    Dont dry clothes indoors, if youcanavoid it. I look at the weather forecast before putting a wash. There are tent systems for drying indoors with dehumidifier. Its hard, as an adult I've lived in 3 properties, 2 had no problems. The other was bad, I'd dry my clothes in the porch with the front door open. But I was constantly managing it with opening windows.
    Check your windows, there may be trickle vents, make sure they're open. I didnt know about them till they were pointed out to me. You may need additional vents too. And short term, open windows, every day.
    You can add in a mechanical vented system if youre still having problems. But its a more expensive option. But if you think you're going to live in house long term, might be worth it.

    Useful tip.. I bought a dehumidifier so I can dry clothes in doors. You can set a timer and if you buy one with a specific filter it can function as an air purifier if you want by attracting dust particles to the filter and thus freshening up the house. I’m using it right now in my small spare room (helps if the rooms isn’t carpeted I found). Remember to clean the water catcher every so often with bleach though. Dont let water from washed wet clothes linger. I dump mine down the toilet immediately once the clothes are dry and rinse it out. Also open your windows frequently even if it’s just for an hour a day

      Thank you ☺️ yeah, later into the video I did end up showing the one I bought and I’ve been really happy with it so far, I wish I would have thought of it sooner. Lol but glad I have it now!

    HI Steph, open your windows for even 30 minutes a day, drying clothes indoors is the cause of the problem. Check the weather forecast as often as you can. It was a windy day yesterday and I got a line of clothes about 80 per cent dry. I dried them on the clothes horse later and no problem with dampness. Why not look into getting a pergola built? I am getting one this weekend. It will be located on my patio in back garden. It will have a clear roof so I will not loose out on daylight. A 10ft x 10ft costs roughly 1,000 Euro. I have been waiting for years and at last I can have one. I will be able to dry clothes outside and my two cats can stay dry when they pop outside for a run around. Lovely to see you and great to hear happy kids playing in the background.

      yeah im disappointed I didn't realise it sooner lol but I'm glad I know now, bc I've been able to really get the condensation under control mostly ☺️

    Try the €1.50 bead dehumidifier from Dealz or Tesco. Worked for me in a room that constantly had black mould in the window.
    If you use Cilit Bang black mould remover first (approximately €4.50) that will remove it.

      thank you! Yeah I might pick some more of those up! I had them at one point, but just figured a dehumidifier that I can plug-in and empty and don’t have to replace would be worthwhile but those are nice for certain spaces as well! Handy that they’re so affordable and they definitely work ☺️

    Hi steph do you have a wall extractor fan you can switch on in the room where your dryer is that will definitely help with the condensation, or if its the dryer with the long hose you need to make sure you pop the hose completely out of the window bcos if it blows inside then the damp steam from the dryer will only be going back into the atmosphere inside the house hope this helps 👌

    Hi Steph I've being using a dehumidifier for drying clothes for years and it works great. Just use it in a small room preferably a bathroom with an extractor fan on and keep the door closed and you should have a dry clothes horse of clothes in about 6or 7 hours . Re the mildew it's the warm moist air settling on a cold spot near windows that usually causes it probably caused by the clothes drying the water has to go somewhere the dehumidifier should help best of luck

      @mcginnsteph  10 місяців тому

      thank you ☺️ yeah we’ve had less condensation for sure (although, sometimes it would randomly vary even before the dehumidifier) maybe that was because on days we did laundry there would end up being more, either way I can already notice that the dehumidifier was a great purchase!

    My parents got air vents put in all their windows and that solved their problem with condendation completely. I must ask how much they paid. My own house is an older one and my windows are permanently wet and the window sills are rotting. We do have mold upstairs too. We cannot afford to do too much at the moment.

      Oh no! Sorry to hear that 😕 I wish there was a way for people to get assistance or something. It does get expensive 😑 even having a damp specialist to come and assess is pricey 🫠

    Mildew and mold seem to be a big challenge there - inside and even outside. I've seen so many pictures on Daft and in UA-cam videos of homes with large black areas on interior walls and the stucco exteriors. Good luck fixing the issue! For whatever reason, I didn't have the problem when I lived there. Maybe where I lived was TOO ventilated? I know it is a huge challenge there. Where I live now in a desert city, at least I never have THAT problem!

      That’s true, that’s a bonus to your area 🤣 …. I’m such a worrier (if you haven’t guessed by now 😆) so I tend to want to get to the bottom of things lol, if i can. And plus of course I’ve somehow stumbled across TikTok videos of people getting mold sickness’s etc. (my fav UA-camr recently discovered she had black mold bc she was having all these symptoms for a while) well anyway, hopefully it’s not too serious and we’ll get it sorted lol

      @@mcginnsteph Lots of things floating around in the air can make a person sick. Ever since I moved into my current condo in one of the few green neighborhoods in Phoenix, I would wake up sick in the morning (post nasal drip, fluid in lungs, congestion). It would go away during the day. I decided to have my ducts cleaned after four years, and I am much better now in the morning.
      You have radiators, though, so I don't know.
      You and I are both worriers. I'd rather worry too much than not enough! LOL! Worry can be good!
      At least you know, though, that whatever it is, it is common in Ireland and people have apparently been dealing with it forever. I think houses used to be leakier, there. I spent my year in Cork in a building built in 1889 (I think) and it leaked like a sieve - but there was no mold. The place was always cold, too LOL. Ah, those were the days!

    I guess I do a lot of laundry too. The rule is that if someone wore it outside the home, it goes in the wash 😬 my anxiety is less that way even tho it's more work.

    I just got my bathrooms done in December. Good luck with yours. Also, what was your verdict on the dehumidifier? Did it help with your condensation?

    • @mcginnsteph
      @mcginnsteph  10 місяців тому

      Hey there; the issue is in our bathrooms as well and even a little bit of condensation in the living room; I’m silly I should have gave an update on condensation after getting the dehumidifier too 😆 but yes it’s been helpful I’m pretty sure! We’ve noticed a good bit less, almost none the past week (sometimes it would vary as it was though, even before the dehumidifier, sometimes there’d be days with none and then days with a good bit) but I’d say the dehumidifier is helping decrease the condensation at least a little

    • @marikatiernan1856

      Delighted the dehumidifier worked so well for you. Excellent purchase so. In your rented house they may have had a mechanical fan in their bathrooms if there was no window? This is a legal requirement. ( when renting out a property). If your bathrooms have a window there is no legal requirement to have a mechanical fan. Maybe that’s what you heard? It’s normal to get condensation on bathroom windows but it should clear if you open the windows after you finish showering. Some people notice a massive difference if they leave the en suite door open but I’d suggest you open your bedroom windows if you do this as you are transferring the steam to your bedroom rather than keeping it in your en-suite. Condensation on a bedroom window is normal also but again it should clear if you ventilate the room. You may notice increased condensation on your windows in the winter. Particularly on the side of your house not on “the sunny side”. This is because the room is warmer than the cold window. When the heat from the room hits the cold glass, condensation is seen. On the rooms that have the sun on in the morning, there will be no condensation as the glass is heated by the sun and the glass is not cold. It’s a balancing act! Good luck.

      @@marikatiernan1856 thank you ☺️ I’m starting to get the hang of things 🤣 and Gary has always said, it’s definitely relatively normal but I just worried it was bordering on the side of being too much. (Especially bc of the mildew/mold like build up and hearing stories of mold making people sick {I’m a worrier 😆}) But I think I’ve got a good handle on it now, feeling better 🙂

      Also worth trying the dehumidifier with beads from Dealz or Tesco (about €1.50).
      Worked for one of my bedrooms that constantly had damp and black mould around the windows.
      First cleaned with Cilit Bang black mould remover (about €4.50) then place the bead dehumidifier in or near the window.
      An electric dehumidifier will help dry the clothes quicker of course, but the cheap beads pot is handy for rooms where you’re not drying clothes.

    I meant to ask also, do you have the condensation issue in your bathrooms or just your kitchen and bedroom?
