Gary's an incredible live performer, still one of the country's best after so many years, a firebrand. He plays all instruments on stage esp the drums, sings all genrès and a fantastic dancer! He's the full package.
Great, Great Pic!! Love Spain and the original y Al Jarreau who penned this Chick Corea classic, near and dear to my heart. Gary does a fantastic job playing off Al's track. Do yourself a favor if this appeals to you listen to Al's version. Anyway, thanks for the post and reaction love seeing young folks react to this kind of Jazz version for the first time (smiles) As always my dear, please stay safe and much love.
Spain was orginally written by jazz pianist Chic Corea early 1970's and some 10 years later voice magician Al Jarreau added lyrics to the song. Gary, who wrote the song Could You Be Messiah which Mori sang and you reacted to, does a cover of Al's version. Speaking of Al Jarreau you should check out Take Five live with him!
Hey Caitlin Gary took Beat Boxing and Scatting to another level . The original scatters were Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme .. Now you know why all the Filipino's look up to Gary and why they call him Mr. Energy just imagine him doing that song standing up :)
Spain was originally composed by American jazz composer Chick Corea in 1973. American jazz singer, AL Jarreau put in the lyrics in 1980. Gary Valenciano, Filipino singer, " Mr. Pure Energy " did this cover song to showcase his talent & vocal ability. His style in this song is of Latin Jazz featuring " Scatting", vocal percussion & what is known today as beat boxing. He emulated the various musical instruments like sax, electric guitar, bass, drums, conga, bongo and even the stainless triangle to boot. Gary Valenciano is also a very good dancer. He gets to sing & dance in his concerts. He is also Katrina Velarde's mentor. Caitlin, have you ever reacted to his compositions like Take Me Out of the Dark, Jump For Joy, etc?
Scat singing is what he is doing. A Chick Corea melody with words (and initial performance as a song by Al Jarreau). Chick Corea, Joe Sample, Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola, Herbie Hancock, The Crusaders (remember "Street Life" featured in Tarrentino's Jackie Brown?) This is what I have known as "West coast Jazz". Sadly, many people are as much afraid of the word Jazz as they are of Classical. The fact that Hip-Hop, House, Trance, Rap and so many others would not exist if not for some form of Jazz is completely bypassed. OK - maybe the history doesn't matter. But, being open-minded - like you and "giving it a go" is what matters. As my old mum used to say "How can you know you don't like it until you've tried it?". I and would grudgingly reply "Yes mum - but, I am sure that genocide is illegal"😜
The history as you put it, is part and parcel of all music. It's what gives music its richness. I'm 45, and it makes me a bit sad, that Caitlin though being from the same ethnic background as I, which is coloured (loosely described as mixed race, even though our genes can be traced as being the original inhabitants of South Africa) does not quite have the appreciation that our people use to have for Jazz. But to be fair, I think it's a generational thing. Could also be a geographical thing, cause even though she's a coloured, Johannesburg were I think she is from, does not have as much of that appreciation for the Jazz as say the Cape where our kind are more prevalent. She should just ask her Dad or mom, and surely they'll clue her up. It's brilliant that she gave it a go though. She's still one of the best reactors out there. No doubt
@@FishFinga17 So correct here as this style was mastered by Al Jarreau for the singing and Jay Graydon for the updating of the arrangement. Chick Correa's version was instrumental only. For modern scat singing, try Gigi De Lana's version of Fly Me To the Moon...
@@warreniwamasa1261 Oh don't get me started on Gigi, and Gigi Vibes. She's a star. Probably my second favorite Philippina, in amongst a host of extremely talented singers from that country. She's really taking the place by storm
@@FishFinga17 Thanks and I here you. She would make for a good recording artist, but she excels in her live performance. Her story telling with her expressions and movements is at another level. At around 4:45, it shows Gigli at her most casual, completely forgetting that they were live. So extremely funny and you got to love them all.
He will most likely be the most versatile artist you will ever see. He is also a good dancer. All around artist. That would be jazz. Influenced by Al Jarreau and added his flair. Glad to see you discover his talent. 😊

He's a fifty something with energy that shames people half his age. And his daughter is also a singer (Kiana V). His religious songs are amazing - he cowrote the song "Could You Be Messiah" that you heard Morissette sing. And for a different take and a look at a younger Gary V, you should look up the youtube video of Gary singing this song (in 2012, Universal Music Philippines).
Ask you mom or dad about Al Jarreau Caitlin. If they, or your family originally come from the Cape, then surely they'll know. Even Jonathan Butler played alongside Al Jarreau. Ask Bronwyn of Marc Lottering 🤣

A few days ago (see below) This diamond should be in your collection. I would like to share with you my discovery. The voice of amazing beauty, power and depth, crystal clear, I heard from a beautiful girl and was fascinated by her. Her story moved me even more. At the age of 3, this little girl was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and other psychological and physical injuries. The child ended up in an orphanage, where her future foster mother worked as a masseuse. The story itself is a ready-made plot for an Oscar-nominated film. This girl is now 19 years old. She has about 70 victories in various vocal competitions. If you understand what it is to sing with soul, then this is about her. Diana also has a huge army of fans, and reactions are gaining tens and hundreds of thousands of views. The total number of reactions on UA-cam to Diana is about 13 thousand. A few days ago was the release of the song Revelation. This song was the first completely original song by Diana Ankudinova, she herself wrote the lyrics and composed music. Several dozen reactions, all reactionaries are shocked once again, but now not only by Diana's voice, but also by a talent that can create not cheap one-time music, but hits for all time. Meet Diana Ankudinova and her song Revelation.
