I work in a prison, and I was thinking the same thing. Shiv is the noun, and shank is primarily a verb, although I have heard shank used as a noun as well.

Shank is a noun and a verb, shiv is just a noun. Link just got them backwards when he was reading.
You can shank someone with a shank, and you can shank someone with a shiv, but you’d never shiv someone with anything. Unless “shiv me” was being used as shorthand for “pass me the shiv”, the same way “beer me” means “pass me the beer”.

This translates into more dangerous and actually deadly weapons with the same characteristics. The toothbrush approach is just going to get you more time.

My favorite treat (especially when I was pregnant) is slushied capri suns. As a lactose intolerant individual, a delish beverage to help keeping cold

Caprisun is sooo good as a slush to me!! I tried it like a month ago and it’s so yummy. The texture gets like perfectly thin sheets.
for the frappuccinos at sbux, we use a sugar syrup base that makes everything bind together but there's really no special machinery its just a vitamix blender

I’m pretty sure a shiv is edged and can be used to stab, cut, and slice, while a shank is pointed and only effective as a stabbing implement.

Law enforcement officer with experience in jails and prisons, here. I've always understood a shiv to be a slicing weapon. For example, a razorblade affixed to a handle of some sort which isn't ideal for stabbing, but slicing.
Whereas I've known a shank as a stabbing weapon, like a sharpened toothbrush or a piece of metal with a point to it. Hope that provides clarification!

A shank is just a pointed weapon for stabbing, a shiv is serrated for stabbing whilst cutting, in one single action.
they are both types of homemade knives. A shiv, though, is usually made from something already sharp, like it can be a razor blade attached to the handle of a toothbrush. A shank, however, would be the end of a toothbrush handle meticulously filed down to a sharp point
So if you like Pepto frozen you need to try Birch Beer. It has flavors close to Pepto.

A hot dog IS a sandwich. Not the actual hot dog but slice one up cooked of course and put it on bread with condiments. I've eaten many of them this way.

Shank definitely is used as a verb. It could be bs, but I remember when gank first came into use hearing that it was a portmanteau of gang shank. That and, way before that (in the early 2000's) my friends and I would regularly say things like "I'm gonna shank you!"
