Breaking Benjamin has found this "formula," and they've stuck with it, and it never disappoints. Every album, in my opinion, is grade A all the way around.
can/will not dispute
Ben has said before in interviews that writing hit songs was easy for him... clearly he's right... dude's just GOT IT.
I agree besides that weird acoustic album they did rest are great
It always worked until the world of music changed around them. The last album disappointed me cause I wanted new. I wanted them to explore just a little. But it was the same thing as before. Still love em though
Yeah after their first album there hasn’t been a song by them i dislike. Some i like more than others but none i wont listen too.
Breaking Benjamin is one of my all time favorite bands. This is such a great song.
I dont know anything about playing music, so its absolutely wild to me that someone can hear maybe a minute of a song and then can immediately play it on an instrument. So cool!
Breaking Benjamin is the band I found as a kid that made me realize how much I wanted to make music. They’ve been consistently great and this is the song that started it all for me.
That's really awesome to hear
More Breaking Benjamin! One of the best bands from the early 2000's still going!
Except Ben is the only original band member left, cuz he sued everyone else due to copyright infringement lol. No shade to the new backing players, especially Shaun Foist, the drummer, who literally got picked up by Ben because of Shaun's UA-cam drum covers of Breaking Benjamin songs (still available for perusing!). That's legendary.
@@ClickToPreviewspreading misinformation I see
They are still very much a band still touring to this day! I hope you react more to their music. They definitely have a robust catalog. They recently released an acoustic album that’s fantastic.
Stick to the earlier stuff if you want to be impressed though. One of my favourite bands but post Dear Agony (great album) things got a bit too predictable and overproduced. Saturate though... One of the best albums of all time? Quite possibly
That rendition of "dear agony" hits you in feels
I love how you can just listen to the music and immediately pick up the notes on your keyboard.
Here's how they got their name; the singer's name is Benjamin, and when they were starting out they often had to borrow gear to be able to play shows. One time Benjamin borrowed a mic from a band they were opening for, the singer of that band specifically told him "Don't break it, I need this afterward!' which of course they managed to do. Immediately after finishing their show, before leaving the stage the singer who'd he borrowed the mic from got up on stage and basically went "They're you go folks, Breaking Benjamin just broke our mic, so now we can't play", and that's how they got their name. It also became a reference to his internal struggles, for the longest time they wouldn't do international tours due to his fear of flying.
What a story! I love those organic band name stories
And he still won't fly and the only reason they've played in Europe is he went over on a cruise ship.
Ben Burnley is his name. He’s amazing.
Breaking Benjamin’s GOAT song is Diary of Jane. Still puts me in a zone I can’t get with any other song. Beautiful.
Acoustic Diary of Jane is FANTASTIC!
Terrible song
It's all personally dependent.
Give Me A Sign is their best IMO.
Because the line of "I'll rise to fall again"
has meant a lot in my personal life.
You will rise and you will fall... An endless cycle to expect but never give up on.
Regardless, This band resonates life and real experiences and emotions. That is what makes them epic.
I worked on this song with the band in the studio… Thank You for the kind reaction... Cheers
Killer
I had no idea you hadn't done Breaking Benjamin, you should definitely do a deep dive on them!
Dude you started playing the song no problem, first draft. Bravo sir. I only have a year of piano experience under my belt. But even if it was 5 years, I think that would still impressed the hell out of me.
The intro is waaay better on album because they cut it short for video but omg the build up gets me psyched up every f'in time. You couldn't have picked a better BB song, but at same time I love so much of their stuff. Saw them in concert and was amaaaazing. Their dynamics as a band and how they arrange their songs are stellar.
To describe "So Cold". and their music in general in two words....darkly beautiful.
Yeah this is my fav song ever but this version for the music video always bummed me out a bit haha. I like the video and all that... maybe they had to cut out the fillers to make it shorter for tv.
@@JonSwinamer Yea probably just time constraints for video. One of my fave videos too.
Starset owes part of their success to Breaking Ben. BB took them out on tour when they were a baby band and introduced a lot of people to them. They have toured with them multiple times since and last year recorded a remake of a song together that Dustin (along with Jasen Rauch, who plays guitar in BB) wrote for his previous band, Downplay, Waiting On the Sky to Change. Breaking Benjamin is one of the post-grunge bands that has really stood the test of time. Definitely worthy of a 7-by.
They are very much worthy of a 6-by if it hasn't already been done before! So many amazing jams
I think it‘s worth to mention that the head singer, Benjamin Burnley, completely writes the songs himself. The lyrics, the acoustic, everything.
I love how you're so (easily) able to pick out the notes played to recreate it on the keyboard every single time! 😂 Your reactions are always awesome to watch.
Ty Jeff!
Dude's analytics and ear for this stuff is out of this world. Excellent work my friend!
BB is a pretty underrated band. I know they get a little airplay, but definitely not enough. Although I guess a lot of people don't listen to the radio anymore and just hook up to their own playlist.
Yep, they're still touring. Amazing live and someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they've had the same members now since their 2015 album Dark Before Dawn
Yeah
Increasingly rare these days
I still miss Chad Szeliga's drums from the earliest stuff. Dude is a drum phenom... He ended up playing drums for Zakk Wylde of all people.
I saw them live April of 2023 - absolutely great band to watch live. They've got such a great fan base
PLEASE do more Breaking Benjamin. This band was a huge part of my childhood. Suggestions: Firefly, Sooner or Later, Diary of Jane, Dear Agony.
...and Home, and homage to the Wizard of Oz.
My fav is the Halo 2 song Blow me away
Can't wait to see them live later this year with Dusturbed. One of the greatest gateway hard rock bands to exist!
i've dedicated my life to music, I will recognize almost any band you mention, and almost every song from this genre and any subgenre of rock/metal/grunge/alt, most pop culture, a looot of oldschool and modern hiphop. yet, Breaking Benjamin is the only band that I have consumed their entire discography, at an early age, and to this day i STILL listen to them on a daily basis, never missed a day, and it never once got old, I canno vouch enough for how incredible Benjamin Burnley is. in my eyes the most unique and well rounded and in his own world Artist.
They are consistently good at every album. Hard working dudes and dedicated to making best song possible.
One of my all time favorite bands since I was 10 years old (23 now) they are still very much touring today, I got to see them in 2018 still one of the best shows I’ve ever been too.
My middle school self is so excited this is a thing 😂🎉
7:26 what life all about 🤘
I grew up listening to BB since 2000. He had a legal dispute with the rest of his band mates . He basically fired everyone and hired all new musicians.
He chose people who still to this day sing, write, and co-write with him. So BB still keeps the same sound.
One of my favorite bands. I've seen them live 3 times!
Awesome reaction! I love this song so much. Never saw a reaction to it before. I dig it!
07:30 and that is exactly why Breaking Benjamin has helped me through the roughest years of my life. The lyrics are relatable whilst the tonality makes it a freeing experience when your head is full of dark thoughts. Almost like they grab you by your hand and lead you through the darkness. I can still listen to their songs, though they remind me of all the hardship I had gone through during my most active years with them. They are really specially and dear to my heart.
They are decendants from the heaven
Breaking Benjamin, been with me for the past 18 years, basis for my first Tattoo.. first concert I saw. Absolutely love them
Benjamin in this song is singing it from his toes. It is so emotional to listen to this song every time.
is so easy to get swept away by it, then you see them live and feel like you're gonna jump outta your skin lol
big throwback to my angsty high-school days
I just found your channel today and I'm impressed. I can tell by the way you easily handled that keyboard and were talking about minor and stuff related to music. It was a pleasant surprise to actually find a legit musician reaction to music.
"Tension and release. That's life, that's music... that's your heartbeat" And that's why you have to hold on when it seems that everything is fucked, because you will always find a release, even if you can't believe it now.
LETS GO! you hit so many of my favorite songs man lol big ups.
bro i sit here and watch 90s and early 2000 music videos, theyre the best
Breaking Benjamin is my favorite rock band!!! Please do more!
Lol
Love the power and intensity. Terriffic sound.
Great band. Early stuff. New stuff. All great!
Benjamin took a medical leave of some sort from touring and recording. The guitarist and bass player did something with their songs (I think they rereleased a couple of their songs with an added singer and somehow added some things). Benjamin ended up firing them, and getting a whole new group. The drummer, who played on the album with Diary of Jane, was Chad Szeliga. He left and joined a different group (Black Label Society maybe?) And Benjamin kept the name Breaking Benjamin.
Never got into this band despite hearing them since their first album, but I got to watch them while on the stage at Carolina Rebellion some years ago and they killed it. Really talented musicians and performers.
I hope you end up doing a deep dive of Breaking Benjamin. They're such an incredible band.
You said 19 years ago, and I freaking gasped.
WHAT?!? ARE WE THAT OLD NOW
I miss this sound by them. New albums are good but the early ones were 🔥
In my humble opinion this song vocally is the best ever for Breaking benjamin
I saw them in concert years ago along with disturbed, it was one of my favorite concerts I’ve been to
Enjoyed your breakdown.
You *actually* understand instrumentation.
Thanks!
Breaking Benjamin knew how to arrange music, their music is like alternative rock/Nu Metal version of classical music with the smart arrangements
Way over produced
@@jeremyjames1659 sorry I’m my opinion it was perfectly produced
When he said this song is 19 years old I felt so old. 😂
Breaking Benjamin have a plethora of absolute bangers.
Red Cold River next…. please?
Great band, great song. One of my absolute favorites!
So happy to see this band still getting attention. Loved this band since my teen years.
Give Me a Sign is probably my favorite of theirs.
Love the song a great pennsylvania band
Seen them live twice now. The last time just a month ago in Atlanta with Disturbed and Jinjer. All amazing bands
I grow up my teenage year when this song released..
Bring back lots of memories👍👍.
Lots of great bands around those era especially in alternative genre.
glad you finally did this song!
All this time, I don't think I ever noticed her stop to look at the red flower.
Man I love this band's early work. Very powerful sound. Also very timely, but always good.
They are still going! I just saw them live on April 29th and they were amazing! Ben’s son (he’s 9 maybe?) played guitar on stage with them.
Breaking Benjamin is absolutely incredible. It’s incredible that you’re keyed in.
Damn this band is so good
Great song, David!
Awesome
Ben ruled the early 2000s. He also did a lot with other bands and helped write songs. This is one of their masterpieces.
Sooner or later is another good song to check out next
Very happy that the Music Shed is still going on and you're persevering. Been watching you guys for years now (years!?!?) and I always appreciate your perspective, David. Shout out to Howie and all those behind the scenes! There are many of us who appreciate you and what you do!
Thank you!!! It’s been 3 years!!! Couldn’t do it without you
Asia- Time Will Tell
Yessss!
Oh dude you're good! You just figured out that rhythm halfway through the song!
“Snare-crack”is not like “but-crack”.
Very true.
lol, I never remember anything I say in these videos
@@MusicShed
Lol!
If you want another great band from the Wilkes Barre area, then listen to Another Day Dawns. They actually opened for Breaking Benjamin on their recent tour
I consider this song as their most instrumentally complex with the emotional depth to match:
It creates a dire tone, and the accompanying music video eludes to facing possible demise or death with lingering regrets. Trying to contain your emotions and an anxiety that constantly builds from the pressure of not knowing what awaits you.
Even the melodic composition eludes to this; the tempo and agression of the drums fluctuate throughout the song, like someone awaiting trial trying to contain their heart rate. It's pounding one moment, then calm the next, and the forboding, sinking feeling of despair as the one who's judging them watches them squirm and agonize over the whole process.
I guess it's no wonder one of their proceeding albums was titled "Dear Agony".
They did a track for Halo 2. Or Bungie used an instrumental of one of there songs. I don't remember.
Do more stuff like that, we need more Rick Beato's here
This guy’s cool in my book! Keep up the good reactions and content. 🤘🏽👍🏽
The band is still going on with Ben and new members since 2014. They have 6 main albums and an acoustic style album. I've seen them twice, they always put on a great show live and have been a consistently solid rock band over the last 20 or so years. Ben is a talented musician, vocalist and song writer. They have a good sound and they stick with it consistently.
For music videos, the 3 song series that started with "red cold river" are great...both songs and their videos
This was my teens :> wanna go back
Yes new members. Fantastic line up now, although Fink (guitar) and Szeliga (percussion) were amazeballs
Only time will tell!
Yessssssss!
Final countdown
I’ll be seeing them for the second time next month with Jinjer (my third time) and Disturbed headlining 🤘🏻
Been a fan of these guys for 20 years now.
The intro to this song is so good. Sountrack to my childhood, love to hear it.
Gets me jazzed every time
Nice review! I mentioned in one of the Chevelle vids that these guys deserve a 5 by. Keep it going! I love Breath and Give Me A Sign. Polyamorous was one of their early songs that got me into them.
My spotistats app has the listening count for "So Cold" at 2551 times so far 😅
Its my most repeated song of all time on Spotify
Simple Design is still my fave by them, was happy this album got them on the map though
Seeing them tomorrow
Yesssss!!!
Your song at the beginning was by Asia the name is " The Lie is Over"
"This is 19 years ago" - I didn't appreciate that. 😅
Definitely react to more Breaking Benjamin you’d love their tunes. I would kill to get their first 4 albums on vinyl.
Interesting fact for you: Benjamin Burnley was an alcoholic for the first 10ish years of the bands existence and one day got so drunk he was out cold for hours on the tour bus (I think it was something like a whole day). When he woke up from that he felt like his body was on fire. Still to this day and after visiting over 100 (I think that was the number) neurologists he still doesn’t know what’s wrong and he still feels that burning in his nerves. Their album “Dear Agony” has the album art of a brain scan which is Ben’s brain and it was the first album he wrote completely sober. Incredible story of perseverance and overcoming ones demons.
No MMS es mi banda favorita, ellos me introdujeron al la música de metal
Espero ya música de ellos
The music video is based on the story The Lottery about a small town that holds a lottery and who ever’s name gets picked is sacrificed for the good of of the community
Great song. This was the last song written on the album... everything else was essentially done and Ben just brought the lyrics in. This album came out a few months after passion of the christ and I always wondered if he watched that and wrote this as a conversation between Jesus and Simon (the guy helping him with his cross). Maybe not but thats where my head went with it because I had just watched it when it came out.
Since we got some breaking Benjamin, it’s time for some STARSET!
I love that your reactions really break down the song and get analytical! Keep it up. A new song to react to could be "Chemical Counterpart" by To Kill Achilles.
The video was remade a few years ago but yes song came out in 2004
