Nemophila was formed in 2019 by lead vocalist ,Mayu. She was looking for a backing band for a live session, so she called her former classmate, bassist Hariguchi-san. They found Tamu Murata, a highly in demand session drummer, guitarists Hazuki (ex-Disquala) and Saki (Mary's Blood). 7 string guitars and 5 string bass.
Named after a flower because they are all female. a Nemoph - i - l- a , no 2nd "i" ,is a 5 petal white and blue flower, native primarily to the western US.
"Dissension" is from their 1st album, Revive, in 2020. 3rd album, Evolve, was released earlier this year. A few months ago, guitarist Saki decided to leave the band, an amicable split. They are continuing as a 4 piece, with Mayu playing some guitar, and solos more of bass and guitar, as opposed to the 2 guitars style seen here.
Most of the harsh vocals are in English, cleans are a mix of English and Japanese. Most songs have a mix, a few all harsh, and some all clean. They did a lot of covers on their channel during lockdown, and a few since.
For more originals , try "Oiran" (official live) , "Raitei", "Adabana", and "Ame-te-ras".

Thank you!! Relatively new group then..but how great they are speaks volumes. To be completely honest, I was leaning towards "Oiran" as it's a Japanese word I'm familiar with...but I really wanted 0 familiarity with anything for my first listen...as you can tell by not only the low level pronunciation, but even the damn spelling!!

The music videos are always a good place to start your journey with any new band. You get to hear the studio version of the song the way the band originally envisioned it to sound. Then, you can revisit the same song by reacting to the live version and see how it has evolved. BAND-MAID, for example, are constantly re-engineering songs for concerts by adding new intros or putting full guitar & bass conversations in the middle of them. They'll even re-write whole songs for full on acoustic concerts.
As you are discovering, Japanese bands don't give a shit about "genre" expectations. You got a big taste of that with Hanabie. Whatever you think is going to happen, forget it. It's a big free-for-all in Japan. Bands pull from whatever genres feel right for the song, even if it's 4-5 different genres in the same song. And, as you can hear, they are pulling it off spectacularly.

Speaking of doing whatever they want, that's Nemophila in a nutshell. Just check out any of the plethora or covers they've done. As heavy as this one is, for these two guitarists Hazuki (to your left) and Saki (to your right) this song is a walk in the park. Check out Hazuki's other band, Koiai, "A New Picture" with phenom guitarist Li-sa-X (also the previous version of the band, Li-sa-X Band).
BTW, there's nothing in the water over there, it's simply education; music education is still a thing in Japan, they learn while young, have after-school clubs to join to learn and play and many go to actual music school if they're looking to be pro. Lot's of education and lots of hard practice.

They are observant Muslim women who faced a lot of backlash from their community. Their song God allow me please to play music is a really fone song lyrically and musically. They are excellent! Nemophila have a wide range of originals and covers. Their Japanese band covers (mostly done in lock down) are my favorites for finding more bands from that land past and present. They generally cover a band that they will tour with as well. Their western covers are great too. Their Pantera, Pink and Bon Jovi covers are probably their only average efforts. Everything else spot on. X-Japan, Rottengraffty, Maximum the Hormone covers are my favorites. Originals try some of their other early songs like Monsters, RAITEI (their 1st official music video) Sorai. Be aware that the early live footage clips have studio track because they initially had issues with getting the soundbite quality from live stream to UA-cam. Their later lives starting from 2021 dont have these issues. They really dont have a bad song. The bands theme song is a song called LIFE. make sure you have subtitles on because the lyrics are excellent.

Great reaction and welcome to Nemophila. They are top tier and one of the most popular bands out of Japan along with the others you have already seen. They are very diverse too. They have their own sound but play all types of metal and rock. They even have 4 ballads over 3 albums the last album coming out back in January. They are now a 4 piece since April but still touring and kicking ass and by hints they have been dropping recently their might be a new song and video on the way. Would be the first new original with just 4 of them if its true. So looking forward to that. I found this band back in early 2020 from watching BabyMetal same with LoveBites and BandMaid. All great bands I listen too but Nemophila has and still is my favorite. They have an amazing diverse catalog I am sure you are going to enjoy. Some suggestions would be Oiran Live. ( The most recent one from a year ago.) Oiran was their first original song and to this day is usually the show closer. Others would be Zen Live ,RAITEI,Revive,Adabana, Rise, Hypnosis,Style, Monsters. Some of their slower songs would be Life, Now I Here,Odyssey and Game Over. They also have done many covers too which they did in the beginning because they were on lockdown and the fanbase like it so much they have done many more off and on besides their originals. Of course their originals is where they really shine. But You did mentioned SOAD. Well they actually released a ep with 4 covers last year and they covered SOAD "Sugar." Very killer band they are. Cant wait to see more of your reactions to them in the future. Hope you enjoy them.

The soft fluffy band from hell. There's that juxtaposition :)
    Nemophila are fu**ing amazing.
Unfortunately one of the guitarists, Saki, left quite recently. So they are going on as a 4 piece for now.
Tamu, the drummer, is an amazingly good drummer, and is a dab hand at the keys and some brass as well.
I love Mayu's vocals. She has a very solid set of uncleans, and I ADORE her cleans. With just the uncleans there are some singers I prefer, but add the uncleans and cleans together and she ends up on top for me.
Hazuki can keep the guitar lead covered though, she is very good.
Haraguchi-san on bass is usually grinning along with Tamu the drummer. Haraguchi-san also has that classic funky infectious bassist specific head bob / head bang in a lot of the lives.
Speaking of System of A Down, as I likely mentioned in one of your other videos, Tamu the drummer of this band and Akane the drummer of Band-Maid were inspired in part by the drummer of Maximum The Hormone, and there is a reason I mention this in reference to System Of A Down ;)
Maximum The Hormone - Yoshu Fukushu mv
I think you are taking a good approach by doing 1 or 2 videos for each band and then checking the next. Gets all the bands on your radar quite quickly.
I second @Popskull-yl9gn on suggesting ama-te-ras. However I will say it is not live, it's studio audio over a life performance video. So if you want a real live go another song first like Revive, Oiran etc. But ama-te-ras is a god damned banger.
If you want to see Hazuki, Nemophila's remaining lead guitarsit, in another band you could check out
    Koiai - A New Picture

Nemophila were (and probably still are) top five. Saki left, and now they are four, but Hazuki is no slouch a she’s also super nice. It remains to be seen what the music looks like without Saki though.
When you get a bit further down the rabbit hole Saki will become more prominent- she’s been around a while and is as talented and skilled as she is beautiful.

    Screams
    Zen (Live) ua-cam.com/video/k1yPbBRHFms/v-deo.html
Most people start with Dissention (MV, Japanese ver.) or Revive (MV) and then Adabana (MV), Rise (MV), etc.
'Zen' (live), Oiran (live) and Dissention (MV) are some of their hardest and best songs
'Odyssey' is an incredible power ballad (80's style) and 'Live' is an emotional ballad-like song sung in the video as a 'welcome back' to Tamu (drummer) after her maternity leave. Great songs that show the softer side of Nemophila.
'Ama-Te-Ras' is a quite unique 'groovy metal' song and one of their best as well

Nemophila are one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and blew up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.”
They are a supergroup, currently composed of:
ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu (founded the band)
ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
    ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu (she is also in high demand for session work)
Until April 2024, they were a 5-piece band. The fifth member, and actually the band-leader until she left, was ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki, arguably one of the top metal guitarists in the world. It remains to be seen as of this writing what directions the band and Saki, respectively, will take.
Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood). Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a unique vocalist capable of both cleans and hell-raising screams.
Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” ua-cam.com/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/v-deo.html
The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and appearances at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an emotional moment captured on live stream: “Life” ua-cam.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/v-deo.html

They have toured the U.S. twice. I saw them live and they blew the roof off the place.

Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! If you would like to explore more and expand your channel, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. Seems you are familiar with them. I can give you more performances if you need them instead of these:
BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL)

    Nemo-phi-la. It’s flower 😊
The mix in this does not serve the best of Mayu’s voice. She is even much better live 👍
Nemophila started as a session band by Mayu( vocals). They started 2019 and learned how to be a band by making lots of covers( imo, some of those are better than originals).
Basist Haraguchi-sun is the youngest member.
Drummer Tamu is very respected drummer in Japan, She has been playin’ almost everyone in scene.
Guitarists here are Hazuki and Saki. Saki is allready kind of Legend in metal scene all over the world.
Major thing happened about three months ago when Saki decided to leave the band. There are speculation that maybe She just thought that her time as a mentor is done now after their allready legendary Budokan-show.
So then there was four..Four musketeers who decided to carry on as a four piece band AND they are doin’ fine. Hazuki is so good guitarist that She can hold her own.New material coming out later this year. They’ve been doin’ shows lately and all the reviews from the gigs are praising how good they sound and even more heavier..They have shows allready booked for the whole year and they are ready to conquer the whole world. Magical band, amazing musicians, humble humans.

Yes indeed... 花 Not something that sounds like a disease! BAD ERIC!! Thanks!
They have such a raw, yet refined sound which really embodies what I heard on this track. I'm gonna go broke with all the concerts I need to see now!!
