What there was, was the Soviet famine of 1932-33, of which some 1 in 4 people were in the Ukrainian SSR, millions of Russians and half of Kazakhstan died too. It's still debated whether or not it was deliberate, what is certain is it had nothing to do with "ethnicity" and more to do with "class".

I lived in Ukraine in 2014 and watched the Maidan with my own eyes. Everything that is said in the film is true. But this is only a small part of the reality that was there... Every American must see this film to understand what is happening between Russia and Ukraine right now.

Back in 2014, a family of refugees from the Donbass arrived in Eastern Siberia. We have prescribed them in our house. The horror that was on their faces will forever remain in my memory. They said: "It was terrible to be at home, but it was even more terrible to run away from this horror." After all, a bus full of people was blown up before their eyes, they were shot at and in every possible way prevented their departure. I remember how their child, when someone set off fireworks in our city, in fear began to fall on the sidewalk and cover his head with his hands. Almost 8 years have passed, but this family still remains the same kind, strong and good, despite the horrors experienced.

Thank you for this documentary. I am a Russian citizen, but I only had a fragmented picture of what was going on in Ukraine, our neighboring country, throughout these years. It is very important to have the full story, because, however complex it may be, there are patterns that repeat themselves in many countries. Evil uses a limited number of patterns, and when people are aware of them, they don't work as well.
Who is this documentary for? For stupid Muscovites and corrupt Schroeders? I am a citizen of Ukraine, and I have a clear idea of what happened in Ukraine, because I myself witnessed it. It would be nice to make a film about the explosions of houses in the aggressor country, in 1999, about the involvement of the FSB and Khuilо personally, about his "hybrid wars" in the post-Soviet space, with the label "small victorious" (Georgia 2008, Crimea, Donbass 2014) and in general about Rashism as the highest stage of Nazism in the 21st century.

Yeah, the name of the documentary seems VERY intentional so people googling “on fire” trying to find this doc will mistakenly believe the Netflix doc is the same thing.
Context is super important. I feel like no one in the US really asks or understands the full context of what is happening in Ukraine today. Is there any person who actually knows anything of a full scope of the issue? I found the name of this doc on a board and I am watching it to try and understand the "why" better.
People don’t understand because we here in the US love a good underdog story. They don’t realize the neo-Nazi presence in the Ukraine and how it’s been a driving force behind these revolutions. I will say, even after watching this. It is heavily slated to make America look like a bad guy. Not to say that the points they bring up aren't worth mentioning. But it doesn't seem like it holds the whole story. I will say this as well, one really good point that was mentioned was the influencers staged by people with money. And this comes from all wealthy areas of the world, not just America. They play with the lives of others using their money and the power that it holds over people. Common people die due to those that would use their power for things like inciting movement through force. I still don't think that I can get behind any reason Russia has given for invading Ukraine proper recently. In my eyes, its just another use of power to push a people in a certain direction.

It is definitely a shame how some countries between major powers become used as playthings. It would explain why no one wants to take Ukraine in if they don't want to share a border. There are definitely some bad actors out there that don't really care about the general populace. the worst being the ones that pretend to care, using that as their platform to extend reach. I try to at least not take things at face value and have some deeper understanding. Everything happens for a reason, and reasons are usually monetary driven. I have enough sense to know at least that people are being mislead/controlled in media often and it takes a willingness to look further into an issue to have any real understanding.

Thank you for this documentary. I'm Russian, and bearing in mind the widely spread rusophobia of the last years, was surprised to watch such an unbiased documentary. I hope, some day governments of some countries will stop interfering with other countries' policies and mind their own business. I remember when I went with my mother to Sochi in about 2016. We were passing some village that was located near the border of Ukraine, an elderly couple sat down in a compartment with us. My mother talked to them and they said that the river that flows from Donetsk or Lugansk (cities bordering Russia) often brings corpses. Obviously, these were the corpses of children, the elderly, pregnant women, the disabled, and so on. Nobody would throw the corpses of military soldiers into the river. There are many more victims than you think. Russia didn't cover it because we weren't prepared economically and militarily. As soon as we could cover it we had to fight back. We did just that. They exterminated the Russians on the territory of Ukraine. We had no choice.

So, I watched it because I wanted to look/hear both sides of the story. Well, the most shocking scene started from the very beginning, a young boy emerged from the middle of protest wearing a scarf printed a large portrait of Nazi leader and Holocaust perpetrator Stepan Bandera. Alan MacLeod reported Last week, “PBS Newshour interviews the Mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, presenting him as a hero for killing Russian invaders. However, despite his Zoom blur effect, you can clearly still see that behind him is a portrait of Stepan Bandera.” The American journalism has just reached at another zenith?

Concerning propaganda film - remember that Oliver Stone is an Oscar winning Hollywood film maker. Some people might say Ukraine on Fire is biased...and of course that can be said, because it's presenting an important perspective supported with lots of facts and history. But in contrast, Winter is leaving out many relevant facts, and relies mainly on terrible tragic scenes to get an emotional reaction, instead of conveying deeper understanding for the viewer.
While fighting back with threats and violence is and remains wrong and unjust, I now have a better and clear understanding of why Russia is on the offensive. Putin needed a war because Russia as a military might has crumbled. He wants to tighten his grip and make the USSR again. This documentary is severely one sided biased media. This is making out that Ukraine is a Nazi populated country and Russia is a Saint etc... Nazi's are dead, others might follow some of their ideology, but they are not Nazi's, they are just extremists. But this is not even 1% of Ukraine. To invade based on this is an absolute joke. Nato doesn't want conflict with Russia, they have worked hand in hand for decades. If anything, they'd love Russia to join NATO. And if it was the old humble Putin, he would have joined. But his corruption since going with the oligarchs has corrupted his mind and his intentions are not now with the people or Russia, but only for his self gain and power. No Nuclear bombs are closer to Moscow from NATO, but he has moved his to the borders of Belarus and edges of Ukraine to point at Europe. Don't sit and watch these documentaries and just take them as facts, do actual research and references and you'll soon learn they don't add up or certain things are exaggerated for media purposes. Don't get me wrong, the US and most of the countries in NATO governments are corrupt, but that is not the nations or the people. But even still, look at the quality of life difference between those in the west vs those in the east.
Truth is always the first to be suppressed out of fear that it will expose the lies and true intentions of certain governments and organisations, that create havoc and human suffering for their own greed. There's is not doubt about who is a fault here, and who is being entirely blamed for everything. This is a great documentary.
Just an observation and one that really pisses me off, it wasn't Russians, American and english, it was Russian, American and British forces, from wales, Scotland and Ireland, NOT just THE ENGLISH who fought the war! The situation in Ukraine is very complicated and Oliver Stone does a great job (as usual) laying down the facts. My Jewish family arrived in America in 1903 from Odessa. Their papers said they were Russian. Now I understand why our state department and tech giants currently support the Nazi side of the Ukraine. One can only hope that western Ukraine separates from the east letting Russia take back the territory that is ethnically Russian and currently aligned with Russia. The Nazis can then join the EU and align with their political brethren. God help us all.

Context is super important. I feel like no one in the US really asks or understands the full context of what is happening in Ukraine today. Is there any person who actually knows anything of a full scope of the issue? I found the name of this doc on a board and I am watching it to try and understand the "why" better.
People don’t understand because we here in the US love a good underdog story. They don’t realize the neo-Nazi presence in the Ukraine and how it’s been a driving force behind these revolutions. They don’t realize the US is only interested in setting up puppet governments to suit their interests. They don’t realize because they are so in love with the story peddled to them. 🙈🙉🙊
I will say, even after watching this. It is heavily slated to make America look like a bad guy. Not to say that the points they bring up aren't worth mentioning. But it doesn't seem like it holds the whole story.
I will say this as well, one really good point that was mentioned was the influencers staged by people with money. And this comes from all wealthy areas of the world, not just America. They play with the lives of others using their money and the power that it holds over people. Common people die due to those that would use their power for things like inciting movement through force.
I still don't think that I can get behind any reason Russia has given for invading Ukraine proper recently. In my eyes, its just another use of power to push a people in a certain direction.

There are definitely some bad actors out there that don't really care about the general populace. the worst being the ones that pretend to care, using that as their platform to extend reach.
I try to at least not take things at face value and have some deeper understanding. Everything happens for a reason, and reasons are usually monetary driven. Thank you for this documentary. I'm Russian, and bearing in mind the widely spread rusophobia of the last years, was surprised to watch such an unbiased documentary. My mother talked to them and they said that the river that flows from Donetsk or Lugansk (cities bordering Russia) often brings corpses. Obviously, these were the corpses of children, the elderly, pregnant women, the disabled, and so on. Nobody would throw the corpses of military soldiers into the river. There are many more victims than you think. Russia didn't cover it because we weren't prepared economically and militarily. As soon as we could cover it we had to fight back. We did just that. They exterminated the Russians on the territory of Ukraine. We had no choice.

So, I watched it because I wanted to look/hear both sides of the story. Well, the most shocking scene started from the very beginning, a young boy emerged from the middle of protest wearing a scarf printed a large portrait of Nazi leader and Holocaust perpetrator Stepan Bandera.
Alan MacLeod reported Last week, “PBS Newshour interviews the Mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, presenting him as a hero for killing Russian invaders. However, despite his Zoom blur effect, you can clearly still see that behind him is a portrait of Stepan Bandera.” The American journalism has just reached at another zenith?

Everything is shot in crisp HD. They just happen to have perfect shots of Molotov cocktails thrown by the police, they happen to catch some of the people they interview in the midsts of battle getting the perfect shot of them walking around with no other people around. All their interviews are of civilians whose stories cannot be confirmed. They also mention nothing about the historical background, no mention of the nazis that were involved. No mention of the US senators on the ground, etc etc.
People say this one is propaganda, and always points to Winter on Fire, but to me it is the other way around. Winter on Fire is all feel good, protesters did nothing wrong, they are angels. Produced by Ukraine, UK and US, director is Israeli-American.

Concerning propaganda film - remember that Oliver Stone is an Oscar winning Hollywood film maker. In any documentary one should be aware how their emotions/thoughts are being manipulated by master artists. Question everything and recognize bias.

Some people might say Ukraine on Fire is biased...and of course that can be said, because it's presenting an important perspective supported with lots of facts and history. But in contrast, Winter is leaving out many relevant facts, and relies mainly on terrible tragic scenes to get an emotional reaction, instead of conveying deeper understanding for the viewer.

Nato doesn't want conflict with Russia, they have worked hand in hand for decades. If anything, they'd love Russia to join NATO. And if it was the old humble Putin, he would have joined. But his corruption since going with the oligarchs has corrupted his mind and his intentions are not now with the people or Russia, but only for his self gain and power.
No Nuclear bombs are closer to Moscow from NATO, but he has moved his to the borders of Belarus and edges of Ukraine to point at Europe. Don't sit and watch these documentaries and just take them as facts, do actual research and references and you'll soon learn they don't add up or certain things are exaggerated for media purposes.
Don't get me wrong, the US and most of the countries in NATO governments are corrupt, but that is not the nations or the people. But even still, look at the quality of life difference between those in the west vs those in the east.

The situation in Ukraine is very complicated and Oliver Stone does a great job (as usual) laying down the facts. My Jewish family arrived in America in 1903 from Odessa. Their papers said they were Russian. Now I understand why our state department and tech giants currently support the Nazi side of the Ukraine. One can only hope that western Ukraine separates from the east letting Russia take back the territory that is ethnically Russian and currently aligned with Russia. The Nazis can then join the EU and align with their political brethren. God help us all.

When you look at how many views this Video has and take into consideration most people would have watched it twice, It's a hand full of people. The USA along with Britain have engineered this crisis and will profit enormously from it, as they always do. They have been trying to get the rest of the world "onboard " as they say, to be anti-Russian for all of my life. Shame on them. Every life lost from the First to the Last is down to the one's who started this war, who could have prevented it, and is STILL fanning the flames, and it's NOT Russia or Putin.
