When the words "Elegance" and "Grace" really meant something! GORGEOUS styles - the men and women alike!

And back then, men were men, that they weren't so obese, so illiterate such that they had to stockpile military-style weapons and open-carry, that men back then didn't suffer clinical paranoia. They had much more confidence in themselves and didn't have the need to be addicted to opioids/fentanyl to cope with their twisted personal realities. Back then, Trump would never have been nominated, let alone elected. Nowadays, he is a god to the filthy, illiterate America-hating whiskey soaked white trash.

Beautiful people. That generation is an inspiration. They were more alive, connected and grounded than we are today.

There is something powerfully nostalgic about watching these videos with the song Nice and Easy. I don't know what it is. I can't explain it but I sure do feel it.

Back in the day “Class” meant more than fine clothing, it was part of who you are. Today “Class” is non existent.

I agree, we as a whole, have reached the lowest common denominator. It’s sad.

Funny how contemporary the women in the first photo look - as they look as if they easily could have had this photo made in the early '80s. And with all of such photos, against the backdrop of the mesmerizing music, one gets the feeling noted in the classic Steve Miller Band lyric: "Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future."
    Into the future

I've always liked the pointed glasses. I still wear sunglasses 🕶 with a slight point. They just fit my face. 😎

Makes me sad in a way. All my aunts & uncles who were in their 20’s in the 50’s are long gone. No grandparents or great aunts & uncles. My mom is the only one of her family left. She’s buried 2 husbands & 2 children. Even among the cousins there are husbands gone. Just feel old

The most notable is that people were slender; whereas nowadays, there is an American epidemic of obesity, that people had to actually stand up to go to the TV to change channels! And people ate real food, that they actually ate really fresh, organic foods before anyone had thought of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Wives stayed home and cooked real meals, while the husband worked and prices were proportionate, such that he could buy a home, that there was low interest rates, and buy appliances, a car, and easily send the brats to college--a time before credit cards! But, the predatory global corporations put and end to that! Now, the corporations figured out how to force the husband and wife to both have to work to hopefully qualify for a mortgage. An obese population has been wonderful for the pharmaceutical and corporate hospitals and clinics! Yes, the '50s were great. When fathers did yardwork, such as my father, they wore casual slacks and shirts, that nowadays, would be dressing-up. Now, there are obese men who wear pajama bottoms to stores. And children are raised by cell phones and TikTok (thank you Xi Jinping for that!

Obesity existed: Sewing patterns of that era were issued in sizes and body types, including "chubbie" or "full figured." The foods were not so much better, either, as there has been a lot of legislation to remove additives that existed in food even back then. Also, remember people walked more and there were neighborhood businesses like delis or independent supermarkets. Layaway and store credit/time payment plan contracts were slowly replaced by credit cards, which allowed buyers to pay in full immediately. Globalism and global economies are more the fault of government regulation than corporate governance. Colleges are no longer affordable because kids are encouraged to apply for student loans before they graduate high school, and deferred student loan repayment schemes guarantee a built-in indebtedness to the government after a college degree is granted.

The girls always have a lot of change in their wardrobes over the years, men not so much!
You can't do much with a pair of pants and a shirt!

Widen the legs, add or delete cuffs, ha ha. Shirts are a change of collars, hemlines, and fabrics to make them formal or casual. 😊
