Rare 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire. Beautiful Survivor Rescue. 65 Olds Starfire 425.

- In todays episode, the Garagefathers are honored to rescue this very rare 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire. It is a 60K mile, true survivor, and one bad machine to be sure. Come along as we look it over, and go for a ride! Full length.
My Dad brought home a brand new Oldsmobile Jet-Star-88 when I was around 12 years old, Circa 1966. It was the only new car he ever had.I remember it like it was yesterday, and I'm 70 years old. Sister automobile to the Jet Star. Bronze exterior, a real beauty. Unfortunately we drove it into Automobile Heaven. When I got my drivers license I drove it. It was so that fast it scared me. The cars of that time period did not handle all that well though, like today's cars. Still, I wish we had kept it.
I learned to drive on my parents 66 98 convert that had the Starfire engine it was a true Rocket with that engine options in the 98 model. full factory dual exhaust code rpo. N10. What a car!
Actually this IS my Father's Oldsmobile. He had 1965 Starfire. White like this one with a red interior. He also had the more classic 1963 Starfire too. Red with that silver stripe thing down the side.
That silver stripe thing down the side was stainless steel, which was unique to the Starfire. Yes the 61-64's were a bit more unique than the 65-66, but they were just as thrilling to drive. Starfire's were full sized 442's.

The Starfire's styling was so ahead of its time. Beautiful lines and huge power. Nice episode!
One of my high school cars was an identical looking (white exterior, blue leather interior) '65 Starfire coupe, with the 375 Hp, 425ci V8 engine. It warms my heart to see the one in this clip, (even though I lost my license with my Starfire, for... speeding, and had to miss my prom, as I was not about to be driven to my prom by my father! :D) Mine had been purchased new by one of my uncles, and I ended up with it in 1978. It was still in great condition, and certainly was relatively quick. My high school nickname? "The Bandit!" (As in "Smokey & the Bandit," a very popular Burt Reynolds movie back in the late 1970s.) By the way, mine had the GM Autronic eye (self-dimming) option, along with the reverb option for the radio, and wire-wheel hubcaps. I would love to own another one, but I'm getting on in years, and I am not sure if I will ever have the opportunity. On the other hand, if you good folks would like to do some creative dealing, I do have a very lovely 1999 Mercedes R129 SL500 roadster, (her name is "Claire,") with equally lovely Java interior (Nappa leather seats, etc.) She runs very smoothly, and is surprisingly quick, should the "urge" ever strike you. :D

'65 Starfire motors were rated @ 370hp....not 375. The final year Starfire 425 ('66) was the sole year for 375 hp. BTW, Chevy's 425/396 L78 in big Chevy's for '65, had this Olds beat. I once owned a '65 Starfire in this identical color/interior scheme. In 2 years, the CHP had this SAME drive train in their state fleet, though installed in Oldsmobile's Delmont88 425 Town Sedan series.
I just purchased a 1965 Starfire but in Ocean Mist with white interior. Loved the video, these cars have such pretty body lines.
Mine was the same color. I bought it for $75.00 in 1975. I was 18. Loved doing burnouts with it.

nice car and in great shape. I picked up. a 65 Jetstar 88 convertible that meeds lots of love, lots of body rust. I've been able to find all of the missing chrome and that took me 4 years. Hope to finish next year if time allows.

I actually bought a 65 Starfire in 1975 for $75.00. Running and driving. It had some minor bumps and bruises but overall a really cool car. I can tell you one thing for sure it would burn the right rear tire off of it. I eventually sold it to a friend of mine. At the time I was 18 years old. I guess the old saying of you don't know what you have until it's gone is so true.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My first car was a '66 Starfire, the last year of production. Except for slightly different front and back end treatments, and without the cool exhaust out the trim feature, the cars were identical. Great 425 engine - with six people in the car and driving carefully I could get 19 mpg on the highway. The only thing I would miss if I still had the car would be filling the 25 gallon gas tank.
That is amazing, considering they were a solid 8-9 mpg in city driving. I don’t think I could drive your car and get 19mpg.

Nice Starfire my buddy's got three of them the first 5001965 starfires came with chambered exhaust from the factory the rest will just regular mufflers my buddy has NOS chambered exhaust he'll never sell it he said he's going to restore one of those cars one day but we'll see thanks to the great video I love those cars they're cool

…extremely nice and original representing mcm GM Olds Divsion 1965 Olds Starfire …these mid 60’s era GM full sized luxosport coupes were / are the finest / most polished top shelf Made in Detroit for styling, engineering and drivability / durability. The Starfire’s were always more 1950’s American Futuramic in theme compared to the 1960’s Euro Gran Touring flavored Pontiac Grand Prix’ s and this 1965 Olds Starfire shows that American Futuramic theme with it’s stars + rockets badging bling, Rocket Cockpit interior dash and trim layouts and those Rocket Side Exhaust Ports and Rocket Ship themed taillights. This Olds Starfire has no wood grain veneer trim whether real or faux anywhere in the interior. Stainless or brushed metal trim only to complement all that 1960’s light blue GM top grade + grain vintage vinyl. 1966 was the last year for the Olds Starfires as the 1966 Olds Toronado then took it’s position in the Olds lineup and there no longer was a Olds / GM marketing need for a 1967 Olds Starfire. The 1961 Olds Starfires are a big all time fave of mine but 1965 Olds Starfires are held in equal regard for how they look inside and out. Having owned and enjoyed a 1967 Olds 98 triple black drop top with all the factory toys and bling it was a similar kind of big Olds driving and riding experience. There was still some Olds Starfire interior / exterior styling cues and fun to drive + ride in flame in those 1967 Olds 98’s but by 1969 and then in following years was no more. I had a 1966 Oldsmobile Starfire that I bought from the original owner back in the late '80s great car lots of flash nice powerful engine with a unique exhaust note and of course I wish I still had it but at least I did own one for 3 years and I enjoyed it very much put about 8,000 miles on it and spent I couldn't tell you how much money on gas and this was when gas was about a $1.50 a gallon
It’s like the daddy Oldsmobile to the f85 or Cutlass. The Oldsmobiles of the 60’s all had a very distinctive and unique sound when they started up. You could tell it was an Olds just by that sound. No other sound like it even from another GM vehicle of the same era.

Love it! But my memory of these was that despite the 375 hp rating, they were not much of a drag strip performer - somewhere high 15’s to a 16 flat second 1/4 mile.
It is a lot of car to move. That's for sure!
@@thegaragefathers496 Depending on the year 1964, 1965, 1966 and how it was equipped, I'm showing the Starfire weights between 4,300 to 4,500 lbs. The real heavyweights came in the mid 1970's when American luxury cars moved into the 5,400 lb. range. I feel that Oldsmobile over rated their horsepower to give their sales team some talking points. They were great reliable engines if you kept the rpm's below 5,000.
The first muscle car was the olds V-8 in 1949,and the the small aluminum blocks of the 1962 olds cutlass and buick special V-8’s and don’t count out pontiac’s half eight ❗️🇺🇸

You're off on the horsepower. The 65 Starfire was 370 hp. The 66 was 375, likely to the change from the Rochester 4GC to the Quadrajet.
We're are the original hubcabs and needs white wall tires that came with to be perfect

The 425 starfire motor was an option in the 65 olds 98. Also, the 65 olds jetstar 1 had the starfire motor. Basicly a poor mans starfire as it was less expensive with fewer options. If you wanted better handling in curves, replace original shocks with coil over aka load leveler shocks. Olds' perfomance cars were known as a gentlemans muscle car. slow for a muscle car compared to others, but what do you expect for a car that size?

The '65 Starfire 425 had 370hp. '66 & '67 Starfire 425s were the only 2 years rated @ 375. Though there was NO '67 Starfire model, nevertheless the highest-horse 425 in '67 was still referred to as a 'Starfire 425'....having 375 horsepower, in front of the final-year "switch pitch" T400 trans.
On my way walking to school here at Neutra Elementary on NAS Lemoore, I would admire 4 classics owned by teachers. One of which was a 64 starfire, red and white. That was some 35 yrs ago. Today I've got my eye on a 63 dynamic 88. Where are you guys located?

An update to a properly-matched Quadrajet carburetor would go visually unnoticed. So would Positraction, if it already doesen't have this option. Yours is way out of tune. When they run properly, they can really haul @$$.
I had an originally red with white interior '66 Starfire with Positraction and rear stabilizer bar. It was the best car I've ever had, before it got stolen by a Detroit junkyard, while it was stored in a garage where the residents moved out. The cops didn't go out of their way to locate it and the yard's owner wouldn't let me into the yard, while making it a point that I would see his revolver
In 65 you could get the jetstar one. Same car, less trim equals lower weight with a four speed 😳

Great video, but maybe remix it with less fuzzy power chords and more engine sounds. There's nothing sweeter than a big block Olds.
I have a Jetstar1,same colors. I would honestly say it is a little nicer and better shape. Your description of this automobile is dead on.
