Mr Price was one of my favorite actors of that time period. He did many great thrillers and a few very funny movies . My favorite comedies he did was doctor goldfoot and his bikini machine and it's sequel doctor goldfoot and the girl bombs.

Oh, this is an excellent film! I hope they've got the sequel (they usually sell in the same packages). This whole era of horror films is great. Even the non-HAMMER films are full of dark humor and stylistic flair. The chat should be a blast for this one!

One thing I like about this movie is that Dr. Phibes is wearing a rigid mask throughout most of it and Vincent Price does all his emotions with his eyes while keeping a straight face.

*The Abominable Dr. Phibes,* a wickedly weird murderous mastermind dealing death with surreal style! An excellent exhibition for Saturday night's *Creature Features* featuring the laconic lovelies devious Tangella and dutiful Vulnavia. Wow! What a blast from the past. Growing up as a fan of Vincent Price, no way I could miss this movie. I was in the Marine Corps stationed at Millington Naval Air Station in Tennessee. The town had a theater that was old even then, with an upper balcony level and yes, believe it or not you could smoke in the theater. I wonder if that place ever burned down. It's been that many years since I'd seen this movie yet I can still remember scenes from it. Looking forward to watching this again. Love you guys. A bit weird sure, but who wants to hang out with normal (boring) people. Hey, I reenlisted multiple times; so what does that say about my sanity. Keep 'em coming!

Movie Trivia: The director originally intended to reveal that Dr. Phibes' beautiful, mute assistant was in reality another clockwork invention of Phibes. She was Phibes' most sophisticated robot, really an android. But for reasons never disclosed, that reveal did not take place. Viewers are left to believe she was a flesh-and-blood human, somehow programmed or brainwashed to obey Dr. Phibes as if she was an obedient android.

"THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES" was released by American International Pictures on May 18, 1971, and was later broadcast on The CBS Network in 1974. one of Vincent Price's better known horror movies of the 1970s, and American International Pictures also released "DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN" in September 1972. there was something of a bitter feud between Vincent Price and Robert Quarry ("COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE") on the set of the second Dr. Phibes movie, as Robert Quarry remarked to Price and said, "I'll bet you didn't know that I could sing did you?". to which Price replied, "well I knew you weren't a fucking actor!" AIP was considering replacing Vincent Price with Robert Quarry as "Dr. Phibes", given Quarry's two "YORGA" movies for the studio, but Mr. Price obviously prevailed, which would explain the toxic atmosphere on the set of the second movie with the two actors!

I remember buying this on VHS as a kid and being disappointed, as despite being from a later generation, there was something I loved about most of the gothic horrors of the 60s and 70s! But for whatever reason, I didn't really warm to Dr Phibes. However, watching it again years later, I found myself enthralled by the film! There is just something really charming about it - the biblical concept of how Phibes takes revenge, the art deco sets and brilliant physical acting and presence of Vincent Price. The Abominable Dr. Phibes really does stand on its own! Thanks Creature Features!

@@neilminer3099 Yeah, Elvira was a host for Creature Features, I think in the eighties. But Creature Features first aired from July to August 1969 on a test run, and it was found to be a hit. It was continued on the air from November 1969 to August 1973, but was cancelled due to poor ratings and competition from WPIX 's Chiller Theatre. Back in those days I wasn't much into B rated horror shows, but I now find some of them entertaining. And the hosts and company make the show fun. Dr. Phibes is totally unreasonable to not expect a poor surgical outcome of his wife in 1921: No antibiotics, only ether for anesthesia, no ventilators and endotracheal intubation, rudimentary xrays, no EKG/ telemety monitoring, no blood gas monitoring, surgical masks still did not cover the nostrils, lengthy testing to check electrolytes and renal function, and no CPR defibrillator equipment. And being treated in a British Hospital surgery theatre! .............And no drug screens to catch Victoria's secret cocaine habit that sent her into V-fib arrest. Just sayin'!

Vincent Price the King of Horror flick's. I thought Price only shot one Abdominal Doctor Fibes but to my delightful surprise will be twice or did he shoot more than two The Abdominal Doctor Fibes. Far out

But an exciting time for cosmetic surgery nevertheless, with so much interest during and after WW1.

That spy balloon over the Poulter Mansion is probably watching Tangella. China wants to know how you keep the pool from freezing over when she jumps in. :)
