- Please see our previous videos showing grass cutting quality for each blade which are linked below. Today I will be talking about the purpose of each blade (Economy, Performance, High-Lift) for the Toro 60V Super Recycler and doing a short demo to show the suction/lift and mulching power of the blades.
Economy Blade Part # 144-3178-03
Performance Blade Part # 133-8183-03
High-Lift Blade Part # 108-3759-03

Good comparison. The performance blade is actually the standard blade from a gas super recycler. It's a good blade that Toro has been using for a long time. My 1996 super recycler also uses that blade.
I didn't know this, thank you!
I mulched a fair amount of leaves last year with the performance blade by making multiple passes every other day or so. It worked quite well !
You may be even happier with the high-lift blade!
@@jkprojectsnstuff697 I might at some point but for now I'm happy with one blade for everything. Maybe when I get a second 7.5A battery
Just the Information I needed. Thank you
Nice job. The display you made to show the blades is nice. The three pile of debris was a good test. Next up, using the sun joe detacher.
Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you! We had to put a little thought into this video. We enjoyed it, though! I've thought about a dethatcher. Is Sun Joe the one to get? Next video may be a side discharge. I have never used side discharge on this mower. We also have some projects coming up that we'd like to show. Decisions, decisions!
@@jkprojectsnstuff697 the sun joe detacher is amazing. I use mine twice a year over the past two years and from first to second years was a amazing difference in heath and growth. The side discharge will be interesting with the three blades, if I was to bet; I believe the middle blade will win. Keep up the videos I’m sure it a lot of work but I’m enjoying the journey.. thank you.
@@Dpixtion I will definitely look into the Sun Joe dethatcher. Thanks for the suggestion and the comments!
Great content and demonstration! I like to have options as well and would add the hi-lift to the arsenal. Thanks 🤙🏼
Thank you! Yes, options are always good!
Great comparison video! Do you get any stragglers with the performance blade?
A few here and there. I've wondered if any mower can mow without stragglers.
Can you compare these to the Oregon Gator Mulcher 3-N-1 Lawn Mower Blade For Toro 21-Inch 94-906 96-606?
This would be an interesting test to see if the Gator's mulching "teeth" improve the mulching into finer particles & provide any better lift. This blade is made specifically for that mower. The blades bend down lower to allow clearance for the gator teeth to avoid the deflectors under the deck.
I will definitely keep this in mind! Thanks!
I would have liked to see the same test with a bag on it to get a good idea of how the different blades work for bagging.
In my video from 11/21, I use the high-lift blade to bag leaves. The high-lift and performance blade do an excellent job bagging. The economy blade doesn't seem to pack the bag as well as the other 2 blades.
...just bought the Toro 60v super recycler. Haven't used it yet, but your videos are a great primer as I unpack and set up. Question: I have steep slopes and it's not practical to keep the yard cleaned up of small branches. Would using the economy blade allow me to mow over them easier without sucking them up into the blade?
Yes, the economy blade would be the best blade to avoid sucking anything up into the deck. Its suction power is very poor, so this will help in your case. Thanks for watching and congrats on the new 60V SR!
@@jkprojectsnstuff697 many thanks for your videos and for taking the time to reply to questions!
the eco blade is garbage, many people on reddit have reported returning the mower, then reality they should have used a different blade
Interestingly I just got off the phone with Toro a little while ago and they said the only blade approved for use with the current 60V 22” Recycler Max, my machine not yours, is the atomic blade it ships with. With these potentially deadly blades spinning around at ankle level I wouldn’t be comfortable introducing any potential metal fatigue by being a “1 percenter” using a blade not specifically approved by Toro for a particular machine. There have been accounts of blade loss or failure, in particular one account I heard of many years ago of a thrown blade hitting a chain link fence with such force that it partially wrapped the fence around it!
I feel like a lot of this is Toro trying to justify the higher price tag of the Super Recycler. The two mowers have the exact same motor, so what works for one should work for the other.
So exactly how is the performance blade the best? I always mulch my lawn. Never bag. The best for mulching? I usually keep grass high in the summer but I do bring the height down in late fall. Thanks
To me, it is the best balance. It's a great mulching blade and has enough lift to bag. I only use the high lift blade in the fall or after a storm to pick up debris.
Thank you for the video. Has Toro confirmed the high lift blade is ok'd for our 60V recycler? It appears to lack the taper on the back edges near the end like both the economy & performance blade have... I'd imagine it serves a purpose (more clearance around the kickers under the deck perhaps?) - so that's why I ask. I'm definitely interested in trying it out this fall for leaf pickup.
I haven't seen whether or not it is recommended for the 60V SR, but it is made for the gas SR. It's a direct fit. I love the suction power of the high lift blade. I use the performance blade 90% of the time, now. When there are lots of leaves or storm debris, I'll put the high lift blade on and bag. Thanks for the comment!
@@jkprojectsnstuff697 I guess I should have checked that before commenting - I just did and can see it on the official parts list for the 2022 gas version. So they probably don't "recommend" it due to battery life concerns, but luckily my yards are small. I can get through two full mows front & back with the 7.5ah battery... MAX setting w/ the performance blade on. I will say though - the included performance blade is really a kick-booty blade overall as it is. I know the Toro may not be the "most powerful" mower of the current bunch of e-mowers, but I've yet to see any of the competition match the Toro for cut quality - especially when mulching. And I'm not aware of any other e-mower that actually allows you to truly wash out the underside of the deck either.
@@jkprojectsnstuff697 Double checked with Toro and confirmed YES p/n 108-3759-03 is their “bagging blade” for the SR (both gas and 60V). Their parts catalog for the newest 21568 SR has it listed on the last page of “attachments and accessories”. 👍 Just picked one up and look forward to trying it out - all thanks to your video!
@@SiXX5150 I bet you'll be pleased with the suction power. It's definitely a useful blade to have.
@@SiXX5150 how has the toro 60v and that blade have worked for bagging? I'm a bagger and have heard of how bad the toro is at filling the bag up. One of the reasons why I'm looking at other E mowers.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. What about for grass? Also, you are making your passes at a painfully slow pace, that is unlikely to represent reality. Have you thought about making the passes at a normal mowing pace?
In our previous videos you'll find comparisons between the economy and performance blades cutting grass. Also, one of our recent videos is a first impressions on the high-lift blade cutting grass. This video was more intended to compare the suction power of each blade design. It also shows more of the purpose of each blade. Normally I would never mow over debris that is this thick. We appreciate your comment and please check out our videos showing the cut quality on these blades.
Did you ever do a test with the high-performance blade on the auto setting? Just curious what the run time was on it. I think you said on the max setting you got about 30 minutes of run time out of it.
I haven't, yet. Lately I've been keeping the performance blade on and running MAX setting. This would be an easy test, though. Let me see what I can do early next week. I'll have an answer for you. Thanks for the comment and please like and subscribe if you haven't already!
For the sole purpose of mulching leaves during fall, what blade do you recommend?
I'd use the performance if you're mulching leaves. The performance blade will pick leaves up better than the economy. I bag with the high lift blade, but it takes a long time!
how much battery life is between the performance blade and the high-life blade
I couldn't tell you exactly, but I do know that there is at least a 5-10 minute loss in battery life.
How about the blade with those notches in them? Supposed to be a great mulching blade?
I'm not familiar with this. I'd love to try it though.
@@jkprojectsnstuff697The Toro Atomic blade (OEM for the 60v Recycler Max) is what he’s referencing. Would be interesting to see how that would work on the Super.
I’ve been running a Toro SR 21382 (gas Honda model) that I bought new in March with the high lift blade. I’m beginning to wonder if it would have even more suction when bagging if the plastic kickers under the deck weren’t installed or if the accelerator on the blade was replaced with a standard recycler one without the wings.
I'm not sure how well that would work, but if you try it, would you report back? Thanks for the comment!
Removed the two kickers while bagging leaves today, didn’t notice much of an improvement (this mower with the high lift blade is night and day better than my previous Recycler). So, I’d say it’s not worth the hassle to take them out and have to clean underneath them to reinstall each time. The accelerator on the blade I’m not sure yet, I don’t have a blade adapter without the wings like a Recycler has to test with.
@@jeffrey.lebowski I'm wondering how much the Vortex technology will help the Super Recyclers. I saw that the new 2022 will have it.
We’re all three run at the auto setting?
Good question! I ran them all on MAX setting to make it as fair as possible.
Which blade is better for mulching, high lift or performance? How noticeable is the difference? Also, is the high lift blade noticeably better at bagging than the performance blade? Thanks.
For mulching, I'd say the performance. When I mulched with the high-lift blade I noticed that the grass was being pushed out around the deck, almost like there was no room for it under the deck. Although it was mulched and didn't clump, I didn't see the performance blade doing this.
For bagging I'm going with the high-lift blade. They may both do well, but the high-lift packed every sq. inch of the bag. I don't seem to recall any issues with the performance blade bagging, but I do know that I was very impressed with the high-lift for packing the bag.
Hope that helps and thanks for the comment! Please like and subscribe if you haven't already. We have more videos coming soon.
Hello, is the hourly battery usage the same for the performance knife and the standard knife at economy rpm
No, the standard blade gets more run time than the performance. The economy blade gets more run time than the standard. This is the result whether the power setting is ECO or MAX.
