    I just got mine and I'm super impressed with it. I started desoldering stuff from old boards just to test it and it was so much fun I didn't want to stop. One safety thing - occasionally it'll shoot molten solder out when you depress the plunger, so point it away from you.

    Have just bought a similar model of this generic design. An easy way to remove the plunger and storage tube for cleaning is: (1) fully depress plunger; (2) insert a flat small screwdriver between the plunger end and the main body; (3) gently lift the screwdriver handle to lever the plunger and storage tube away from the main body. This disengages it from the clip holding it. I haven't used the desoldering pump yet, but I'm hopeful it will do a good job.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi...from what i have seen from some other reviews, it is easier to remove for cleaning if it is cocked first. Seems to take some of that pressure off, i think. Thanks for the review. Good stuff!

    THANK YOU FOR A GREAT REVIEW ~
    After seeing it I ordered one of my own: "DeSoldering Iron 110VAC 40 Watt" on AMAZON. $13.44 (U.S.) including shipping! Higher prices on eBay as of today. Apparently there is a "30 Watt" version too, but it is about $20 US..
    I own several 'stand-alone' metal solder suckers (very similar to this), but they have no iron built in. THIS unit appears to heat evenly and quickly + the solder sucker!
    I saw another UA-cam demo using one to replace a tiny (bad) USB connector on a 'Tablet'. I asked the poster about the model and info on the sucker but I didn't receive a reply.
    The other guy used 'dots' of 'liquid flux' that he applied with a 'Q-Tip' just before removal... THAT REALLY helped the solder flow quickly and that connector was replaced in under FIVE minutes ~ with NO apparent damage to neighbor parts!
    I will continue to use my original metal solder suckers on most jobs, but I want this one to last so I will use it only on my most 'delicate' tasks.
    THANKS AGAIN!

Thank you for a review

      @@gnulectures actually today i got this pump, it's not very good for very small solder joint, even adding a more solder to it doesn't help. But for big parts it works good.

    If you only need to desolder a few connections, probably good. But it's not much for a lot of connections, and moreover delicate and close to each other. And it has one big disadvantage, namely that the temperature of the tip is not stabilized to a certain temperature. Sometimes you overheat the joint and other times you heat it up too little. Today, a lot depends on the type of tin, lead-free needs about 40 degrees higher temperature and if there is not enough power, then you heat the joint for an unnecessarily long time and the CU path can peel off and damage the board. In the end, I bought a ZD-915 desoldering station on sale, the soldering iron has a power of 80W and the suction is quite strong. The main advantage is that I heat the joint for a very short time and, in addition, the tip is still heated at the selected temperature. Quite a different job, although I spent a lot more money on it. But I don't regret it.

    I found a much easier way of disassembling it.
    Rotate the plunger halfway and then push it down till it clicks. This should make it push against the base, leaving plenty of room to use a flat headed screwdriver to wedge the whole thing out without damaging it. Keep a thumb on the plunger so it doesn't explode when you release it

    Excellent review.
    My only concern would be if you were wanting to do fine removals with it, desoldering ICs etc . . . 40W and the size of the nozzle might be too much for such work.
    What say you?

  • @KrisCochrane
    @KrisCochrane  7 років тому +1

    Hi again, I think I know what you mean. It works well on everything really, multi layer boards are no problem as it's 60W and thoroughly melts the solder on both the top and bottom of the board. Obviously lead based solder is easier to remove than lead free so you might have difficulty on modern boards but that would be the case whatever the equipment you are using.
    Hope that helps you.
    Cheers

      @anthonycardenas9177 6 років тому

      A tiny dab of "liquid flux" applied with a Q-Tip (on both sides of the board) REALLY promotes the solder-flow!

  • @guily6669
    @guily6669 4 роки тому

    I got this too recently but haven't tried it yet, it looks like it works amazing, I always had a hard time to remove big parts with only my 11W JVC soldering iron and a manual pump which most of the times when I pressed it right after the solder was already kinda drying lol...
    Do you know if we can change the tip of this and use it as a soldering iron? Mine is only 11W and for thick stuff sometimes I have to put a lighter jet style to heat the tip more as the iron is too weak :), 40W if it even is that would be enough for me for anything...

    god I could never desolder until I bought one. it's freaking amazing! mine was 5$ and had a slightly exposed wire and the tip smokes like creazyw hen I plug it in and makes me cough a lot and the wire is idioticly placed near the tip which I had to zip tie to avoid hitting it with the iron again but overall IT WORKS SO GREAT EVERYTIME. like it took me ages to desolder properly with this it takes like uuh 1 second?
    mine was 60w tho. and I regret getting it that high maybe that's why I have the smokes?

    10:28 - Its ok to clean it like that, but dont put it back dry, because there will be no vacuum, that rubber seal must be lubricated with some oil, so it really suck air when activated.

    Virtually impossible to remove the glass cylinder without straining or breaking the plastic surround. No rubber O rings for sealing the vacuum. Glass held in place by friction only. No spare tips of different sizes available. However I suppose for the price it is adequate but could be vastly improved with a little thought.

      Thx for your response, Chris. Well, there are pc moterboards in wich some components are soldered in more than one point (up & down, for example), so, i saw those Hakko expensive machines working, & obviously are capable of it. I was wondering if you tryed it in pc motherboards & if you found any difficulties tryin' to desold some components. Thx a lot.

    Ha! That's a Velleman VTDESOL3U Vacuum Desoldering Pump. They're a Belgian company. I guess their factory in China is stealing a lot of them and selling them as their own!

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 6 років тому +1

      Uhmmmm not quite. It's ZD-211 by ZhongDi, a northeast Chinese company that is more than half a century old and has been making this very product for a couple decades now, and chances are it's their own original development, i've seen them around for a long time under numerous brands, well before Velleman. There are also South Chinese copies of the product, but they can't be sold in Europe because they aren't or can't be certified, and although this isn't the best made product in the world, those from the South are even worse, and it's not even possible to find out who makes them exactly.
      Most major companies that sell electronics would have an awfully thin catalogue if they only sold their self-developed products. Velleman sells 18000 products, most self-branded. How many of those do you think they develop themselves? Probably a few hundred, which is par for the course of the company this size, and i think most of the self-developed products are DIY kits, the tools are just offered to round off the catalogue. See what they claim about themselves: "Velleman purchase office in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan" "quality control of each purchased product" - so you see for most of their catalogue, they scour the low-cost OEM market for white label goods, select the ones they like, certify and import them under their own brand into Europe, States and Canada.

    Great review. Designed and sold by Velleman and others. They come in different wattages. Getting the cartridge out is a hassle, a bit clumsy for some tight circuits but great price. Buy several as the plunger will fail eventually (when you need it the most). Not a pro tool, just handy. >>>>www.velleman.eu/products/search?q=soldering&group=342858&lang=en

      Nothing wrong with it for the hobbyists among us, only needing to desolder occasionally. And for the price it’s a no brainier.

      Ya, I would be very hesitant to use 60 watts because 60 watts 'may' damage the 'thru-hole' solder junctions?
      Aerospace often used the "Ungar Princess" irons for 'immediate' parts replacement and as I recall ~ they were only 27 watts or so.
