I appreciate you explaining the camera app in a way even we non-techie types can understand. So many reviewers feel the need to go 200 MPH in their descriptions and squeeze in 458 tips in three minutes. Thanks!!
I’m adding my thank you to many others for this well explained video of the iPhone camera. I’ve spent many frustrating hours trying to teach my 78-year-old sister how to use her iPhone 8 camera and you’ve done it all in just over 17 minutes. Now she can watch this over and over and save my sanity thank you....Now I’m going to go look for your video on my iPhone :-)
Thanks for the comment! I’m so glad my video helped. I have many more on all the iPhones so hopefully there is something for you. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
That people use their valuable time to create concise, informative and very useful videos such as this one is proof that there are still some good folk left in the world. This has been an excellent tutorial. Thank you.
The flickering is because you have fluorescent lighting in your room. It flickers at high rate that your eye doesn't see. The camera slows it down in slo mo and records it as a visible flicker
Bought a iPhone 8 upgraded from a 6s and really was sold on the superior camera and this video pretty much helped me understand everything I didn’t understand or know so this gets a 👍🏽
I’ve been using iPhones for many years and I had no idea about these camera features. Granted newer features are there with newer iPhones (i.e. iOS) but your review has taught me quite a lot, thank you! 👍👍
Great overview. You missed only ONE feature! In the photo option the volume rockers not only take a photo, they will take multiple exposures if either is held down with a counter indicating the number of shots taken! This is VERY COOL! Good for fashion photography. Also would be helpful to indicate WHERE photos are stored.
Thank you for probably the most comprehensive video on the iPhone camera yet. Although i have a 7+ there are only a few features missing so very good stuff.
Your slow motion light flickering is probably diode lighting. Most diode lights have a certain fast rate they are flashing in not perceivable by eye. A camera taking timed photos can pick up the on and off. It's like looking at diode lights in a cars rear lights with a digital camera and seeing lights blinking when just by naked eyes you don't see the blinking.
My first ever smartphone is in the mail... :-) This video was SO helpful! I'll be watching it again when I start taking photos. Thank you VERY much for such clear and concise instructions!
Whenever I take a video using iphone 8 plus, the option to switch is gone. So I ca't switch on my face and the sorrounding in an instant. I just my iphone a few months ago and I still have a lot of things to learn.
The flashing in the slo mo video is because That’s the result of the alternating current passing through your light devices. It’s also why city lights flicker from a distance, the speed of light is quite modest.
Thanks for a super clearly explained video! It'll help me get the best results from my new 8 plus since I've learned some new tips to exploit its full potential.
Great video. I hate this camera a little less now. My 8+ seems to lag. I take a lot of action shots. The picture I see while hitting the shutter is never the picture that I get. Miss my 6+. Now that I know, I will have to search the live mode pics to see if they're in there!
The new high efficiency mode is impressive. On an iphone 6 plus 1 minute of video at 1080p HD at 60fps is approximately 175MB. But on the 8 plus is only 90MB ( 14:40 ) WOOW!
Thanks! I needed this very informative video :) I've got an issue I'd like to see if you know of.... When I take pictures, I most times see a blue dot that saves onto my photo. Have you noticed that happening? Any ideas?
I can't post a picture on here for you to see the blue dot appearing in my pictures when I take them with my iPhone, but I sent one to your Instagram acct... Ty
Excellent tutorial thank you. Only one thing is not working for me is video Pause can you please tell me how can I do that? I already tried many times like you said in the video.
Thank you so much for replying the problem is when I shoot the video while shooting I can’t pause it. The only option I see is Red button Which one only stops or shoot. In your video you mentioned everything very well for new users of iPhone but can’t see this Tip or trick in your video too. Is there any way to Pause the video while shooting?
Dan, I do have a question, I listen alot to music when I commute and I have a Bose earpiece which is good but the wiring is cumbersome. Can you recommend a wireless earpiece and I dont want headsets (ruins my hair haha) but it warms up the ears and I prefer earpiece. Thank you and look forward to your recommendation.
Magdalena Koh i know this question was directed towards him but would you look into beats x ( more commuter Friendly) there’s bluetooth wireless or the powerbeats 3.
Hello and thanks for the info, great video indeed. I only have one question: How can I have my Iphone 8 plus camera screen without showing the "1x" and "2x" in the middle of it at the bottom ? I use the Iphone to record my videos directly on Screenflow, and when I do, Screenflow is capturing on my footage that 1x icon inside this circle (or 2x, it changes when I press on it). That 1x however disappears when I turn the camera into "selfie" mode. I hope Im making myself clear. Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately you can’t remove it as it’s built into the app. It’s to allow you to zoom in and out. The only suggestion would be to download a different camera app in the App Store.

+Woody Woodrome oh wow I didn’t even think of that! Thanks for the info.
I wonder if recording in multiples of 30 is the cause since electricity is 60 hertz. Perhaps that’s a good reason to record 24 fps.
Thanks Mr Woody Woodrome! Good to know!
@@DHTV critical flicker frequency
Great job! First time student, will continue your series with thanks!
Your video is great. You took your time and didn't talk real fast. I have shot some good photos but now I will know what I am doing. Dumb luck!

You have a wonderful teaching style! So glad to have found you.
+Susan Johnston thanks, really appreciate it and glad to help. Feel free to ask if you have any questions down the road.
Do you happen to know approximately how large a print can be made from the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 10 if the focus is sharp and the lighting is good?
+Susan Johnston not really sure. Been looking on google but haven’t found much on the new phones yet.
I think the flicker on your slo-mo is due to the lighting you're using. It has a frequency which is not compatible to use for video shooting
I have the same issue, hope they address it in the next update and fix slow mode. Great info too.
+D Johnson it is due to the lighting. If you have the white light it actually flickers and the camera picks it up.
This will really help me in using the camera of my new 8plus. Thankyou :)
Awesome, glad to hear:)
Excellent job!!! I will continue to review and to use your suggestions!

I want to get an iPhone 8 to record martial arts videos, i want the iPhone 8 because it has 4K at 60 fps, which would capture my fast movements better. Is the iPhone 8 plus better for this than the iPhone 8?
I don’t think there is a difference in that aspect but you should research it a bit more.
What kind of stand are you using to hold up your iPhone 8?? Can you give a link?
It would be either amzn.to/1fBNc8z or amen.to/2dydpmf
Thank you so much for detailed tutorial. I love you.

Hi Dan - Thanks for the fantastic video. You mentioned some flashing in the tutorial that you were not sure about. My camera does not do that so maybe there's a bug in your camera - Cheers Barry
+fosterbarry no problem, glad you liked it. It’s actually being caused by my studio lights. They have a slight flicker that our eyes don’t even pick up but the iPhone does.
In video, slow motion, my phone iPhone8 is doing same as yours, sort of vibrating
Also Dan, may I ask you, I notice that there is no tutorials on selfie, like close up of an eye, where every detail is visible? Samsung 9 have that option, and it’s awesome clear, every hair and dot in an eye.
It’s the lights used that cause the flickering. Also the iPhone front selfie camera isn’t as good.
Cheers mate - very helpful!
