    The solo on "No quarter" ,[live version] is just perfect fast bursts of notes ,and dynamics ,use of the wah pedal,, a masterclass in itself ,"the song remains the same LP is chock full of riffs ,solos ,licks ,never gets old.

      Absolutely David. His vibrato on the final no quarter solo is incredible!

      Yep - probably my favorite performance on TSRTS. Jimmy Page's delve into Jazz during No Quarter just shows his ability to translate his unique style of playing into a fusion of Rock and Jazz . I've been listening to that album for decades, and that performance never gets old to me, ever.
      Cool fact: Much of that movie was shot in a movie production studio, due to poorly shot footage from the Madison Square Garden dates that were originally recorded. As far as that actual track, I'm not quite sure if it was the studio performance or the audio of one of the live shows at MSG, but still awesome nonetheless. You can tell because some clips Plant's hair is slightly different vs the MSG shows etc..

    When I think of Page, he is the reason why I picked up the guitar over 35 years ago. His sound, style and riffs will always be legend. I can listen to many guitarists and love all of it, Page will always be at the top for me. Mick Taylor is another favorite of mine. Keep the music alive.

    • @hadenh6681
      @hadenh6681 2 роки тому

      The thing about Page is that he was really a pretty average guitarist, but everytime he played he conveyed a sense of freedom and excitement, same with Hendrix

    • @luisb5220
      @luisb5220 Рік тому +1

      @@hadenh6681 "average" hahaha man are you drunk? This man is a pioneer, he already played things in the 60s wich have never been played before. He is a genius when it comes to musical knowledge, recording and songwriting, a crafter of licks that every rockguitarist after him tried to copy (even when they didn't know) and therefore he is a legend on the guitar so calling him average is an insult...

    It’s funny because I’ve seen countless videos of shredders like EVH and yngwie and Paul Gilbert live and Evem tho it seemed like magic at first and in a way, still does… I’ve been able to figure out their secrets. Yet, Jimmy page is an entirely other entity. I still watch his live solos and I still have no idea how he makes his guitar scream like he does 🤣 dude is a magician first, musician second I’ll give him that much.

    Jimmy is good at keeping his hardcore fans on the edge of their/our seat. He has said he has stuff he wants to put out and just needs to get some guys to play it with him. A new solo album? New releases of older material he`s been toying with for years? He doesnt specify too much but does say he has material he wants to get out there. When? Who knows..

    Jimmy Page's legacy is quite amazing and he certainly deserves all the accolades one can muster for his work as an innovative song writer, studio wizard and live performer. He stayed true to his own sonic vision even though he was surrounded by several guitar playing icons in the making like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. He was equally talented as an acoustic player and electric player. The albums he made are timeless classics that explore several musical genres. He was a one of a kind that doesn't come along that often.

    Thank you David - absolutely loving all of this series so far. Anyone that's really listened to Zeppelin (I've been doing that for a very long time) will know that you've nailed Jimmy's solo secrets - the pivots, the Maj 3rd, the licks with open strings and more - it's all there. 100% agree with you about the books too - essential reads to understand what Led Zep were about.

    Jimmy Page and Vai are the reasons why I have a guitar. Why I love guitar. _How Many More Times_ solo was the most beautiful soul tearing solo I heard back in the days when all the other people were listening to hair bands. :)
    You’re awesome Dave. I just bought a wah! :) Can you maybe do an episode on using it? :) Cause I don’t know how to use it. …I got the CGB95. I know there are more expensive ones but I wanted the classic and that’s all I could afford.

    Jimmy Page: "Eddie who?" lol... what a guy! My voyage was the opposite; Though I was born a month after the Maddison Square Garden concert my older brothers raised me on Zep, so Page first then Eddie, both mind blowing players! Thanks for isolating the thinking behind these techniques. Since I've been loving you is my favourite showcase for Jimmy, but for Led Zep as a whole, Achilles Last Stand all the way, that song could easily have been 3 good songs for mere mortal bands!

    Great video! I really enjoy your conversational style and I have to say I also really like your playing! Sweet vibrato, man. Anyway, Jimmy Page is my all time, personal hero. There’s so much to learn from Jimmy beyond his soloing style (which I love): his compositions, production and sound expertise, fills, rhythm, dynamics, textures and on and on. Just listen, for example to a live version of The Ocean. In one song you get a hard rock riff, funk, and 50’s style rock, with incredible fills and transitions and dynamics. The breakdown in the middle: wah on, wah off, he might throw in a pick slide, some funky chunky rhythms etc etc. His imagination was endless and his in the pocket feel is incredible. For me he’s on the Mt. Rushmore of rock players with Hendrix, Beck and VH (ok add Iommi and Blackmore) but he also is the greatest in many ways beyond soloing.
