My god, this is the most accurate thing I've ever heard about him. I was going to say he plays like he is possessed by a crack addicted demon, but my lord, you hit it spot on.
I actually like this video more than the album version. Forgetting the words, and "landlord cos he's a sweetheart" is way better than "he was needing it" imo
That's exactly how I felt. There's a video of him explaining how and where he got his play style. Kimya Dawson was a huge influence. It's pretty fucking impressive.
me, a beginner guitarist: i need a new song to learn that’s pretty simple *checks out brave as a noun on Guitar Tabs* oh nice, only four pretty simple chords! i just need to watch a live version to figure out the strumming pattern :) sean: *does This^^^* me: *puts guitar back in its case*
It's actually very easy, it's literally four chords, three of them some of the easiest and the other just barely a bit more difficult. Go on Ultimate Guitar and use version 2 (my personal favourite) and you'll see you only need C, Am, G and F. It would be impossible to get the whole finger work down but just play it chord for chord and it's literally the easiest song ever.
... The fact that this dude could just stop mid song because he forgot his own lyrics, immediately remember it thanks to the audience, and then just continue to jam out feverishly immediately afterward like it was part of the act is goddamn inspiring!
I'd like to mention that apparently Herman Lee of Dragonforce completely forgot an entire song he wrote. Like forgot it existed. There's a youtube video of him listening to it without the slightest hint of recognition.
There's something about the way he chokes up when he sings "god damn I am glad that I survived" that really touches me, and having been through hell too I think I feel the exact same emotions as him when I hear it.
sean is such a fine fellow. at the last show i went to he spent the entirety of the opening acts out in the audience standing right next to me and my brother dancing along and when we noticed he was standing next to us he put a finger to his mouth and gave us the "shhh" face and we went right back to jamming to the openers lol. EDIT: my brother snatched the setlist and it was written on the back of a greasy taco bell bag and that's why i love AJJ
That's what he did at the shows I went to! He called out shitty people in the crowd, he thanked every fan for the merch they showed up with, he smiled and was fun while we got the opportunity to hold the door for the band as they entered - he really is the sweetest and the shows kick ass. I can't wait for the next album and tour.
Its a combo of fingernails and thumb - if you learn guitar without a pick and keep trying to play faster, you end up doing some stuff with your strumming hand that makes sense in your head but looks really intense to everyone else. Source: I play fast and don't use a pick.
people talking about how agile his fingers are, i'm more impressed by his agility while singing, that takes fucking skill. i think, i haven't tried it yet.
The chaotic burst of passion he plays with is just breathtaking. And it's so funny, that part at 1:44 where he forgets his own words feels almost like a light switch flipping off and then just flipping right back on. He's so extremely talented, and you really appreciate his music on a whole new level when you see him strumming on that guitar like his life depends on it.
as someone with Dyspraxia, the thought of trying to sing, strum and play frets at THAT speed makes me want to curl up into a ball and never touch my guitar again
i love how people can talk about kurt Cobain and van halen as the greatest guitar players and they are good but look at him this guy is insane and gets barley any credit for it the ammount of practice to play that is insane, and then to sing while playing over that is godlike sean bonnete you know what you're doing its a shame you aren't as popular as you should be
bobuild bacon I love both AJJ and Nirvana but I mean like, these are literally just basic open chords. It’s very well written but honestly they’re on the same level technicality wise. I do think he should be more popular though.
I’m so freaking glad to see how well he’s doing. I remember when I was first introduced to ajj’s music, he had just come out with Can’t Maintain and I instantly fell in love with his music. Unfortunately he fell wayside in my consciousness until recently I was reintroduced to him (by the same friend) and have been listening to him solely for the last week! Can’t wait to see his next album.
Sometimes you get to like an album before you know anything about the artist and when you see them perform it can be a sort of disappointment because you like them up too much. But this guy, he is what I would call for central casting if I wanted an AJJ.
Sean can yall come to hamilton ontario please? i think you did it once and man i hate that i was to broke at the time, the second time you came in my area you refunded my tickest and it destroyed me
Was tripping on acid and accidentally clicked this, but at 00:16. The face on the side lines up with Sean's face, and it freaked me the fuck out. That shit had to be on purpose.
Sean strums like there's a little goblin only he can see holding a gun to his head
John Candycorn small red boy is back and angry
My god, this is the most accurate thing I've ever heard about him. I was going to say he plays like he is possessed by a crack addicted demon, but my lord, you hit it spot on.
Blah Blah I feel like if anybody else tried to strum like Sean they’d sprain their wrist
Bony Danza anxiously
"Faster, Sean" he whispers. "You know this doesn't end with you"
*forgets and changes lyrics to his own song various times and actually manages to make it sound good*
Bob dylan did the same, it makes it more of an artform. Even him "forgetting" was a neat humanizing thing to do.
stephen malkmus does that all the time and he does it perfectly because his lyrics dont make sense in the first place lmao
Punk folk baby
I actually like this video more than the album version. Forgetting the words, and "landlord cos he's a sweetheart" is way better than "he was needing it" imo
Sam ur so right
you don't really appreciate the guitar work until you see him play
Toastality - plays like a crack addict
That's exactly how I felt. There's a video of him explaining how and where he got his play style. Kimya Dawson was a huge influence. It's pretty fucking impressive.
He a fucking madman on the guitar
Yeah they use the simplest chords yet the strumming patterns extremely confusing on paper.
Yes can see what you mean. My Goodness... :-)
*Plays guitar aggressively*
*forget lyrics in the middle of the song*
Come on strings, I dare you to break.
666TH LIKE YEAH
HOW DOES HE STRUM SO FAST?
me, a beginner guitarist: i need a new song to learn that’s pretty simple *checks out brave as a noun on Guitar Tabs* oh nice, only four pretty simple chords! i just need to watch a live version to figure out the strumming pattern :)
sean: *does This^^^*
me: *puts guitar back in its case*
😂
andrew??
His name is Sean :P
this is adorable lol
oh my goodness i meant sean idek where i got andrew from lmao
It sounds like hes constantly tearing up then realizing he cant have a breakdown constantly
i hope to play the guitar like a crack addict like sean one day
Sodium Fine lmfao
Same bro... same
🤣🤣🤣
yeah.. "like" a crack addict
i tried playing brave as a noun on guitar 3 months ago and i still haven't recovered
same. throat has never been the same
It’s not that hard?

goal is to get the sick strumming part otherwise there is no point in covering it like just play random chords it s the same lmao.
I learned a good couple of his songs but replicating his strumming while playing with a pick fucking hurts after lmao but it sounds pretty good
... The fact that this dude could just stop mid song because he forgot his own lyrics, immediately remember it thanks to the audience, and then just continue to jam out feverishly immediately afterward like it was part of the act is goddamn inspiring!
Live music, what the kids want!

honestly, forgetting the lyrics to your own song is a big mood

Sean single-handedly keeps guitar string manufactures in business
sean is such a fine fellow. at the last show i went to he spent the entirety of the opening acts out in the audience standing right next to me and my brother dancing along and when we noticed he was standing next to us he put a finger to his mouth and gave us the "shhh" face and we went right back to jamming to the openers lol. Tort تورت was he really as charming as he is in this vid??
That's what he did at the shows I went to! Hell yeah
OMG he's not using a pick?? How is his hand not gone. Like god damn.
I dont understand how he does it either
It looks like he’s playing using his nails
Its a combo of fingernails and thumb - if you learn guitar without a pick and keep trying to play faster, you end up doing some stuff with your strumming hand that makes sense in your head but looks really intense to everyone else. Source: I play fast and don't use a pick.

i think, i haven't tried it yet.
I’ve finally figured out why his songs sound so breathy, I would be tired too If I strummed like that
omg his struggle to remember the lyrics and the crowd helping him haha beautiful
With the amount of lyrics he has to remember I am zero surprised he spaced on one of them.
Shy Violet ua-cam.com/video/LTiWzNAQylM/v-deo.html
becuase he's a sweetheart
MaybeMisha I noticed this and now I sing it like this instead of the normal version
I saw a really old recording of him saying, dealer, instead of landlord. I sing it that way now.
he said he's a dick in one of the live versions lmao
for a second i thought i had accidentally changed the speed...
That flub at 1:45 was so clean and actually sounded pretty cool.
I love his pause in the middle of the song. Fucking awesome
one of the greatest guitar players alive
as someone with Dyspraxia, the thought of trying to sing, strum and play frets at THAT speed makes me want to curl up into a ball and never touch my guitar again
hello fellow dysraxic AJJ fan!
@@Alex-tl5fz 3rd one!
I'm also dyspraxic and it's really a case of sometimes I can totally get it or not. The guitar I could do, but anything else not really
definitely one of the greatest songs i have ever heard.
i love how people can talk about kurt Cobain and van halen as the greatest guitar players and they are good but look at him this guy is insane and gets barley any credit for it the ammount of practice to play that is insane, and then to sing while playing over that is godlike sean bonnete you know what you're doing its a shame you aren't as popular as you should be
he also can write very well which is rare and hes a nice guy hes just a great celebrity all around
Nobody really calls Kurt the best guitar player. We all know he just played some powercords but its good.
bobuild bacon I love both AJJ and Nirvana but I mean like, these are literally just basic open chords. It’s very well written but honestly they’re on the same level technicality wise. I do think he should be more popular though.
@@MrBrettB123 nah bro, music is music
@@MrBrettB123 different strokes, but i will admit the only song I really like by them is Love Buzz
This guy is basically musical dadism and I fucking love it.
im crying?
Depressed Socks fuck me too man
big mood
I’m not crying your not crying, are you?
Quite possibly
same though?
I love that even though his voice isn’t amazing in a traditional way, you feel for it
Playing both songs as if they were two parts of the same makes a lot sense
1:42 i love this fucking guy
that was me lol
Sean says that Kimya Dawson was the person to influence his unique strumming style
i remembered the lyrics of my songs
thats how i learned how to survive
Jesus fuck. I listen to ajj all the time on Spotify all the time but I never realized his cuticles were made of steel.
i’m not a huge ajj fan, but after seeing the man play *this* i’ve got respect for him
he looks exactly like he sounds, and I love that
i hear sean's fingertips are so rough and hard they scratch diamonds
I have never heard Sean sing the landlord part the same way. I like the one from the new live album "because he's a dick"
My dad has a picture of with the whole band, that’s how i discovered y’all. He was in a random bar on a work trip as they were performing.
Wow!
this is beautiful, he plays this shit like a banjo
He looks exactly as I thought he will look like when I first listened to his music
this song got very important to me over the last couple of years.
Just found this dude. He’s rad. Thank you very much!
Yell heah
This just shows how hard he worked to get the official album just right
I am so excited to get to see them play live in February.
With fingers that agile his wife must be one happy lady.
João de Arruda Campos Cardoso I don't think he is
Protip: if you look at someones left hand and there's a ring on the ringfinger they are most likely married :P
His hands are so fast it's hard to see the ring even on the other finger.
The left hand would be his fretting h and
OM JSNSNSSMS
Two of my favorite songs ever
"The one shitty thing about this fucking song it's that its too damn short. I want more". - some guy with a goatee
So freaking AWESOME live
You ever wondered what would happen if a squirrel drank monster?
Sean can transform standard C, Am, F, G chords into various aggressive masterpieces.
Gorgeous love
Remember when you played for no one in a tunnel at musicfest 8 years ago?
That guitar is legendary stuff
sean is my fav
wow YES! check out that guitar work! Magical spectacular wonderfulness!
I can't wait to see him live next year
the second song is called survival, OP. so this is brave as a noun and survival song.
I fucking love him. This song always come to me when I want to give up.
I'm,,, in love
Strums like his life depends on if
😂
This song is what Anxiety sounds like.
Holy shit this is making, thank you to the guy who wrote this.
If anxiety was a person
i'm loving that rattlesnake strum thing!
goddamn i tried to strum along to the video and couldnt keep up, let alone sing along or keep track of the chord progression aswell.
That’s raw as fuck holy shit
Lmao I've never seen anybody forget the lyrics to their own like that 🤣🤣🤣. I hope this man stays sober 🙏 lol
wtf the guitar is awesome
Fucking shreddin
What I wouldn’t give, to want to live like I once did.
Fave AJJ song.
Frenetic energy
I love this.
he really looks like he's playing for his dear life
Good God please play MRMF!!!!
Jesus his fingertips must be rock solid
Good lord that fingerstyle! No wonder girls love him
I relate to this comment section a little more than I should
I love it! 😅
Do a tour in the Yukon
Yeah, that seems about right.
Are his fingers okay though
Sometimes you get to like an album before you know anything about the artist and when you see them perform it can be a sort of disappointment because you like them up too much. But this guy, he is what I would call for central casting if I wanted an AJJ.
Love these songs. They are my life. Lol
brilliant
This is good.
MR TALENTED
Genius
My god look at him GO
He plays like the Fantastic Mr Fox Banjo Guy.
The first time I heard that song I thought it was from against me! 🙃
Fuck me that's fast! SHOW this to your metal friends.
💛💙💜💚❤💗!!!
Sean can yall come to hamilton ontario please? i think you did it once and man i hate that i was to broke at the time, the second time you came in my area you refunded my tickest and it destroyed me
anyone know the shape of how he plays the F chord?
Was tripping on acid and accidentally clicked this, but at 00:16. The face on the side lines up with Sean's face, and it freaked me the fuck out.
That shit had to be on purpose.
anyone know the strumming pattern?
d d *D* d u
For the most part. A few deviations like on the F chord in the chorus etc.
