Original and very entertaining act, one of the best card tricks I have seen, but what a presentation! Smoothini's got competition!
Well i don't know if I'd call it original, I've seen it be done a couple of times by other magicians too.. for example: /watch?v=CAkdWUjdJyA .. but he's probably my favorite of them.
If Mat performed this trick on any other season of AGT or anywhere else in the world, he would have to tell a different story with those cards. The story is what is original.

backup cool Yea but you wouldn't have gone straight to the live shows. If he wanted to go strait through like david and leeman did it would be announced during Vegas week
And mainly the Golden Buzzer meant that the act just made it to Judgement Week, like any other act. This is why Dustin's Dojo and the ratchet exposers duo didn't go far. The first golden buzzer uses were just to piss off fellow judges who didn't find certain acts appealing (kinda like the first two times David Walliams in BGT used his golden buzzer on certain acts), later they became more useworthy.
Went to college with Matt. We were in different fraternities but I can Honestly say that from the time I met him to when he graduated, he was always the portrait of a genuine gentleman and an all around awesome guy. He actually did magic every year for our yearly Greek Week talent show and he always killed it. Won every time he was in it. I am so happy to see him succeeding in what he loves to do! Great job Franco! Keep it up!
As a Magician, I can tell you that even though the trick wasn't technically demanding, the performance made it. He took something old and overused and contextualised it beautifully in this context! For once, a guy other magician's can be proud of and that doesn't just ruin our reputation!
Super original. If he can do close up slight of hand tricks like that, he'll be amazing in the live shows.

I didn't know you were a magician....
This is why this guy is a winner! It's not about how simple or easy his tricks are. Any intermediate card magician can pull them off. But the way he manages himself on the stage, charms everyone, the thought he puts behind the tricks makes him amazing. The human card race, the one where he did a cups and balls routine with a poem.. ahh, this guy is just so brilliant.
Smoothini and Mat Franco in one season. Magic is going to be awesome this season

It's just the beauty in the talent these people have. It's almost unbelievable, yet so incredible.

As a 44 year old man that loves magic, this presentation was flawless and he knows his way around cards. Never saw any of the typical flaws. He's perfect!

It may look like simple trick to others but what counts is the way it was presented. It was entertaining.

The invention of the sequence and how to use cards with the tricks implemented in them is the real talent...the hardest part is designing the "skit" and getting the attention and keeping it...he does this by all making us wait for the next card to peel off...wondering what its gonna be and what its gonna mean..
i have done card magic for about 4 years and this is really good and i i'm pretty sure some off u have seen this trick but this guy made it even harder and the funny thing is that "normal" ppl can't even tell the "easy" way or the "hard" way i guees the "hard" way was just for magic ppl like me ^^

I went to see him last month in Vegas... Amazing show. "magic reinvented nightly" Thats so true. He would pick crowd members and keep us engaged and made a story about the night even with people's ages, it was great.

I watched this recently. Very smooth, not slow at all, and not like anything I've seen before. I think AGT at its best is more than just skill, but originality. Very impressive. :)

I was floored when I saw this!!! True talent! Let's go Mat!!! This show needs more variety acts to win the show than singers. Only Olate Dogs and Kenichi Ebina have been non singing winners. It's time for magicians and comedians to take the crown! Mat is leading the charge!

Well theres a thing called false shuffles, search up card mechanic or Richard Turner and youll see he can make it look like he is shufflling cards Poker Procedure even though not a single card is being moved from its original spot.

Pause at 3:23, you can clearly see there are two cards in his palm. BTW I am a fan, we all know magic is only the sleight of hands but the speed with which they pull it off is what makes them magicians.
