Superbe video! I read an article about those two Squad rigs that works toghether, one with aerial platform and one without. Nice team. What exactly means "Hi rise"?
YES the History on the Development of the snorkel lift on the second Rig. The Chief back then saw a Tree trimmer lift and had the FD shops build there own special Rig. Great History and ideas from Chief at that time in History.
The odd thing is is that they use the actual rigs for the show's filming in between calls , and they use the real sirens in the trucks it's just the cameras that are used that cause them to sound different. During the filming of the TV show they have very little time to film before the real guys have to run off with the rigs.
@@josephbennett3482 not all are used by the real CFD. Engine 51 is a fake Luvern, it is actually a Pierce with a fake front. That was bought by the production company. @@austinlawler3739 yes they are all main units that are used for the show there is a behind the scenes video of the show and the production crew and the department both say that they have to film quickly before another call goes out. The trucks seen in Chicago fire are not only old spares and the such, as someone else pointed out. These current trucks with CFD use the Federal Signal EQ2b An electric version of the mechanical Q2b siren which to my knowledge was phased out of CFD usage due to noise pollution in the downtown area. The sirens used in Chicago fire sound like old Code-3/Federal signal sirens, perhaps even updated/older smart sirens. Which given my thoughts on the age of the trucks in Chicago fire would explain some things.
There is also one reserve snorkel (6-6-1) kept in service, a long-frame 80's-vintage unit. It only gets brought out as a special on massive industrial fires.
Green wasn't exclusive to command units in Chicago. Never was. Green on the right front (and only right front) on ALL CFD RIGS (not ambos) was a reference to Chicago's maritime heritage. @@stripemcr5722 while visiting Chicago several years ago I stopped in the Wrigleyville firehouse (E78, A6) and a firefighter there told me the green light on the passenger (starboard) side stemmed from maritime laws as Lake Michigan plays a major role in the city's history. It goes back to the 1920s, when Albert Goodrich was named fire commissioner. The scion of a family who owned a steamship line that operated on the Great Lakes, his heart was always partly on the water. To honor his maritime roots, he dictated that all Chicago firehouses display a green light on the left and red on the right, just as harbor entrances are lighted, and later this tradition was carried over to apparatus, with a red light on the port (left, from the con) side and green on the starboard (right).
1:25 I like how the red and green lights have been positioned, it makes it looks more like a boat ;-). Nice to see blue lights now too.

Does someone knows what siren is used there ? (I know it's Yelp thx, searching a brand and a model)
Colin Coisnard It’s a federal signal EQ2b
Right, I knew I ever heard it somewhere
@herewithcoffee siren on FDNY are same as these ones 😉
It's electric Federal Eq2b used by FDNY
Hofileña Mart Just for the record, Chicago has been using them a lot longer than FDNY
@1:14 the sound of that engine though😍
Ikkkk

Detroit 60 series with turbo. Best sound.

Firemedic10584 actually he changes it to a thumbs up, not the bird

What is the manufacture of the Squad 1? ( Ferrara Spartan ...)?
