Swifty, get yourself a Subaru, either an Impreza or an Outback or something like that. You will be able to go anywhere (AWD) with decent gas milage and it won't look like you are driving a box with wheels. They have a good amount of power (a lot if you get a WRX/STi) and have plenty of room for people and space to spare to haul things (like prizes and stuff) around if you get a hatchback. I've had my 2011 Impreza for a year and it's amazing. Snow storm in Seattle and it didn't fail me once.
did you drain and flush the radiator? also you should put a mix of like 80/20 water/coolant as water is a better cooler and you live in florida so no need to worry about freezing if not much maintenance has been done but its still been driven alot the cooling system is probably dirty as hell. most of the time overheating is something very simple
Honda Odyssey. I know it's a minivan, but they handle like F1 racecars and you can get tons of extras. Both rear doors open and the windows go all the way down. Also, there's plenty of room for the crew. It is a very reliable and super comfortable vehicle and makes for excellent road trips. Just go black with a light gray, leather interior.
I am still learning at college but I learned that if you car overheats and driving like 10 to 20 miles its more likely that the you haven't got much coolant in the radiator as you said lilo hasn't put any type of fluid or serviced the car since she got it. Its less likely to be the thermostat or could be the cooling system sensor which senses how hot the engine is etc etc just get the car serviced and see what you get :D

Btw. If the fan still doesn't come on & the fuse is still good. Check the relay, & or engine coolant temp sensor. And make sure your circulating water. Could be a thermostat or pump. And check the coolant & oil for mixing of fluids. That would mean a head gasket.
I think you should get a blacked out new camaro SS. I got a 1995 camaro convertible z28 its got the 5.7 liter and it gets up and goes. you would look sick in it aswell.
Swifty coffeee time that would be funny what happened to your highlander you were going to bring back? I have 2012 Toyota 4runner and its been great I live 1k miles from my school I made that drive with all my stuff which fit in the back np. Gas milage is fine.
Japanese cars are really good and less expensive in case of a repair wich are rare on them of you keep up to date with maintanance. Enjoy your trip to colorado and be safe.
If its over heating and not cranking its more than likely a Head Gasket.. quick fix is take the thermostat out and flush the radiator then put a liquid called Blue Devil in the radiator (read the directions carefully) you can get it from an O'Rieleys Auto or Advanced Auto Part and it should fix the problem :)
Funny cus I've had a 2002 ford focus and I service it and everything. I've put maybe 9 grand on repairs. Up to you swifty but I like imports hell of a lot better.

Really depend on what you realy want. Skoda Yeti is practical big car but you need 1.8 or 2.0 TDi motor to save money on fuel. Toyota prius is IMHO rubbish but it's quite good car, and cheap on expenses.

Swifty - You should look in to just purchasing a comfortable Honda Civic/Honda Accord. Maintenance pricing is good, MPG is great, they're comfortable... They're all around great cars =). The care issues can be solved for cheap. Have a mechanic flush the radiator first, because it my be plugged up which would make the car overheat even if your fan is working.
Swifty do NOT get a hybrid, you save money upfront, but two or three years down the road you have to replace $2000-$3000 worth of batteries. What you should get depends on your price range, but dont get some fail car pls!
If your car is overheating that's your radiator. if you said the fuse to the fan blew, it could of burned a hole in one of the tubes ( usually inexpensive to replace ) or you could have a biger problem and have a crack in a headgasket ( could explain why luigi didn;t see anythign wrong because the headgaset is virtually impossible to reach without proper equipment,.) either way next time you start the car check underneath if it's dripping out water, check how much fluid you have in your radiator

Check out the Caliper, very affordable, yet stylish and roomy. Very nice on the inside, I test drove one about a month ago. I really liked it.
