This is why I recommend everyone buys the entire catalog of Bowie, because there's a hell of a lot more to Bowie than the usual songs that get mentioned. Love this track. ★

To transform a feeling of disgust into a thing of beauty is impossible, and yet he did it. What a poet...

Can't believe 30 years after I first heard one of his songs I'm still discovering new things

I like his lyrics so much although I can't understand all words of them. I'm Austrian.

I love this song. The best moment on Reality. 'There's always a moron, someone to hate.' Great line.

No more. It seems impossible. But so much to look back on. I look forward to looking back, the wrong way round, upside down.

More proof Bowie was from the future, unable to blatantly tell us what we were in for. Scariest thing is, he left before we could witness this all unfold

I always figured this song was about Dick Cheney. The references to oil, bombs, cruelty, corporate power, and the overall atmosphere of cunning and dismissal wafting through the lyrics seem to fit him much better than Bush Junior.

According to Bowie himself at the time of the album release, "It came from reading an article about Kellogg Brown & Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton, the company that Dick Cheney used to run. Basically, Kellogg Brown & Root got the job of cleaning up Iraq. What tends to happen is that a thing like an issue or a policy manifests itself as a guide. It becomes a character of some kind, like the one in Fall Dog. There's this guy saying, 'I'm goddamn rich'. You know, 'Throw anything you like at me, baby, because I'm goddamn rich. It doesn't bother me.' It's an ugly song sung by an ugly man. So it was definitely about corporate and military power." (Nicholas Pegg, The complete David Bowie, Reynolds & Hearn, 2006, p. 72)

@Drackkor I disagree with you. I felt that Reality had some great songs in it. It may not be the sound that we all know, but it was decent. I especially love "Loneliest Guy" and "Bring Me The Disco King" from this album

I know this song was written about Dick Cheney, but man, it sure seems like it could be about Trump. Prescient.

@mellobbello Couldn't agree more. Nothing on this album can beat the albums space oddity or the man who sold the world. Its ok music but Bowie is a God and true Bowie fans cannot accept the likes of this song. Average song, and Bowie aint average.

@Drackkor Now hold on... who of his peers has written something of the equivalent? The Stones? Davies? (yes, I think Ray's recent stuff is great, but not this good). Fall Dog is one of the best songs he has written, and there is plenty on Reality that is above par.

  •  12 років тому +3

I dont know if he is representing President Bush at the time, if he is representing a dialogue between America and some Middle Eastern country (and I dont know who of the both are the hope little girl)... But I know that this kind of song only could be written by Bowie.

Thanks so much for posting this absolutely gorgeous video, David Bowie is the greatest, and most charismatic genius of all time. I love everything he's ever done, and Reality is one of my favorites, being around the same age he was when he wrote this, I can really identify with it, one of the reasons his music is so timeless, it comes from the heart...and will Never Get Old : )

@mhwarrior I've been listening to David Bowie since I was 13yrs. I do like his vintage stuff, but I also like some of the new stuff, not all of it mind. I loved his 1: OUTSIDE, and really wish he'd continued it. Peace out.

I think we are dreaming our live away , when we are heard to much. To wake up is very hard to do but when we do , and we have the stringed to stand up again , then we go to be stronger because we learned from it . Hate brings you nowhere ,but it's somethimes hard to love things that heard to much!! I put on a other song then, till i love again!!

wonderfull things happen to me , the last year. When i get sad, or go down , somethings happen on tv, on computer or little things i see on the street , or in the Woods. Therefore i can stay happy al the time, it feels if HE is very near to me. I hope more people experience this, that they feel that some one great is there to help in the difficult periode!! It are the little things most people don't see anymore!! or appriciate !!
