林连玉先生演讲片段 Lim Lian Geok - speech (1980)

林连玉先生，老师，时人称之文化斗士，后人誉之族魂。
1927年只身南来马来亚，在此落地生根，见证这片土地从殖民地、自治政府到独立主权国家的演变。
1950年代，冷战方兴未艾，华人仍抱持落叶归根返回原乡的想法，他即号召华人华侨要把马来亚当作第一故乡，同时也对当权者喊话：”成为马来亚国民，是以尽义务、效忠诚为条件，不是以弃母语、毁文化为条件”，与当权者态度迥然，时人称之为“联合邦最有权势的人物之一”
1964年，因反对当局政策对民族文化不公平，遭褫夺公民权，便长期消失在公众眼前。
1980年，其大力促成的马来西亚华校教师会总会为一众元老举行80大寿晚宴，他久违地与公众发言，留下这一珍贵历史影音。
Lim Lian Geok, a Malaysian Chinese educator and civil rightist, migrated from Fujian, China , in 1927.
in 1950's, he become a Malayan citizen and encourages the Malayan Chinese immigrant to become one, and to settle their family in Malaya and vow their loyalty to Malaya, and propagate the idea of Abundance in Diversity, Prosperity in Co-Existence among races in Malaya.
His citizenship was revoked in 1964 as he opposes the cultural and educational policy from the government, that once he used to trusted with. Since then, he vanishes from the public sphere until 1980, when the United Chinese School Teachers' Association of Malaysia, invited him and several others veteran to attend the occasion and deliver a speech.
