- Join me as I travel to City University in London to discover if I am colourblind! In this video I describe how I discovered my challenges with my colour vision and demonstrate how the new CAD test works to test a person's colour vision.

I had the same set of tests and was also scored outside the range on the CAD. I scored 14 and the threshold is 12.
There are still options available to us. You can get a Class1 but it will come with a restriction of Day time only and NCAT which is NO Commercial Air Transport. You can still do other roles with a CPL. Things like aerial survey work, SEP. You can also flight instruct.
Also I should have said - love your channel and have watched a lot of your videos for both FSX and even some of my PPL.
I'm sorry to hear that, it sucks doesn't it? At the moment I've only got VCL on a Class 2, not sure if I'll get NCAT as well if I go for a Class 1
Hi Joss great vlog and I really admire your attitude to the whole eye test thing. My two sons are colour blind but I am ok, think it is from my wifes side. I hope things work out for you in the next few steps in your aviation career. Also It's great to hear a fellow aviator/simmer and Invernessian! Maybe could meet up at EGPE some time, I live in Westhill. Anway all the best.
Yeah since recording that initial reaction, I've learned a lot more about pilot licencing and I don't think the colour vision will be as restrictive as I initially feared. I'm up at EGPE every day ;)
Hi Joss,
Good to see you are back on line but sorry about the half-bad news.
I am sure you will overcome and find a suitable path to avoid the obstacle.
Very interesting reporting on your eyes testing at City University. Thanks.
I would like to know what is the nice soft piano piece of music you use on the way between Inverness and London.
Looking forward to Episode 3...
Take care.
The music is a song called "A Quiet Thought" by Wayne Jones. It's available through UA-cam's Audio Library.
Exactly I was thinking that CFI
You are an Aviator don’t give up
Hey Joss great video, please keep up the great work as long as you can find time :)
Will do, the next vlog shouldn't take as long to make.
Hello Joss, Great video. I have just gone for my initial class 1 and have been told I have a colour blind issue too. (Blue/Yellow). I have a class 2. Not sure of my next step to becoming a CPL. Do you have any advise for me 🙂 thanks Nick
Do you have a "Daytime Only" restriction on your Class 2?
Hello; no, I just need my glasses
@@nbarnes22250 It's worth checking with the Aeromedical Examiner again but I think you should be OK. I know that the CAA have tighter restrictions on Red/Green colour deficiency rather than Blue/Yellow. If they have not put that "Daytime only" on your medical then you should be clear to go on and get your Class 1 and CPL/ATPL licences
Luton is horrible
hahahahaha glad you have humor and included 7:22 (which is what i was thinking to be honest everytime u say SC0tlanDD) and i like your attitude in general and honesty keep it up! thumbs up from now on!
Same here problems with green and red... fun to navigate at sea during night. But still always arrived in one piece! Good luck anyway with the future plans.
Very interesting video. You are a very good cinematographer and story teller. I think you'll make a very good instructor. You should be teaching. Dreams come and dreams go.
We had a few stolid school nurses in my elementary school days, like 1000 years ago....anyway, I do recall having some brief vision, hearing and maybe a general physical test
in early elementary school here on LI NY. I never had any sight issues until getting a bit nearsighted in my later high school days. Then there was the jr. high school gym exam,
in which we all had to line up at the school nurse office, and get examined by....wait for it....DR. WEINER, (no bullshit) who had to grab yer testicles and make you cough and all that!
That was loads of fun. But, was he related to Dr. FrankNFurter? I also recall the wonderful scent of PHISOHEX clinical hand sanitizer and soap in the nurse's office bathroom.
I love the smell of PHISOHEX in the morning.
You can't Bullsh*t a Bullshi*ter. There's no point in trying to Cheat, But I wish you well for the future
So, in the end, did you become a flight instructor? What's your job now?
Very much the same with me, you certainly accepted it better than I did when leaving the test! Certainly a real shame considering there's no way around it!
I know how you feel. Aer Lingus knocked me back on color vision when I went for the medical. Then I became an engineer, but I have to do the Farnsworth D15 every two years to pass my medical. Thankfully I pass with no errors. My reds and greens look the same when reduced to a tiny dot.
Hi Joss. Great video. Your determination is very inspiring. You will remember as one of the best teachers. Just imagine one day an astronaut saying that he learns his basic aviation from a guy who is not a pilot.
Thank you for your video. I'm studying for a private pilot's licence to fly microlights and I've been following your videos for explanations to clarify what I'm reading in my books. I never knew that you are also colour blind. As I've been progressing in my lessons I've been thinking that I'd like to be an instructor, maybe even a commercial pilot. This video has helped me tremendously. Now I know that I need to take the CAD test to find out if I could pass a class 1 medical. It's very useful knowledge.
No problem at all! I'm glad the video could help give some insight!
Getting hyped!
Man, thanks for this! I've got exactly the same problem, but with blues, rather than greens. I am going to book one as well! I'm inspired by your attitude! Great job mate, and keep it up!
It's a really cool experience and as I say in the video, you'll get a very accurate understanding of what your colour vision is actually like.
i have got the same problem with red light gentlemen , today i‘m gonna find out if i would pass a this test or if i will ever be able to get a class 1 medical
Best of luck Nix, fingers crossed for a positive result!
@@nixnix8154did you pass?
I've only just caught this video. Good to see you are positive about your future in aviation and I wish you every success. I've been watching your videos for a long time and they absolutely scream out TEACHER! so if you ever have to change career you're a natural for that.
As I say towards the end of this video, it might not affect me as much as I feared when I initially received the bad news. There's still a lot I could do so all is not lost. I'm incredibly fortunate to be working within an amazing company which is giving me several avenues for professional development so we'll see what happens!
That's bad news Joss, on a lighter note tho getting yr PPL then instructor certified is still a possibility and a rewarding challenge mate. Fingers crossed for you mate😎😎
Yeah it's definitely not the end of the world, after learning a bit more about licencing and medical restrictions, it really might not be as limiting as I first thought.
nice vlog, doofer really enjoyed it. I'm also stuck in a dead-end IT carrier and greatly disliking it. Wish I could get into aviation or something entirely different from IT but I guess I'm too old to start over. Keep the vlogs coming! :)
Nah you're never too old. The industry needs pilots right now so now is a good time to get involved with flying.
Hi Joss, have you looked into Color Blind Deficiency Contacts? I have a friend who uses them and he says it works.
I've heard of colour vision correction but unfortunately the UK CAA don't recognise any form of colour vision correction at this time.
Great video! Very interesting re the specifics of colour/sight problems and also the way the video continues the story of your life journey. The thing that joins everything together is your will to share and teach, in the most interesting, sensitive way. PPL might be just a beginning, and you'll be there before long. This seems certain!
I hope so, my PPL training is progressing nicely at the moment. I just hope to keep the videos interesting and informative along the way.
What a fantastic vlog 😀 My goodness, you are such a handsome man! 😉 Absolutely brilliant video, which is usual for you Doof, I loved it all. Definitely more episodes please. Big hugs xxx
Time to make the donuts.
You're too kind! There'll be plenty more videos :)
When is the next video joss??
Hi Joss, is that a standard reading card in the school medical facility?😉
......... maybe .......
Bad news but a brilliant video. loved the animations.
I'm glad the time and effort that went into production was worth it! haha
waiting for this doof
Great video
I'm glad you liked it, thanks for watching :)
Finally a vlog
Yeah it took a while to get this one out, next few videos hopefully won't take as long!
@@Doofer911 Yaaayyy.. Happy flying !
Great Vlog Joss
Cheers Allan, hope you're keeping well :)
@@Doofer911 I am, update, I got to go fly a week ago, first time flying in years, and I recently started the process of getting my student pilots certificate.
What scenery do you use egpe or eggw, just from watching and completing your tutorial airbus x loved it!
