  • Part 22 in Pastor David Guzik's in-depth look at the book of Genesis, expositing chapter 18. This chapter sees God's affirmation and further confirmation of his previous promise to intervene in and assure the birth of a son between Sarah and Abraham, Sarah's response to overhearing the promise, and a negotiation between Abraham and the Lord over the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Pastor David details each of these records, as well as pointing out some of the ways this chapter echoes the personage and mission of Christ Jesus.

    Thank you for explaining, breaking down and repeating the scriptures of the Bible as it is very complex. I'm learning a great deal each and every day because of your skillful talent of teaching the Bible in layman's terms. God Bless You Always : )

    One aspect that gets overlooked in Genesis chapter 18 is that Abraham is talking directly to Jesus, the Lord, in the flesh in this chapter, which is the reason Messiah Jesus himself says, "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad." "You are not yet fifty years old," they said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!' "Very truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" -- (John 8:56-58). Jesus in John chapter 8 refers to Himself as "I AM" like he spoke to Moses (Exodus 3:14). As the Torah says in the beginning of creation, Elohim made the world, which is a plural name for the One God of Israel -- revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Geneses chapter 18, the Bible says, "The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three mean standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground." -- (Genesis 18:1-2). As established in this chapter of the three men, 2 are angels and the other is the Lord Jesus. The LORD in the flesh as the Bible establishes, "Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son." -- (Genesis 18:13-14). In Genesis chapter 18 verse 22, we soon discover that the two other men are angels, as the Bible says, "The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD." The men are revealed as angels in Genesis chapter 19 verse 1, "The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city." In Genesis chapter 18 verses 25 through 27, the Bible establishes that Abraham is speaking to the LORD in the flesh again, as the Bible says, "Far be it from you to do such a thing -- to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?" The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people In the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes..". Abraham is clearly speaking to the Lord Jesus as revealed by the New Covenant Scripture and the Torah.

    “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” And “he heard her laugh within herself”… these statements alone should be enough to make people tremble within themselves, good or bad.

    The fact that he could not find more than four righteous people is wild. This is why this is the last coming because God is done with people. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink🤷🏾‍♀️

    It is strange that Lot's desire to live in Sodom due to the fact that it was as the garden of Eden caused his herdmen perhaps to become wicked as the inhabitants of Sodom, his wife turned into a pillar of salt because she looked back, made Lot traumatized that he stayed away from the city life afterwards and caused indirectly his daughters to commit incest with him because he didn't have any male heirs.

      Pastor Lance replies - It's generally thought by most theologians that ANY appearance of God to humans is a Christophany. Remember that when Moses asked to see God, God told Him he couldn't. it would be too much. So he placed Moses in a cleft of the mountain and after God passed by, all Moses saw as the afterglow of God's glory - as when the sun sinks below the horizon, but we see it's afterglow in the sky.

    Genesis 18:2 do you think of Trinity? Father, son, holy Spirit

    • @moose2590
      @moose2590 5 місяців тому

      No remember, no one has seen the Father the first of the Trinity.

    • @janeecejjf2001
      @janeecejjf2001 3 місяці тому

      It does make you think of the Trinity but it wasn’t the Trinity. No one has seen God the Father. The next chapter goes on to tell how the 2 angels came to Sodom. That’s the 2 that left while Abraham talked to the Lord. So the other 2 were angels.

    • @DavidGuzikEnduringWord

      Pastor Lance replies - Most like one was a pre-incarnate appearance of God the Son. The other 2 were likely the same angels that went to Sodom.

    Jesus did not appear to Abraham Jesus is not the reincarnation of God I want to help you if you want to know the real Jesusv Jesus is not here he wasn't born yet if if you want to know the real life of Jesus Christ you should read The Gospel of Barnabas ' ❤

    • @janeecejjf2001

      Jesus is not a REINCARNATION of God. No one ever claimed that. Jesus is the second person of the Godhead. He is the WORD manifested in the flesh. So no, these appearances were not in the sense that we know Jesus who walked this earth as the Son of God. But they are the appearances of the WORD of God. Same second person of the Godhead.

      Doctrines that were anti biblical is exactly why books like that did not make it into the bible. God inspired and directed does not conflict wit itself. There is good knowledge from reading old authors But there are those who it is best to throw out the baby with the bathwater because they are unable to discern what is human misunderstanding versus God given doctrines. The first Christians dealt with a great deal of false teachings.

      Oh and read and think about the first chapter of John, the word was with God ....the Word was God, so hmmm kinda destroys your theory about Jesus not being until he was born. You cannot limit Jesus to human constraints.

    Jesus is not God is reincarnation Jesus and god are two different things god is the almighty Jesus is just a human being❤ I think once you finish the old testament you should read The Gospel of Barnabas ' ❤ and will tell you the real life of Jesus Christ I think it will tell you the truth about him what do you think he is

      You do understand that the book you’re referring to couldn’t have possibly been written by Barnabas right? This falsehood claiming to be a gospel is no gospel at all. Gospel means good news. There is nothing good about the rejection and denial of Jesus Christ the Son of God and His crucifixion and resurrection. This book that mentions Muhammad was written over 1,000 years after the religion of Islam was created. Someone somewhere wanted there to be confirmation to a false religion and created this thing that you refer to as a gospel.
      God said let there be 2 or more witnesses. You’re wanted to take this one book and put it against the 4 gospels.
      I say this with love, you have been deceived. And I pray that the Holy Spirit gives you clarity. Pray that the Holy Spirit reveals the truth and falsehoods to you. And pray for the wisdom and discernment to know the difference. God did and does have a plan for Ishmael and his people. But rejection of His Son has never been part of that plan.
      Come to the Lord through Jesus Christ while you can.
