Before you remove the door card, take the door handle cover off. The trim piece (grey in your car) pops out from the bottom and front side with 3 clips, then you swing it up and slide/push down on the top clips. Once that cover is gone the door card is 1000x easier to place which is why I assume they had such a weird cut during assembly.

What do you need to disconnect the battery if all the wire terminals are in plugs? Doesn't it seem unlikely that anything would arc?
