Armin Hirmer’s channel has a lot of instructional videos. Also NuSensei shoots Asiatic bow from time to time. A thumb ring as opposed to a leather guard may help.

Props for admitting any ignorance, you don’t pretend you’re an expert and you have a vibe of someone who honestly wants to learn. I’m an instructor for this type of archery but am surrounded by recurve and compound archers, and sometimes it’s exhausting dealing with people who try to “fix” any archery style just because they’ve never seen it before. I did once have a bow like that, it actually cracked in the limb only 2 or 3 months since getting it. I also personally wouldn’t trust any kit that gives you arrows with vanes instead of fletchings, seeing as how your hand is now the shelf. But hey, it got you interested and that’s what’s important. Just be careful with that high draw weight. You were right, every asiatic shooter should start at 30

Hey man, just stumbled across your channel and really like your video style and personality. As nice as it is to see an affordable “Eastern style” archery set out there, I would say that a lot of the things with this kit impede a beginning (to thumb release) archer’s journey from the start. For one, that bow probably isn’t gonna give you the smoothness of draw that you would want when beginning thumb draw, as getting a much longer draw length is one of the advantages of shooting this way, at least in my opinion. Second, vanes instead of feathers are really hard to get consistency with because if you don’t do perfect khatra every time then those vanes are going to smack the arrow pass. For the money, I would highly recommend either the Tatar bow or the Genthis Khan (Early Mongolian design) bow from Alibow. And theres plenty of cheaper carbon arrows in the 600 to 500 spine range with feathers out there on eBay or Amazon. And I would highly recommend getting a Vermil plastic thumb ring (especially the Lantern ring) that is properly fitted to your thumb, and switching between shooting with your bare thumb and the ring, to get a feel of the string and build up more strength in your thumb until you get sore, the practice with the ring. Shooting with a bow that’s around 30# @ 28” will allow you to better learn to shoot with a 30” to 32” draw length and get more power and performance out of your bow/shooting style. Also, one thing I would like to point out is that bringing your index and middle fingers around the string when shooting with thumb release could very much be impeding your release. And since you’re not drawing the bow as far as you could, it may not show as much as it would if you drew past the ear. Typically when shooting thumb release, you typically want to try and keep your arrow and thumb in line with your ear lobe or jaw muscle the entire time you’re settling into the last few inches of your draw. Slavic/Persian style draw is a great way to also practice shooting on the right side of the bow, but using your fingers to give your thumb a break, and it still allows you to keep the arrow held to the bow while moving or riding. Armin Hirmer is probably the absolute best UA-camr to go to for everything on this subject. Justin Ma from the Way of Archery also has an insane amount of info on proper form and other things. But I would highly recommend the Genghis Khan in 30# weight from Alibow if you really want to shoot a more historical Mongolian style bow (not to be a history nerd but that bow you’ve got there is more of a Hungarian style bow) that can take lots of punishment. Also, you might want to look into other methods of stringing the bow besides the step through method, as Asiatic style bows are usually more prone to twisting in lower poundages than longbows. Anyways, I look forward to seeing more of your archery videos and journey, and I hope I haven’t made your head spin with an overload on information lol. If you have any other questions or anything else you wanna discuss that’s within my knowledge, I’d be more than happy to help out! Take care and God bless.

I likw thumb draw. Though an Ottoman style thumb ring made of bone etc might be more comfortable for you long run. Plus i find it easier to use. Btw thumb draw also reduces string roll that is caused by a 2 or 3 finger draw which will throw your shot off to one side.

according to you, you don't have any technical basis :
use the same profile attitude than olympic archers with your traditional bows, full draw (always) then you will be able to ancher, wait one second before you release
if it's impossible to stay 2 seconds before release, the bow is too strong for you
it's not becaus a bow is affordable that you don't need any precision, and for me precision with a traditionnal bow is between 25-35 meters (50 with an olympic recurve)
    courage !

Archery is always a serious as well fun sport to game in , for longer distance shots you do need to consider the wind speed , cross winds and also the drop angle as the arrow tends to dip a bit due to wind friction and resistance. Do try out indian archery style too you might find it interesting, as archery was extensively used in indian history if like to do the research. It would be awesome if you can get hands on the Rambo bow and arrows too😊.
