Jesus say he never knew? Those who were trusting their " *many wonderful works* "
If you think you need to do more other than just your faith in Christ's finished work on the cross, you have not repented.
Here's something you need to reflect upon:
"28 Come unto me, all ye that *labour and are heavy laden* , and *I will give you rest* .
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find *rest unto your souls* .
30 For *my yoke is easy*, and my *burden is light* ." - Matt 11: 28-30
Jesus says explicitly that his yoke is EASY, and his burden is LIGHT.
😂😂😂
His works, not our works. The evidence of ones justification is they will do the works of God by The Holy Spirit.
This topic in my opinion is the most important one in Christianity. Either it is faith alone or its faith plus works. There is no in-between one position is a lie. I am beginning to suspect that the likes of Piper, MacArthur, Washer et al are the real wolves in sheep's clothing.
You're not saved by faith you're saved by grace.
@@jeffouellette9946 saved by grace through faith
I think the reason they are diverting the conversation/message to works is because they don’t truly believe Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God and that they will have eternal life simply by believing through faith.

Scripture says:
Colossians 2:11
"In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ."
Jesus cuts away the flesh when we receive the Holy Spirit, and we lose sinful desires.
The Apostle Paul tells us this:
Galatians 5:24
"And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
We dont have both the Holy Spirit and the flesh nature. Scripture tells us so:
Romans 8:9
"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you."
Everyone who dies while still in their flesh has not been born again. Scripture tells us that sinning Christians are guaranteed to end up in hell:
Romans 8:13
"For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."
God only gives the Holy Spirit to those who are obedient. Scripture tells us so:
Acts 5:32
"We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
The Apostle John who was taught by Jesus face to face agrees with these things.
1 John 3:9
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
God’s grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin.
◄ Jude 1:24 says:
"To him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (sin) and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-
Romans 6:18 also says:
"You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness."
Piper speaks out of both sides of his mouth. The deception is subtle. Deception non the less.
This is how we know that satan and doctrines of devils are at work during the end times....trying to pervert the glorious gospel of grace. Lord, give us the strength and courage to continue to contend for the faith. We cannot pervert the pure Gospel of Grace
James 2:24, “you see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” ESV
Piper is simply saying that works are not needed to bring us into a saving relationship with God, but the faith that truly brings us into that relationship will produce good works and if it doesn’t it’s not a saving faith and we won’t get to heaven.
Here’s Piper giving a full explanation. ua-cam.com/video/8dh4Ifb4vCY/v-deo.html
Now let’s be clear...
"Saved by faith alone. HOWEVER if you don't have works, you are not saved" = Backdoor Works-based Salvation

At the end of His Ministry on earth, Jesus says clearly
"and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem" (Luke 24:47. Original reading)
Peter's first sermon in Acts chapter 2 says, that when those who heard him, and were "cut to the heart (convicted by the Holy Spirit, see also John 16:8-10)", they said "what must we DO". Peter does not say, "DO nothing", instead, "“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (verses 37-38). REPENT for the FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS"
in 2 Corinthians 7:10, Paul says, "For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death"
There is NO salvation that does not include REPENTANCE BEFORE the sinner is saved
Arminianism and Calvinism are twin brothers whereby, salvation depends on us. Salvation by grace through faith is scriptural and is all of God apart from any works on our part, giving God all the glory.
Worthy Brief - May 27, 2020
break forth!
Micah 2:13 The breaker is goes up before them: they will break out, pass through the gate, and go out by it. So their king shall pass before them, with the LORD at their head.
An ancient Hebrew commentator wrote of this verse, "In the words of our teachers of blessed memory and in the Midrash [ancient Hebrew commentaries of the O.T.], it is taught that the 'breaker' is Elijah and 'their King' is the branch of the son of David."
As I read this commentary, I was blown away by the interpretation of this scripture by ancient Hebrew scholars!
The word "repent", is "metanoia" in Greek, which means to "change one's mind for the better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins."
the message of repentance remains central to the breaking forth of God's Kingdom!
Almost every sentence in that was wrong, you're a fakir
If we are saved by faith then we have works because faith without works is dead. Period.
Love is the work of faith. Matthew 7:12, Galatians 5:24, Romans 13:8,9
Read James in context. James is talking to individuals who are ALREADY believers.
That's still Works-based salvation but the wording is different
Hang on a second. You say Piper is saying the other conditions are "works". You've got the book in your hands. He surely must explain what the other conditions are. What are they?
If "sola fide" is not the sole condition, then what could these additional conditions ever be if not something other than faith? And if something isn't faith, what's left?
Doesn’t matter what they are. He says you cannot obtain heaven by faith alone.
That is just it. He does not say what the conditions are. First he says it is by faith alone, Romans 4:5 John 6:47. then he says it is not by faith alone, their are conditions. Just kidding.
For me it does not matter what John Piper says.. What matter to me is what God’s word says..
Note,
"WORK" does NOT earn us salvation.
In Matthew 7:15-23 Jesus was talking about wolves in sheep's clothing, that come in and preach a false gospel of works salvation
They called him lord, and did many wonderful works, but never did the will of His Father in heaven.

Good thought provoking comments but think again. One cannot read the Bible selectively and draw these simplistic conclusions.
Piper clearly says that salvation is by nothing other than by faith alone - sola fidè. However:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV
Paul writes that we are created for good works that result from faith and confirm our purpose (not the other way round).
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.”
2 Peter 1:5-10 ESV
Nothing teaches us better than the word of God - sola scriptura. The apostle Peter states our faith is supplemented by these seven traits. All God requires of us is obedience, which begins with our salvation by grace alone. It clearly does not stop there. We’re not “helping God out” by being obedient to His instruction. We’re doing His will.

All their works burn up
They themselves will be saved, but it will be like escaping fire.
Unless Paul the apostle was lying, which he wasn’t
Any attempt to qualify faith with works in anathema
Ok, so, if true faith can never be alone, we arent saved by faith alone. Do you see how stupid that sounds
Ok Piper, tell me, what good works did the thief on the cross do to get to Paradise?
He humbled himself
@jeffouellette9946 He didn't humble himself. Christ gave that humility in him as a GIFT. WE can do NOTHING without the Spirit giving us a new heart.
Faith alone isn't a condition. Salvation is by grace through faith, not of us, but the free gift of God, so that none can boast. If faith is a condition then man can boast in his faith, but if faith is God given, then where can we boast.
That's right but it still says we're saved by Grace
Romans 3:19 - Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
Romans 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:21 - But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Romans 3:22 - Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:24 - Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 3:25 - Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Romans 3:26 - To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Pipers teachings aren’t biblical. He’s teaching a works-based salvation. I’ve read an article on Desiring God and he’s not teaching faith alone.
TRUE TRUE TRUE Its ALL bout Our Lord Jesus Christ . And Him alone ...
The real gospel is repent and believe.
"Right with God by faith alone, not attain Heaven by Faith Alone".

Faith alone is not the way to heaven.
Scripture says Repent and believe.
Jesus said we must repent from sin and believe. You can't (have faith) claim to believe in Christ if you reject repenting of sin.
2 Corinthians 7:10
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
Luke 3:8
Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.
Let me simply exegete Paul here:
Justification > Set free from sin > Become slaves of God > Fruit you get > sanctification > eternal life
if this salvation is achieved by power of the indwelling Spirit of God, then it should not be thought of as works of the law achieved in the power of the flesh, done to merit eternal life.
Reformed theology is not true because they still believe you cannot lose salvation.
3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” l Corinthians 15: 1-4
explain what believing in vain means?
dime droppin Thank you for your question.

You are supposed to practice righteousness and it's right there in the book of Titus

James 2:24... I repeat, James 2:24
Hebrews 2:1-3a
"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?"
2 Peter 3:14-17
"So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction."
Why not just ask Piper to explain what he wrote?
You don't have to ask Piper what he wrote to know that he preaches Lordship Salvation (subtle works based gosepl, although they will never admit they teach a works based gospel).

You can not be born again and continue to willfully sin:
1 John 3:6-9 New International Version (NIV)
6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
Anthony Carbonaro willful sin is unbelief.

Jesus is the one who said if you're a true believer you are a disciple.
Jesus never said you can be a believer and being a disciple is optional.
Not all calvinists believe in faith plus works.
(Luke 13:3 & 5)
"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
Just like one needs to believe in Jesus for Salvation, but that does not mean that Faith is what saves us, it is CHRIST that saves us not Faith. And this is why it doesn't matter how big or small your Faith is, even if it's small as a Mustard Seed.
How do you know if you have actually repented?
Do you believe this?”"
In a very childlike way I know I can say "I believe, Lord, I believe"
I've read and appreciate the scriptures you brought up.
Romans 11:14-22
And when they had preached the gospel to that City and MADE many DISCIPLES, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening The souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, we must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God. So when they had appointed elders in every Church and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Acts 14:21-23
You come in by faith( become a disciple), and you continue by faith. God justifies and reconciles us when we repent and believe the gospel and now as a disciple, or follower of Christ, He will continue to give me Grace to escape the coming Wrath as I continue to trust Him. see Romans 5:9,10; 1st Thessalonians 1:10; Hebrews 7 :11-15; Hebrews 10:35-39; Matthew 24: 12, 13
You therefore, beloved, since you know this before hand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever, amen. 2nd Peter 3:17, 18
It makes more sense to me that it would be grace by faith after all that we can do
Romans - For I will have mercy on who I choose to have mercy on..... and no one else.
Love you guys and what you're doing. It is much needed in the body of Christ...

Sounds like a type of "Lordship Salvation" to me - in addition to grace... this type of doctrine is picking up speed amongst many.
What is it?

I've listened to Piper many times he never preaches works salvation.
According to Bob following the new testament teaching on the laws if Christ is works.
Perhaps they should explain what following Jesus as Shepherd means.
Piper preached salvation by faith alone for 40 years. I'll take that over one comment in a book
Pipers “Q and A” sessions are chock full of worksy inconsistencies. I’ve listened to a lot of them. He’s a passionate, hand wringing prophet of confusion. Sorry.

From James 2:24
You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

And, I'm not huge Piper fan, but his viewpoint isn't works based salvation.
What did John Piper say when you asked him to clarify?
Of all the Calvinists on UA-cam, John Piper and RC Sproul are the worst heretics.
Very good ending. If I or anyone else alters the Gospel in any way, shape, or form, it is no longer the Gospel.
Why didn't Jesus just give you the gospel and leave the rest of the Bible out. You're supposed to be a doer of the word or your deceived.
I think I would add Nancy Demoss Walgemuth to that list of works based salvationists too.
the work there is to show love to you neighbour on earth.
Sound quality is very low.
Absolutely 100% correct
I agree with your comment John Jones.
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, TURN FROM THEIR EVIL, I WILL REPENT OF THE EVIL THAT I THOUGHT TO DO UNTO THEM.
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10 IF IT DO EVIL IN MY SIGHT, THAT IT OBEY NOT MY VOICE, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
We are about to bring a terrible disaster on ourselves!"
8) Amos 7:1-6 - This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”
3 So the Lord RELENTED.
He is so small!”
6 So the Lord RELENTED.
John piper is an unsaved false teacher
I hate greasy grace. This doctrine leads to anti nomianism and ignores many passages as well as the character of God from Genesis to revelation.

i like this Bob Wilkin as a man, he is cool, calm and collected, i find it interesting he came out of a cult that taught sinless perfection, to his new belief..... basically, say Jesus Name and be saved so to speak, two total polar opposites.

For whatever reason i have isolated myself from other Christians, and in my hour of need, after i abandoned THE LORD JESUS, i have been sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss... i have been trying to reach out to Christian in my own way, but none could see, or hear my call. ( i do not judge here, if there is any blame it is 100% on me, fully and completely) ....
that said you answered bro, and i will accept your encouragement, because i feel dead inside, but now on the road to recovery The GOOD LORD Willing,,, brother as you have helped me, i dont plan on letting you go brother, here is my email achristian@shaw.ca... i have wrote your digits down, i will reach out sooner or later,,,, as THE GOOD LORD WILLS, but for now, know that your words of encouragement were not lacking anything that i need call you today... good luck brother, and like i said, now that i found you, ( or better said, put in each others path ) i do not plan on losing touch with you..send me a mail, tell me about yourself bro, or speak only on Jesus & His Precious Heavenly Father, our Great GOD of Abraham.

Christians Rebuke John Piper for Calling Trump’s Re-Election Win an ‘Evil’
John Piper faced significant backlash after describing Donald Trump’s election victory as an "evil," suggesting that God was testing believers with another challenge following the election.
Guys, Please get your sound fixed. You have such good content, but your sound is terrible. This is too important to have terrible sound.
For we know him who said, 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' and again, 'The Lord will judge his people.' It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Hebrews 10:26-31
Both Calvinists and Arminians take these warnings seriously... Although the scriptures are interpreted differently by both camps. It seems to me that only the OSAS camp disregards the warnings entirely. That is dangerous.
Piper does not believe works salvation. He believes biblical salvation.
William Bradley
That was not a WARNING...it was FACT!
13 In whom ye also (Gentiles) trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER that YE BELIEVED, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance UNTIL the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.....The Holy Spirit is the EARNEST of our inheritance!!! Thank you Jesus!
Our works that follow salvation are because we LOVE him, NOT for salvation!
LOVE!!!
Peace.
is resisting the temptation to fornicate " works" ?
Nope it's obedience
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
That's right it says you're saved by grace not by faith
@@jeffouellette9946 what part of through faith did you not get?
