Hitesh had heard Piyush Mishra sing this song 15 years back and it has stuck with him ever since. Written and composed by Piyush, this song is a letter from Javed who was separated from his lover Husna during the partition. Inspite of having left everything behind and eventually moving on, there is a looming sense of helplessness and grief in the song. Musically Hitesh has tried to recreate that era through interesting acoustic guitar arrangements blended with Indian percussions. In keeping with the upheaval experienced by the lovers, Hitesh also ends the song on a tumultuous high.

The meaning:
The song is about a person who has lived and seen the times of India-Pakistan being one
nation...times, when people shared a beautiful equation of warmth and oneness, in spite of its
religious diversity. He is telling Husna ( in this context, can mean either the "kind Allah" or his
mate across the border) about the longing and the painful wait he is going through, to feel what it
is to be on the other side.
He asks (with disheartened sarcasm) if the Partition has changed the course of sunrise and the
fall of the leaves in autumn on the other side...as it use to be the same before. He misses the
ballads of heer-ranjha's everlasting love, those melodies still haunt him. And the wise words of
Bulleh Shah (The Sufi Poet-Saint) still guide him. He asks whether all the faiths (Muslim, Hindu
and Sikh) still celebrate each other's festivals like Eid, Diwali, Holi and Lohri as their own, with
the same warmth and enthusiasm...as it was before the Great Divide. Those were the times of no
boundaries, no religious divide and no hatred....

My husband was from Pakistan. He passed away 15 years ago just after 15 months of marriage.Due to some difficult family issues I was not able to attend his funeral. He left me with a 40 days old baby at that time and endless loving memories. When I hear this song I feel like flying to Pakistan where he is buried and just lie on his grave till death overcomes me as well. The lyrics shatter my heart to fragment and crush my soul to pieces. Sometimes the pain is too much for my chest to contain and I feel I will just explode. But it never happens. I reassemble my weeping heart and soul and keep going with a smile.I wonder how many pain and sorrow are hidden behind a beautiful smile. I wonder how many tragedies people carry in their lifeline. I wonder what keep us going on and on.

We used to listen to this in the canal of Lahore early morning. He left me and now it never existed for him. Only the best people of both nations come here to listen this masterpiece. My grandparents from both mother and father side came to India during the Partition. My grandfather and my grandmother both were married in Pakistan but they were separated during partition. My grandfather searched for her and with great difficulty found her. What a turbulent the me that was. So, many people died. Yet he persisted and found her family. Then they settled in a village in Gurdaspur. They loved each other so much throughout their life. Nowadays, couples don't have any patience neither that much Love.

I come back to this song every few weeks. Like a balm it heals. It reminds me of larger pain and hurt that others live with now, and have lived with in the past. My kids have heard it with me earlier too. I introduced this to my son in law yesterday. As a Punjabi, he could also feel the emotions. I cried again. To me, it felt like I was passing on a part of my life. It was beautiful!

I have read so many comments of hatered between Indians and Pakistanis but for this compilation there are so many comments of mutual respect . Which makes me feel so good . Awesome Piyush Mishra .. might be one day we will forget the differences and love each other again .
I heard this song in 2012, I was in 4 standard, I loved it but couldn't understand the emotions involved and the depth of words. Now after so many years, I found it again and now I can actually feel the pain in this piece of art. The pain of separation and longing is so beautifully depicted in this masterpiece, it is enough to make you cry, even if you haven't gone through that pain.
Every time I hear this song, I feel pain of the people who lost everything because of partition.....

Though I was not the part of migration, actually born here quite later, but I heard the stories of "Hindustan" from my father who spent his childhood there before the partition. He used to tell me the stories of the people and places of Kheda, District Badayun UP and Delhi in such a way that I always felt myself there. He went back to India in 1960 just after his marriage. Once he told me that he cried a lot when he saw his childhood places.
I can understand the sorrow and the feelings of the people who left everything behind and started a new life in a new country and still their souls are at the birthplace.
Hats off to Mr. Mishra and his team. Kindly do us a favor, the music sound is very high and diminishing the singers voice.
I can feel the emotions bro. Good that you can understand. So many people in both the sides still feel the pain of partition. People have relatives and friends at the both sides of these borders. Wish we could travel both countries without restrictions.
@@ravin2363 This is a fact that the people from both countries indeed like each other. Eldest sister of my mother was left in Badayun, she has a big family there. And of course the close relatives from my father side are also there. My Khala visited 3-4 to India. She still shares her memories. I would suggest you to visit Pakistan and enjoy our hospitality, good places and delicious foods. I assure you that we Pakistani don't have any hatred towards our "Cousins" Indian brothers and sisters. I really want to visit India but I don't think that it would not be possible in presence of Mr. Modi. And one thing more, its good to chat with you. I am from Karachi, please pay my salam to the "Janam Bhoomi" of my parents.

Purely from a musical point of view. While Piyush ji may not be a trained singer (dont know, but doesnt seem like), whats astounding is that he hits the Re (Rishabh) note perfect every single time, e.g, in the beginning "do pargana mein pahunche ", where he sings pahunche at 0.33. And then he hits the perfect "Sa"- Shadaj at oh husna (1.24). Hats Off for the singer and the musicians for creating that Raga Marwa like reflective, contemplative vibe, just with these two notes..

I dont know what partition brought to both the nations,some religion fanatic and power hungry people just devided a whole beautiful nation in two parts,both the nations are not getting their dues and hate mongering is there in people's hearts,I wish we unite once again,we are the same,we were the same,partition was the most haunting tragedy ever happened in this world,everytime i listen to this one,i can feel what the people from both sides would have suffered,leaving the lands,leaving friends,houses,love and everything that matters to a man....really heart wrenching
