TheNightmareFish it was about a man who borrowed money from another man and he couldn't pay it back so he took a cat but that cat belong to a little girl and the little girl was really worried so she went out to find the cat but the cat like I said was stolen by the other man who couldn't pay for the money that he borrowed so the little girl helps the man get the money so in return the little girl gets the cat back
Basically a modernized retelling of Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist" but set in 1980s NYC rather than early 19th century England. It seems to borrow more from Lionel Bart's "Oliver!" than the actual novel.
Oliver and Company was one of my favorite cartoon movies when I was a little kid. I watched the VHS tape so often with my sister that it got worn out and I wasn't able to watch it for about ten years. I didn't realize that it was Billy Joel's voice until I watched it again last year. What a great realization. =) Two favorites together in one.
2024 This classic needs to be on Spotify from Billy Joel no offence to people covering but I just miss his voice for this song. Same goes for Ruth Pointer and the song "streets of gold"
Jacob Felger It's not speaking his mind that makes him a loser, it's trying to hook up through youtube that makes him a loser. But in the end, why should I care?
Courtland Sedlachek Well, to be fair, she IS actually rather pretty. But still, I guess it's understandable. Also, you had one chance to make a joke about the song with that last sentence, and you blew it!
I remember going to the movies anticipating this song because I'd heard it in the commercials ❤❤❤ I grew up on 80s music. Always been a fan of his work.
I actually saw this movie nearly 30 years ago 3 times in theaters when i lived in Omaha at age 6 like after Thanksgiving, before Christmas and after New Year's day and had merchandise like 2 t-shirts, coloring books, readalong with cassette, junior novel, CD soundtrack for Christmas (my first CD), Mug and stuffed Oliver. This is one of my favorite Disney animated movies for a long time and one of my fave Joel songs ever.
Robin Williams and 1992's "Aladdin" often gets credit for changing the face of Disney animated movies by having a big name in the central role instead of a regular voice actor, and it should get some mad props! And, a lot of people forget this little gem from 1988, Oliver & Co., with Billy Joel, a mega-star in his own right by 1988, who gave the music in the tried-and-true animated Disney musical a radical face-lift!
My parents took me to a Billy Joel/Elton John concert in Portland in the late 90's, and the only song I knew by Billy Joel was "Why Should I Worry". I was so disappointed that he didn't play it.
The likes from this video are from Oliver, Tito, Rita, Georgette, Francis, Einstein and even Dodger himself. Here are the reasons why: Oliver: Beacuse Dodger was his best friend and he even helped him with various situations. Tito: He liked when Dodger brought hot dogs when they were about to eat "newspaper burritos". Rita: She always loved Dodger. Georgette: She was about to dislike the video, but when she heard Dodger's song, she couldn't help but bob her head uncontrollably and instantly liked it. Francis: Everyone was impressed by his acting skills. Einstein: He loved when Dodger was telling a story about a "monster". Dodger: Beacuse he's known by the dogs as the "World's coolest dog"
i freaking had no idea... watched this like once when i was little so watching it recently and seeing billy joel's name in the end credits blew my mind. oooh oh ohoh OH C:
Any fans know why this never gets radio airplay , or that Billy never plays it live? Certainly one of his best. I have a gnawing suspicion Disney has something to do with it.
@@vadimbanner2024 That's too bad. Come to think of it , I don't recall hearing any Disney hits on radio in recent years. Aladdin , Beauty & the Beast , The Little Mermaid. Odd. I'll look into that.

But wasn't Joel nominated for an Academy Award for this song? From what I know, a performer can't be nominated for an Oscar unless he or she took part in writing the song whether it be the lyrics or music.
