    My head understands this, I can visualize this, but when I get on the floor 1) I don't jump very high. I'm short, and my knees are bad 2) I have a fear of landing on my knee, and collapsing it. 3) My body isn't understanding what I am visualizing. I could probably explain it, write a thesis on it, but when it comes to doing it, I hold back, and I don't know how to rotate, get that torque going. It just falls apart, and I am FRUSTRATED! I'm as flexible as a rubber band, but something is not connecting between my head, and my heart/body.

      I can't seem to be able to do this too. Looks so easy but when I attempt to do it, I fail. When I taught my 10-year-old son, he managed to do it straight away. (He's a yellow while I'm blue belt) and he's been bragging about it til now. I'm 34, guess I'm getting rusty. Gonna try again and get my coach to train me til I finally make it. Wish me luck!

    Jumping is on the spot and flying is usually done with a run up and you cover distance. Both are explained in the video. Thank you :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster
    @GingerNinjaTrickster  11 років тому +2

    The side kick by itself is on the ground so time really is not an issue when learning the move. Where as you only have a limited amount of time in the air to do a jump side kick. Hope that helps and good luck with your training :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster
    @GingerNinjaTrickster  11 років тому +2

    Hi :) That's great and i'm glad the tutorials have helped :) In my opinion, not really as they take time to do and are telegraphed. If they are done as a counter to a move or set up with something they can be more useful and have more chance of being pulled off. I'd say i use jump spin back kicks and hook kicks more than the basic ones as they are really good for as counters. Hope that helps and good luck with your training :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster
    @GingerNinjaTrickster  11 років тому +2

    The main one if you are doing a turning kick instead is to make sure you are bringing your leg around into a side kick chamber. It's all broken down in the tutorial so follow the steps/tips and i'm sure it will help you. Good luck :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster
    @GingerNinjaTrickster  11 років тому +1

    It is. Just make sure you bring the knee around and kick straight. The most common mistake is starting the kick too early and scuffing the board. Good luck with your grading :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster
    @GingerNinjaTrickster  11 років тому +1

    No problem :) In my opinion, no. I always find that the technique is sacrificed (ie. made shorter, not chambered, tilting back,etc) so it is usually less efficient for learning and understanding of the move. With attempting it off the rear leg you can drive your leg up to gain height and more time to do the technique more efficiently. If people struggle off the spot they can take a run up and use the momentum more easily doing it off the rear leg too.

    Don't feel sorry. He really enjoys it... well that's what he tells me lol I would say the side kick would be as most people lose momentum with the 360. The strongest straight line kicks in my opinion are spinning and jump back kick. Skipping and Jump Side Kick. Those kicks generate more force than you being in a car crash if your kick is efficient lol

      But, i take Karate classes (Karate Do Shotokai) and my instructor says that breathing like that actually does more harm than good, by doing that you are making yourself more like a brick wall, tensing up and making everything less mobile, instead of staying lose and having more mobility and power... so i don't really understand the idea that breathing out creates power, i have tried using that breathing technique and i find that it actually lowers power, flexibility and dexterity. This is just my opinion though. different styles i guess.
