I think you have to have the right personality for this kind of task. My concentration, patience and hand/eye coordination are terrible. This dude has all those attributes in abundance and thrives off it. I hope you’re rewarded suitably for this work because you have a rare skill.
One may find artists, craftsmen, philosophers, photographers and narrators as good as you on You Tube BUT I cannot imagine finding any better. You are a gift that I and many others appreciate.
This is my favorite watch channel because Nekkid Watchmaker takes it to another level. Not just humor but you make everything look so easy. No long dry commentry, no elitism just a good lad doing extraordinary job, repairing watches, giving them second or third chance. I hope you and your family are doing good and that we'll see so many more videos from you in the future.

@michael mccann ... Kinda crazy, so much radioactive material, for such a short period of useful functionality. A mere 1,600 years for its half-life, but barely half the usage life of a tritium based illumination. One has a short half-life that limits it usage period, the other can't last even half that time due to the decomposition of the zinc matrix it's bounded with; but then thousands of years of radiation still left.
When he made the “sounds like a bad marriage” comment, I had the best laugh of the day..maybe the week or even the month. 😂😂 It totally caught me off guard. This man is intelligent, witty and downright hilarious at times and his videos are mesmerizing. One of my favorite channels on UA-cam.
More men like this one is what this world needs. There used to be more, before we decided that money was the most important thing. How foolish we were. Past generations learned that lesson for us, but we didn’t take heed. Now, we are seeing the results, but it isn’t over yet. We still have a long road to travel. I am sad about leaving this broken mess for the next generation. But my travels are almost over now, so I do my best to advise my family and friends. I listen to the old radio programs fro the late ‘40’s and ‘50’s to keep my spirits up. I can hear a maturity and optimism in their voices. It is unmistakable, like a Southern accent. I am reminded of what we once were and could be again. Or should I say, will be again.
Astonishing craftsmanship on a fine old watch that, to me, looked beyond saving. The skill, attention to detail and untold patience demonstrated in this video is truly mind boggling. The end result may have been far from perfect to your expert eye, but to me it looked practically flawless and I would be proud to own and wear such a beautiful vintage timepiece.
The smiley face on the finger was a nice cameo! I loved the "Loudmouth McJones who can't keep a secret and told the accountant that I had bought a new camera. And when I say accountant, you know who I mean" comment. LOVE!
I know this is an old video but I’ve been watching all of your videos lately as I’ve been working through some very stressful events. Thank you so much for all that you do because it’s not just about watches. It’s so nice to see someone who understands that.
When I saw the watch at the begging, I thought no way this watch is going to turn out. Boy was I wrong, it turns out beautiful. Great job and thanks for sharing it with us.
I am an old retired auto repair tec who just today found your post. I greatly admire your love for God, your trade and human kind. If I weren't down in southeast Texas I would love to share an ice cream amid an interesting conversation on life in general. Stay great to your trade and fellow humans kind sir! I will enjoy your videos for as long as you provide them.
I’ve been watching every single one of your videos since you began. And this is one of the videos I recall watching during our lockdown here in the U.S. - and much like yourself, I’m something of a sentimental man. I intentionally sought this video out again, as what you mentioned - that you hoped when the dark days were over, we would remember the kindness, compassion and love for one another - stuck with me all this time. Here we are, 4 years later, and what we’re seeing…well…maybe we can still hope. Until then, I’ll keep watching you perform your magic on these beautiful pieces of micro-mechanical history, and enjoying your narrations, poems, history lessons of the world of horology, and as always…I wish you and your family well. Thank you for doing exactly what you do. Cheers!
"this act of bravery became a shocking and traumatic ordeal causing him to place the watch in a drawer and curl up in a fetal position" reminds me of the time I attempted to spray paint the roof of my wife's car. What was shocking and traumatic for me was the looks my dear wife gave me when things went south. great vids brother, love your narrative not to mention the astonishing beautiful results of your work
This is my kind of thing. The time and patience required to take apart something so complex to my eyes, clean it up and put it back together, without any left over parts.....superb. I'm fascinated and have learned a lot about many of the watch companies thanks to your inciteful and funny commentary. Whoever gets their watches returned after being so lovingly repaired/serviced/restored are very lucky people I wish you and your family all the very best for the future
This was the first vid I watched of yours and almost 2 years later you inspired me to learn watchmaking and I can service my own watches. A big thank you to you for your love and care in your vids. Without it I wouldn’t have tried. So this is my fav video.
Unbelivable.. Work.. Men.. Watch.. everthing was make me forget about my dayly troubles.. its just so wonderful to listen to your voice, and to see what you can make, out of a totally damaged watch. Men, you are blessed!
I’m a minor collector of watches with a Rolex GMT I received when I retired from the USAF. I later bought a Breitling Navitimer which just sits in my gun safe. Sitting here watching you disassemble that watch left me in awe. It’s amazing when look at what kind of skill and absolute genius it takes to build an amazing time piece. Awesome video.
I think that is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. What makes your videos really special is your voice-over. I enjoy the bed-time nature of what is more of a storyline than something purely technical and I love the technical info you mix in with the story. There is more to visualization than good camera work. I feel like I'm seeing a far broader image due to the quality of your voice and writing. Keep up the good work.
I never thought I would find a strip down and immaculate rebuild of a watch so interesting. I loved your humour. Very droll. I was completely drawn in . Thank you.
In an IT era when most people favour smart watches, I am absolutely happy to see the art of restoring an old grandfather's watch in a most professional and competent manner. The process of dissembling and assembling is manificently vivid and the end product is amazingly superb! Wait to see more from you.
What an amazing restoration, and from a classic period in time. The nostalgia involving that timepiece can only be surmised. Perhaps sometime in the 1940s a well-to-do gentleman went into a shop and that watch caught his eye, and he purchased it. And who knows for how long that watch served his needs of timekeeping, perhaps decades. It really is a handsome timepiece. I love seeing things restored to their original luster.
What a wonderful video. This has deeply touched me. Everything about this piece I find sensitive and beautiful. The commentary is both hilarious and informative and I would like to project all my love and respect. Truly wonderful
When the watch comes back to life it’s like watching a beating heart returning life to body. It’s truly beautiful to behold and stirs my own heart. These watches are so much more than machines; they are a creation of human hands that are a reflection of ourselves. Thank you for your sensitive videos, my friend.
This video always comes up on my feed, and i watch it each time. The origin, the conflict, the resolution -- such a beautiful story, and you narrate them very well sir.
You mentioned having OCD ( 25:54 ) approx. My watchmaker daughter has OCD, too. But guess what? Billie says that watchmaking saved her life from the slavery of OCD which leveled out her obsessive worries! After many struggling teenage years she is now excellent in this craft, just like you and with her I thank you, so much, for this enlightening video. I'm watching this in my lunch-break. You are such a joy, Joe. Many blessings to you and your family, Wendi 🌻
In this disposable, mass-produced, digital age, this is so beautiful. I want to save what little I have left over each month, to buy one of these works of craftsmanship. Something to one day pass on to my granddaughter.
Very satisfying! It had everything. Humor, love, chemistry, lume, ice cream, kids, history, nicely pronounced French, watchmaking, complicated works, cleaning and restoring, and good music. Kudos and cheers!
This channel makes me so happy. You're so humble and dedicated in what you do. Your interactions with your son are pure joy, and as an ex-pat Brummie, it's like hanging out with a friend.
The finding of this channel here on yt is like coming to an inspiring and beautiful place on a long, long journey. I'm just blown away by this man's attitude.
It really is amazing to see how great this community is and all the ppl who comment and talk about how they love your work. this is a dark time and people can be so quickly to judge others but I know if I need some encouragement or to hear a kind word I can come here. From the bottom of my heart and from my family to yours I am greatly appreciative of the work you do sir.
Here's something you could add...the owner's reaction when you handover the restoration! I would love to see the reaction...sort of a reveal on all your videos. Cheers and God bless!
I've been hooked for the last 5 years now! Started collecting ice watches and I've bought and sold my way up to the likes of Omega, tag Heuer and other various pieces
Right? I love the crazy UA-cam suggestions. I discover so much great content that way all the time. I love this guy already and I'm only halfway through the video so far.
This has to be the 3rd time I've watched this video Joe. Master watchmaker and all round great human being. I find myself re-watching your videos over and over as I find myself learning each time, thanks.
I've watched this video 3 time now and still love it. Simply amazing how you can take a 'damaged' work of art and restore it to it's former beauty. Thanks and stay safe!
My grandfather was in the business of repairing and manufacturing watches. What a beautiful profession.. Love and admire your work. All the way from Sri Lanka!
I can’t begin to imagine the satisfaction you get from completing such a project. I know nothing about watches, but watched beginning to end out of respect for the craft.
Just fascinating listening to the master, and who would expect a nail file and an earthquake to be part of this drama? I “watch” every episode holding my breath but by some miracle it all goes back together.
when he finally finished, after the last polish and shine he wore glove 🧤 not to leave sweat, body oil, or fingerprints. You can tell he is a perfectionist.
Dear kind Sir: your talent is amazing. Your thoughtfulness and OCD processes are complete. And you were a poet on top of it. God bless you and yours. Everyone stay safe. 🇺🇸♥️
Just a quick tip: did a 1940's Record Watch co nickel replate and first did a copper underplate to fill some of the scratches - you will have to remove less base metal and retain more of the original shape/angles
I am a cabinet maker and do exotic carvings. You should see my saw cuts and a half thumb. I am in my 85 year and can still count 10 fingers som partial. Love your talent voice and skills patience . You are truly one of a kind god bless.
Hi to all. Yes Switzerland has 4 languages and I said two. Smack my wrists. I should have said “ the two main languages in relation to this topic”. Now at least you know I don’t know how to use google haha
I'm so grateful to have found such a gentle, kind and magnificent man. I'm loving the restorations, the chat and the wisdom. This is what I go to UA-cam for.
I ran across one of your videos by complete happen stance a couple of weeks back and have been down the rabbit hold ever since. After working for the government for many years, I am looking at retirement and a second act to keep me out of trouble, a must since I am unsupervised (meaning unmarried). Years ago a friend (engineer) turned me onto watches as beautiful pieces of engineering art. I have collected and cared for a few of my own now but never considered working on or restoring them. I absolutely love your detail and running commentary and humor. I can't get enough. I am looking into timepiece repair/restoration classes even now. Thank you for sharing.
I'd like to see the family. As a grandfather I remember my son being exactly the same as your six year old. Whenever I was doing something he'd would have to sit between me and whatever I was working on so he could see what was going on. And now the grandchildren are doing the same thing.
I can remember as a kid I would always be intrigued and amused with things my grandfather and father(grandfather worked in steel mills in Pgh,PA and father was a heavy equipment operator)would work on and always found myself not only watching but doing anything I could to learn what they were doing whether it was just handing him tools or trying to tighten up a bolt or what have you.I like to think that because of doing that with them im able to do the things I can do today 35yrs later.I take pride in the fact that im able to figure out how most mechanical things work and how to fix them for most part.if there's something I can't figure out I always find a forum or come here to UA-cam and find a video that relates to what im doing then im usually able to fix what I was working on after I have more knowledge of what I'm working on.can never have too many people in life that are influential to you.
Seriously, I haven't watched a video of this quality in a long time! Enjoyed every bit of it; the homey vibe, the little ones laughing.. everything, simply everything. I was sad it ended. Well done mate!
Total support for going with the nickel look, instead of gold. Good call. I trust the new owner also loved the contrast of an austere exterior and the warmth of the face.
The Einstein equation and the flux capacitor sketch made my day. I really enjoy it. :-)
And I love the fact he didn't even mention it

the reason why you are so successful is because you make so interesting videos.. you might be the best watch repair guy on UA-cam.
You are not just an artist and craftsman, but a magician. Excellent job. It was amazing. 🖒👏
You polished the hands ... by hand!?
I had no idea paying this level of attention to a watch was even possible. Fantastic content.
Things polished by hand... not as crazy as you think!
Nekkid understands that he is not only a mechanic. He is a conservator and restorer of a mechanical object that is a work of art.
?????
He did say he has ocd, he pays extra attention to the little stuff.
Carl, do some searching on the net. Watches are fascinating. Most high end Watches are totally polished. JLC is one of the best watches even today.
I stumbled across this and I am hooked.
I love watches and I just stumbled on it I love pocket watches oh Lord I'm hooked I could do this and I'm going to
I've been hooked for the last 5 years now! Started collecting ice watches and I've bought and sold my way up to the likes of Omega, tag Heuer and other various pieces
Same here.
Right? I love the crazy UA-cam suggestions. I discover so much great content that way all the time. I love this guy already and I'm only halfway through the video so far.
me too
Your work should be in museums. This is art.
I'm so glad that YT managed to put this video on my watch list somehow. It's really lifted my day!
Thanks Dave
There's something so gratifying about seeing a vintage watch restored to its original beauty and function.
My heart was touched when you spoke about your friend and your trade choice at the end of the video. You are both blessed to know each other.
What a beautiful and mesmerising journey we've been on with this master watch maker. I salute your craftsmanship.
Have nothing to say but 👍. A real watch master.
when he finally finished, after the last polish and shine he wore glove 🧤 not to leave sweat, body oil, or fingerprints. You can tell he is a perfectionist.
"Curl up in a fetal position" after screwing a project. Yep, been there.
havent we all? learning fees ;)
@@glock17games "learning fees" LOL.
Love and care to you and your family, Joe! Thanks for the sensitive restoration.
Dear kind Sir: your talent is amazing. Your thoughtfulness and OCD processes are complete. And you were a poet on top of it. God bless you and yours. Everyone stay safe. 🇺🇸♥️
Thanks Pamela
Love you and your kind gentleness
Wow, the storytelling aspect of the intro is poetic.
Just a quick tip: did a 1940's Record Watch co nickel replate and first did a copper underplate to fill some of the scratches - you will have to remove less base metal and retain more of the original shape/angles
Just glue it back together and it will be fine. The humor is outstanding! ;-)
Fabulous, mesmerising and so therapeutic, a master at his craft.
im just shocked how humble a person can be . man u are officially one of my favorite UA-camr 💙
This is such a wholesome channel. Fascinating content. Well done.

From 41:17 on is almost poetic. I hear the respect, pride and love in your voice. I see it in your work.
Emjay thanks mate
I'm so grateful to have found such a gentle, kind and magnificent man. I'm loving the restorations, the chat and the wisdom. This is what I go to UA-cam for.
Thanks jim
Thanks Richard, good luck on your new journey down this rabbit hole. It will be fun
There is no way that I would remember how to reassemble a watch once taking it apart, hats 🎩 off to you !
just training
I'd like to see the family. As a grandfather I remember my son being exactly the same as your six year old. Whenever I was doing something he'd would have to sit between me and whatever I was working on so he could see what was going on. And now the grandchildren are doing the same thing.
Thank you Brian, that’s really sweet
You are the most wonderful kind and feeling person I have ever watched .... THANK YOU
Try Bob Ross :)
I watched this a year ago and came back again for another look. Stunning.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Seriously, I haven't watched a video of this quality in a long time! Enjoyed every bit of it; the homey vibe, the little ones laughing.. everything, simply everything. I was sad it ended. Well done mate!
Beautiful human being and love his family. What an extraordinary watch.
Total support for going with the nickel look, instead of gold. Good call. I trust the new owner also loved the contrast of an austere exterior and the warmth of the face.
"A shocking and traumatic ordeal,"
Have you ever considered writing a book? You have a real flare!
Lol
Maybe a children’s book
HE IS AN ARTIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
