I don't see how you guys can go on about Nihilism right beneath a video where Lou Reed is saying: "Our music was rock, it had POWER. The message was visceral... it didn't sit there, it went out to you!" Go Lou! Go on with your tinted glasses and your leather jacket man. It's not often he says this much in an interview.
excellent and heroin isn't for or against heroin i love that about it it is very simple with "in your face" sort of lyrics that say how things are exaclty as Lou states near the end. At the time his lyrics were there as a statement almost and he showed many things exactly as they are
Second LR interview in two days I've heard that were meaty...Lou was himself and spoke intelligibly and from his heart. It was great to hear more than monosyllablistic garble. I enjoyed hearing him, even though I don't agree with some of it. I still like the guy!
Lou, Maureen and Doug, no John, are reuniting at the New York Public Library to discuss a new book about The Velvet Underground and art. It's sold out. And I got 3 tickets. Just wanted to brag because I can. I've been waiting for this for ages.
ich hab lou reed ca. 1974 das erste mal in einem zustand ,gehört , der ein leben gerichtet hat. jetzt staune ich wieviel material es von und über ihn zu hören gibt. coole dinge du da frei gibst, weiter so dank, und glückauf .
As great of a spokesman as a musician. A real man! And he is right about heroin, why the tabu, why the shame about it??? It's a medication. I take it sometimes, couldn't care less if it's legal or not. Has dowsides like all medications, but still be best relaxing substance on Earth and i'll keep using it for as long as i want!! Lou tells it like it is!
always thought that The VU was alot more darker and "real" during that era then The Doors, for all the talk ofThe Doors being dark, they were esentially a pop band that wrote one song bout incet and some 40 years later they still censor the word "fuck" out of the End, so how anti establishment could they really had been?
@deathbypowerglove no, cool. I have my own called 'muh muh my makita' [name the tune] The only reason he became the story was he lived it and that upset the normal 'don't talk about it' with the others that didn't flat out deny they used or other things, but they also didn't come out and say yeah, they did. I'm not putting him down for this, but he was more famous for other than music parts of his life, the few catchy tunes that made it on some radio, propelled him there to be the story.
Interviewer: What do you get from them when you shake them? Reed: Well, you usually get a reaction. Interviewer: Reed: You know, a reaCTION. Interviewer:
Such a mastery of words, Reed truly is one of the best rockers out there.
Lou Reed is my idol
Most sincere and earnest Lou Reed interview?
Probably
Lou just speaks poetry.
At his very best. He's usually prickly doing interviews. But he's far more articulated and interested in this one.
Love him.
Yes I also find it slightly epic when Venus in Furs begins to play.

Rocks last genius.
Nah
Brian • yeah.
danny hernandez. I’d say Michael Gira is rock’s current “last genius,” and that puts no shade on the artistry of Lou Reed.
Nope, John Cale was and is the musical genius
Lou defined New York.
Very intelligent interview; Lou seemed sober and alert. I enjoyed it.
