I was lucky enough to meet her at the autograph tent at a festival a few years ago. There was no one behind me in line, so I decided to go for the full on gush. I adore her and I told her so. Who knows if I'll ever get another chance?
Thank you Ruthie, thank you Sleepy John,Laura Hooper ,Sheri Austin and everyone else that helps make KPIG 107.5 the best damn radio station on the planet!
August 27, 2017 @ 859am - How did you not win that Grammy Angel? I have choir practice In a few minutes then the service than I'm heading to Austin to give you a hug. I was 'un-rep helmsman' Able seaman, watchstander, on the USNS Neosho TA)-143 for a full tour with the 6th fleet. I un-repped the USS JFK with one arm in a cast! That's a fact. Ask Capt. Ribobello who told the Capt. of the JFK..."don't worry Capt. he's my best helmsman with one arm..." I loved Capt. Rigobello.. I love you even more Ruthie. I so hope to see you sweetheart. I love you so much!!! Peace
The interviewer is lame (and that's being charitable---what a mediocre effort). But Ruthie projects value in any scene or context. So much consciousness, so deft, so real, bracingly graceful. I love her capacity to find and reveal truth, its hidden from easy view, isn't it?
Sleepy John is his name. KPIG's the station. He does the show every Sunday morning bringing in live talent like this. He is a bit lame but the station's amazing. Last of the great independents, DJ picks the music, screw the suits kind of stations. Also the first station in the nation to stream over the internet.
Dan Holmes Thanks for 'fleshing out' KPIG for me, Dan. Colorful call letters for a station with such obvious merit, I'll 'drop by' the station, and view more excerpts of its online presence here on UA-cam at least. I always enjoy independent visions, at least when the independence is predicated on recognizing the merits of those whom mainstream overlooks and potentially trivializes. There is a very good station in western Canada, its called CKUA. It has been an independent for almost 100 years, it has a really meaningful role in opening up the world of music [jazz, blues, folk, classical, roots (including Americana), world music, and many other forms] to listeners who've only really known formatted "suits-style" radio. They played a role in Ruthie Foster first appearing at a couple of big folk festivals in Alberta,. It sounds like people with good instincts have found a base at these independent terrific stations. Long may KPIG continue. Again, thank you sincerely, Mark.
He's a bit laboured, or was in this instance, in my view at least. And you're far too aggressive. I hope you don't talk like you have to too many people, it won't go well for you. I don't expect you to agree with or appreciate my previous comment. But I think you can see by what I've written previously that I don't think I'm the 'Second Coming', I'm just giving my opinion. I would presume you enjoy this interviewer, more power to you. I don't think he would want you to come to his defense in the manner you have. I'm confident he's more resilient than that. And practices more humour. I'm sure that's in you also. Cheers.
