  • Kami City is located in the eastern part of Kochi Prefecture.
It is close to Kochi City, the center of the city, and next to it is Konan City, Aki City, and Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, which is famous for Iyakei.
In Kami City, which is full of nature, there are spots that are famous nationwide.
    It is Ryugado Cave.
Ryugado is one of the three major limestone caves in Japan.
After passing through the shopping street and climbing the stone steps, you will see the entrance to Ryugado Cave.
Ryugado Cave is a limestone limestone cave that was created over 175 million years from the rainwater that accumulated in the basin near the summit.
The total length is about 4km. About 1 km of it is open to the public as a tourist course.
Compared to Ryusendo Cave and Akiyoshi Cave, Ryugado Cave has narrow passages and is difficult to walk, but you can appreciate the stalactites up close.
    "Stone Flower Palace"
It is a space where stalactites in a shape reminiscent of flowers spread all over the wall.
    "Room of Great Height"
As the name suggests, it has the highest ceiling in Ryugado Cave.
It has a height of about 30m.
    "waterfall of the Flying Dragon"
This is the second largest waterfall in Ryugado Cave.
You can see the Ryugado's largest waterfall "Memorial Waterfall" ahead.
In 1931, Mr. Hiroshi Yamauchi and Mr. Masami Matsui of Kochi Prefectural Junior High School Kainan School climbed this waterfall, and it was named because the whole picture to the exit was found.
The rainwater that accumulates in the basin near the top of the mountain permeates into the ground, and when that water reaches the limestone, it becomes water that is close to neutral while expanding the cave through cultivation.
The stalactites are recrystallized from the dissolved calcium carbonate when this water flows on the ceiling and walls.
It is said that it takes 70 to 100 years to grow 1 cm.
    “Back view Waterfall”
It is a stalactite with a height of 6m, reminiscent of a flowing waterfall.
    “Boaded Screen Waterfall”
This is also a stalactite with a height of 6m and a width of 4m, reminiscent of a waterfall.
It is a natural art that takes tens of millions of years to complete.
    “Tiring Hill”
    "shindoi-zaka"
It means very hard in Japanese.
That's where the name comes from.
After passing through the tough slope, you will reach the highest point of Ryugado-Cave, Osaka Pass.
This is located 80 meters above the entrance.
Bats live in the ceiling of this underground space.
The sightseeing course, which is 1 km from the entrance and takes about 1 hour, leads to the exit here.
Lastly, while researching the history of Ryugado Cave in the process of making this video, I learned how local people were involved in the discovery, research, and preservation of the cave.
In particular, I was surprised that there were many local school teachers.
I was very impressed that the names of the teachers and the local high school history club were included in the participants of the historical discovery, and that they were properly recorded in the survey report.
The cave, which was originally 400m long, is now one of the three largest limestone caves in Japan.
It was two local teachers who discovered the unknown large cavern that stretched for several kilometers.
If you have a chance to visit Kochi, please take a look at the art of water that has been shaped by the passage of time.
    It's a very nice place.
    Thank you for watching!
Please write a lot of comments! Let's talk about various things with everyone!
