As a christian I can say, he is of course right. I know that with every picture of Jesus, he doesn't look like this. For that reason I don't have any. Our church doesn't have any. I understand though that historically painters painted paintings with "Jesus" more symbolically because lots of people could't read in ancient times and they wanted to share the stories of how things happened, to remind them. But that didn't exactly mean it all looked like that. More like a storybook by pictures. It was not supposed to be a fotograph. But you are right, there are dangers in that.
