Numbers are one thing but how do you use the numbers? iPhone's can't even multitask never mind the desktop mode and integration and functionality of Motorola, Samsung etc to actually make use of the performance. Any high end phone is beyond necessary performance for single screen on phone usage. That Apple keeps upping chip performance in a hamstrung OS with huge limitations (intentionally to sell iPads, and then MacBooks etc) is just marketing.

you are right, these tests are not 100% accurate but give you some idea about performance.
