Followed these instructions and did the job in less than 40 minutes. Video is so easy to follow and explains everything. Saved me megabucks, even a child could do this. many thanks.
Have to do this a second time now. Went right to this video again, glad it's in my history. It's not 100% perfect for my Pavilion m7, but very very close. It gets the job done. Thanks so much.
i just followed your instructions and i had to remove so much dust from the fan (literally a thumb's nail size ball) put it back together following the instructions in reverse and works like a charm. Thanks dude!
Thanks a bilion man! I used this as a guidance to take apart the whole machine, repair it and reassemble it. Just fabulous work you did on this great video.
Thanks very much for this tutorial. Just repaired my wife's lap top..in 3 hours for free. This was on PC Worlds do not accept list as it's so difficult to repair. Excellent video !
For anyone reading the comments.i used this video to repair my G6. You need a screwdriver kit like those they use to repair glasses. I used a tiny flat head to pry open the electrical connectors. The main thing however is that this video isn’t exact however it’s a general how to on g6. Mine had a couple of things in slightly different locations. I also recommend marking the screws your remove and where they came from to remember exactly which screw goes back where because there are a variety of sizes that can get mixed up. This might be an annoying job but it’s not difficult for anyone who doesn’t want to pay a repair shop. At the very least you should be comfortable/ experienced using a screwdriver and unplugging electrical plugs because that’s basically all this job entails. I have no idea how much they charge to do this at a shop but it cost me less than $10 for the fan and I was finished in a few hours. The hardest part is locating all the screws to come out since you can’t see each one in this video, and your g6 might have a few slightly different than shown here.
Thanks for that. Very detailed steps. Extremely useful. Now I need to go get some paste and a little brush before I put it back together. Awesome video!
Great video very helpful for anyone wanting to disassemble an HP G6 laptop. I had error code 90B but noticed the fan was blowing air but seemed to be running at 100% speed. I did a hard reset and that didn't help so the next step recommended by HP was to update the BIOS. After the BIOS update the problem was resolved and I also run a CPU stress test and the hottest CPU temperature was 77C.
I just did this.. In a little under 2 hours with a lunch break. I am a mechanic by trade but this was completely different! Was alot of fun and did let need a new fan. It was a case of alot of dust built up over time and stopped fan from rotating, so very happy to of saved a few quid as well. Give it a go if you have a spare afternoon. I'm off for a celebratory pint! Cheers!
Helped me but my G6 had much more screws and none in the battery tray but i got there in the end ! Noticed my hinges were very tight and had broken the mounts on the case ! A simple small 5.5mm socket helped loosen the hinges so they weren’t so tight ! maybe have to glue hinge to case or try get new one 🙄 Thanks your video was very helpful 🙏🏻
Hey computer companies,How about putting a single cover on the bottom of the computer with a compartment for a drop in fan.Having to take apart half the computer to replace the fan is ridiculous!
No, this an example of a bad design that is tolerated by consumers rationalizing that laptops are short-lived disposable items. This design facilitates easy(?) assembly not easy repair. Given HP's long and horrific reputation for heat-related problems, you'd think they'd make a concerted effort to improve the entire sink setup...especially the fan and easy replacement. I believe it was a Dell I fixed for a college professor that had two fans and easy access doors/panels for cleaning and replacement. Bad design tends to be like cancer and prevails in the end.
I just used this video to fix my laptop. Exactly what I needed, however, in the future please show how to put it back together afterwards instead of asking the viewer to keep skipping back in the video to put the laptop back together.
I didn't replace the fan since its a brushless DC motor. I took the fan blade out (lift the impeller from the motor assembly), air blow the coil, put a little tiny bit of grease on the shaft, then put it back. Replace the heatsink compound with a premium one. And its quiet and cool ever since. Will have to disassemble the laptop probably 1 year later to service again.
i get all the way to the fan to find out i need a smaller screw driver to get the final two screws. i wont be investing in HP again. despite this being an amazing video, the task to replace a fan is ridiculous
Wow..... This is great. If I give my laptop to a repire center, it cost minimum rs. 2000. You saved that cost. Thank you ... Good job bro... Good luck 👍
Thanks for this video. I was able to swap out my fan with minor changes to the process, now back up and running fine. Would suggest listing the reverse steps and the end.
I have a HP Pavilion g6-1d60us laptop and need to replace a bad fan. I want to order the replacement fan before taking unit apart. Some sellers say it has a 3 pin connector and others say it's 4 pin. Need to order correct connector. Do you know which it is - 3 or 4 pin?
so what happens if after the replacement the fan runs but no more picture loads on the computer? all things are plugged in properly but now? new issue.
This just happened to me. I want to order the fan (ebay) but I am unsure as the ad says "Compatible with Pavilion G6 200 series". how do I know what series my laptop is? Google is not helping! thanks to anybody that replies....
Good video but be aware that my Pavilion G6 2319 has a different keyboard that snaps in without clips so that was confusing to me until I noticed the keyboard in the video. Good job though it was still very helpful.
I'm not doing all that shit :-( They need to think about making cleaning and repairing things more notice-friendly when designing their next batch of models.
WOW! They would make it so you have to take the WHOLE DAMN THING APART just to get to the simplest most replaceable piece on the unit. Nice vid though but holy CRAP.
good video but i would advise putting the touchpad back on before the wireless card - as the mother board drops when you turn the laptop over - meaning all the weight of the motherboard is taken by the wireless card
Can anyone assist me I have a hp atheros ar5b125 and it used to turn on perfectly but one I dropped it, still worked well but the computer case cracked a little where the opwer button is and I usually hold it down when opening the laptop to keep the internals from being exposed but it used to cut out (the screen) a little bit when I held it too hard so oneday when trying to open it it cut out for good although the computer still gets power and can function under hdmi projection/ any others. So I'm wonder if anyone could help me resolve the issue especially TechMad
Hi Veronica, I have just ordered a fan for myself. I checked the model no. to make sure i ordered the correct fan. Which by the way was a 3 pin :) www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H9732ES/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
your video is great Thanks I have seen many time this type of message on my laptop ...............Now thinking to replace . where i can buy this HP Pavilion g6-1313ax Notebook PC fan in best quality . Please help
Thanks for the detailed video, although HP should change its design. It indeed is ridiculous to disassemble 90% of the computer to change a fan.
Exactly
Followed these instructions and did the job in less than 40 minutes. Video is so easy to follow and explains everything. Saved me megabucks, even a child could do this.

I'm a child and I did this.

Much better than all the other videos I have watched. Thank you!

For the first time on youtube; A real DIY video!
Great video! I just finished repairing mine. Happy with the result.
What about the thermal paste?
Thanks for that. Very detailed steps. Extremely useful. Now I need to go get some paste and a little brush before I put it back together. Awesome video!

That's kind of the point. They don't want you to go through the trouble of replacing the fan, they want you to buy a new computer.
thats not exactly true,hp does their best to post manuals for fixing it at home and parts are very inexpencive, you cant just put a fan whereever
No, this an example of a bad design that is tolerated by consumers rationalizing that laptops are short-lived disposable items. This design facilitates easy(?) assembly not easy repair. they would'nt do that .make your job easy
Great video - managed to successfully replace my processor fan -the first time I ever did a repair myself.
I just used this video to fix my laptop. Exactly what I needed, however, in the future please show how to put it back together afterwards instead of asking the viewer to keep skipping back in the video to put the laptop back together.
I never put them back together, as I sell off the parts
Nice video. I was able to change the fan by following this video. Thankyou

+Ernest Chee i think it is a good idea but can you tell me what is the heatsink
Very good video. I need to replace my heatsink and fan. Thank you for showing all the stages involved.
That's about as easy as it gets, good video showing how to dismantle a G6 HP Laptop to get a main board out. Many thanks, It helped me
Your tutorial helped me replace my hp laptop fan. Great job.
Thank you very much for taking the time to do this my daughters laptop is back, up and running.
i get all the way to the fan to find out i need a smaller screw driver to get the final two screws. i wont be investing in HP again. despite this being an amazing video, the task to replace a fan is ridiculous
Awesome video, couldn't have done it without you! Thanks :)
what is the part I need to order? any recommendations on place and product? I am in the US
Thanks for posting. I was able to follow along and safely dismantle the unit.
Very professionally done. Good photo work, too.
+Robert Stannard Sr What about that audio, though?
Wow..... This is great. If I give my laptop to a repire center, it cost minimum rs. 2000. You saved that cost. Thank you ... Good job bro... Good luck 👍
Dude are you a sri lankan
Thanks for the vid. Just replaced my G6 fan with your instructions.
I fixed my laptop my self! Thank you!
Nice job. Hopefully it's as easy playing this video backwards once I get my fan in! Thanks...
Thanks for this video. I was able to swap out my fan with minor changes to the process, now back up and running fine. Would suggest listing the reverse steps and the end.
Very useful and instructive, friendly and didactic
many thanks for this video , now I only need to find where to buy the fan
Thanks for this awesome tutorial. :) Just finished replacing the fan. Cheers.

Thanks from Bulgaria , it was very helpful video :)
Awesome! Worked Great. Thank you very much for your time in making this video.
can you provide part numbers for the new fan?
There are a few different ones, but this one matches the HP Pavilion g6-2210us: 680551-001
I almost forgot..Thank you for this guide
Phew! Thanks for this Techmad...now I've got to put it all back again!
so what happens if after the replacement the fan runs but no more picture loads on the computer? all things are plugged in properly but now? new issue.
Man, thanks for your work. This video very helped me.
Excellent, easy and detailed!
Does anyone know if this assembly is the same for the g6z - 1d00 model? Looks the exact same on the outside but wanted to make sure
Thanks, your video is appreciated. I hope you'll do more.
Thank you. Outstanding captions!
Just great and useful. Thanks a million!
This just happened to me. I want to order the fan (ebay) but I am unsure as the ad says "Compatible with Pavilion G6 200 series". how do I know what series my laptop is? Google is not helping! thanks to anybody that replies....
Thanks for the video. Helped a lot. I've installed fan successfully. :)
did they fix this in the newer models?
I guess that the way that the cooling is applied to the heat sync makes this setup necessary, but Holy crap what a job!!
For everyone who replaced the fan. Was the laptop shutting down unexpectedly before?
May I ask what tools you need to perform the disassembly?
They're called screwdrivers...duh.
thanks for such a educational video, very nice
which fan did u choose to replace?
Good video but be aware that my Pavilion G6 2319 has a different keyboard that snaps in without clips so that was confusing to me until I noticed the keyboard in the video. Good job though it was still very helpful.
Where can i find a replacing cpu fan for Hp Pavilion g6-1290sv ?
I have a question for you, is it really necessary to replace the van if my laptop gives the message you've shown on the beginning of this vid?
susanne borsboom I would yes, because if the laptop overheats you risk damaging the motherboard and/or CPU
Thanks!
susanne borsboom in a way it's good that HP added this feature, because if the fan did fail, then that isn't good news!
just got one to replace......thanks for the video....
I'm not doing all that shit :-( They need to think about making cleaning and repairing things more notice-friendly when designing their next batch of models.
You saved me 100 euros. Thanx mate.
Very helpful video! Thanks a lot.
Thanks, it made my disassembly much easier ;)
What if my keyboard is plastic, not rubber?
i think 4 screws is enough for fixing the back cover of the laptop.
opening this cover is very difficult .
thank u for the explaining
Thank you for this very useful video !!! :) I succesfully just cleaned a friend cooler an all interrior of his laptop :)
this works for pavilion g6-2105sp ?
THATS JUST FUCKING GREAT AS SHOW 7:15 AND YOU COVER IT THE WHOLE TIME
I wonder if a bios update was attempted first
jade no it wasn’t, the fan was absolutely wrecked
First of all that was a pretty nice video. How much you would charge for a repair like this?
WOW! They would make it so you have to take the WHOLE DAMN THING APART just to get to the simplest most replaceable piece on the unit. Nice vid though but holy CRAP.
Thank you very much! Spot on guide imo!
Thanks for the tutorial very handy
good video but i would advise putting the touchpad back on before the wireless card - as the mother board drops when you turn the laptop over - meaning all the weight of the motherboard is taken by the wireless card
I followed the instruction on the video and saved my ass £80. The hardest part for me was removing the keyboard, the rest is easy. I'm chuffed :)
So I'm wonder if anyone could help me resolve the issue especially TechMad
thanks for an easy strip.
Is it replaced with a 3pin or 4pin fan?
Hi Veronica, I have just ordered a fan for myself. I checked the model no. to make sure i ordered the correct fan. Which by the way was a 3 pin :)
